Just Abolish The FCC
Investor´s Business Daily, by Editorial

Original Article

Bureaucracy: The FCC jumped the shark with its outrageous plan to police America´s newsrooms. This grasp for a new mission signals an agency that has outlived its purpose. We have a better idea: Just scrap the FCC. There´s nothing worse than a federal agency that has lost its original mission, has nothing productive to do and, as a result, is restlessly rustling around for something to justify its existence. That describes the Federal Communications Commission, an old-line agency founded in the 1930s to regulate a limited supply of television airwaves divided among three networks, which is now gone with the wind. Today, television

Indeed, but don´t forget to take the EPA, the IRS, and the NEA with you.

The Fairness Doctrine, like Dracula, comes back every few years with their byzantine "Hush Rush" campaign, usually under the radar. We beat it back at least once, we can do it again.

Sorry for that blank post. Hit the wrong key.

I must disagree with the premise of the article. The FCC is needed for more than just broadcast television.

Since the electromagnetic spectrum is a limited resource usage of that resource needs to be regulated to prevent users i.e., the public, public safety, broadcasters, aircraft and business, etc. from interfering with each other when using the airwaves.

Since radio, television, and data transmissions cross, not only state lines but also international boundaries, regulation of the this limited resource fall to the federal government.

What the FCC needs to do is stick to to regulating the technical aspects of putting signals on the air and preventing interference between users.

Remember the base closures and the panels who decided?
Let´s do the same with every government agency. Look at them all, and dump at least half of them.

Hit them with a 25% manpower reduction every tie they attack the first amendment. When they finally settle down to doing their job, we will then know the correct size of the agency.

Spectrum regulation was the intent of the FCC in the 30´s but like all bureaucracies they become bloated and subject to the power of the purse. They could do their intended job with a small fraction of the current (and politically charged) staff.

Why even have an elected congress when enough agencies could run the country by daily edicts?

Let´s just go back to their original charters and lock them down to that. All these creeping powers they´ve gained over the years are totally un-Constitutional. The FCC now makes massive amounts of money from selling frequencies to communication companies. They long ago relinquisged their role in policing the airwaves for unsuitable material. Heck now watch afternoon soap operas for filth and degeneracy that was unheard of in the 1950´s.

Abolishment of the FCC or FAA is probably not possible, nor is it desirable, but it IS advisable to force them beck to their original charters under penalty of imprisonment. In all fairness, the FAA has not strayed much from theirs, but their overseer the NTSB has.

They will do so under the guise of increasing broadcasts aimed at women and minorities.

KANO, Nigeria – A child bride forced into marriage in Nigeria killed a groom and three of his friends with a poisoned meal, police said Thursday. Fourteen-year-old Wasila Umaru was married last week to 35-year-old Umaru Sani, according to assistant superintendent Musa Magaji Majia. Over the weekend, the groom invited a dozen friends to celebrate at his Ungwar Yansoro village, about 60 miles from the northern city of Kano. The teenager told police she bought rat poison at a village market and used it to prepare a dish of rice. "The suspect confessed to committing the crime and said she did it because she

Big Government: As students flood Twitter with images of inedible slop, it´s clear that Michelle Obama´s government school lunch revamp is a costly failure. It´s time to get the feds out of kids´ lunch boxes. Intolerance: The left hounded a CEO from his job over a 2008 donation in favor of a California measure opposing gay marriage. So much for free speech and job performance. This is a descent into mob tyranny and mediocrity. The dirty work of the left was achieved after Brendan Eich, recently appointed CEO of Mozilla, a software company based in Silicon Valley, was forced out of the company he helped found, all to feed the maw of political correctness. Eich´s "crime" had nothing to do with his job performance, let alone the inclusive work atmosphere he fostered at Mozilla.

Those killings, however, are only a fragment of the total harm caused by the misuse of firearms. Each year, more than 30,000 people die in the United States in firearm-related incidents. Many of those deaths involve handguns. The adoption of rules that will lessen the number of those incidents should be a matter of primary concern to both federal and state legislators.
