LOS ANGELES – Paramount Studios has poured an estimated $125 million into the production of “Noah,” casting big names like Emma Watson and Russell Crowe, and trusting their baby to Oscar-nominated director Darren Aronofsky. But six weeks ahead of its theatrical release, concern is brewing that the flick may not be popular with Christians at the box office. Faith Driven Consumer – a movement connecting Christian consumers with companies compatible with a biblical worldview – issued the results of an online survey, first published in Variety, that indicated a whopping 98 percent of faith-driven consumers are “unsatisfied with (the) Bible-themed

I just can´t wrap my brain around Russell Crowe as Noah. Does he get into drunken brawls in the movie?

From reading this article, it appears that this is another advertisement for the so-called ´Green´ movement. We´re abusing Gaia, and Mother Nature is punishing us. No thank you. Don´t see this. Make them eat their costs!!

To be fair, OP, Crowe might be the perfect guy for the part. After the flood, Noah was seen fall down, naked drunk in his tent.

They showed this movie to three different test groups, one Christian, one Jewish, and one general public. All three hated it. It´s going to be a disaster of Biblical proportions. (Sorry, couldn´t resist the horrible pun.)

OP, from what I´ve read, yes, Noah is a bitter drunk in the movie.

I really try to stay away from the entertainment industry´s takes on Christianity. They will, out of habit I think, cast it in as negative a light as they can - usually.

The films usually show the Christian figure as an intolerant hateful figure full of anger and vengence. Even on History, H2, Military, I can´t watch any of the shows about bible secrets, Jesus, the Saints, etc without laughing at the intentional mis-interpertations of the Bible.

And they wonder why we avoid the movies???

Once again, Hollywood acts against its self-interest. If they had just followed the Biblical account, church groups would have lined up to see the movie (and would have promoted it as well). I have to break it to liberals who claim to be be religious, but the Bible really doesn´t say anything about the environment. If anything, it goes against the environmentalists by saying, be fruitful and multiply. The Old Testament is concerned with man´s sin and God´s retribution, not a popular subject among liberal Christians and Jews.

Easy question to answer, isn´t it? Let´s see. Would Muslims object if Hollywood did a movie twisting IN ANY WAY sacred beliefs of THEIRS? Muslims would burn the studio down. I see Christians reacting more aggressively than we used to when entertainment venues insult the Word of God and that´s good. "Son of God" will be a hit and money-maker. "Noah" will bomb. The trailer is so in impressive, dark, ugly and Russell Crowe? Really??

Others can´t afford to upgrade to new PCs. How much of a risk are they running?

The surge in the popularity of inexpensive but cutting-edge smartphones is more than just another marketplace success story. It is one with profound social implications, particularly among low-income Black and Hispanic consumers who have long been on the losing end of the digital divide. If there has been any recent development that has helped to bridge that divide in communities like my own here in Harlem, it has been the advent of low-priced smartphones. Indeed, studies have shown that Black and Hispanics access the Internet on a cellphone, tablets or other mobile handheld devices at demonstrably higher rates than whites.

On the eve of the Netanyahu visit to Washington, President Obama gave a lengthy interview to Jeffrey Goldberg that shows a chief executive who has learned next to nothing about the world in his five years in office. First, kudos to Goldberg: he pressed Obama repeatedly, challenging vague formulations and seeking clarity. Goldberg pushed Obama hard, especially on Iran and Syria. Obama isn’t good off the cuff, especially when challenged; he is far better with a prepared speech. And what emerged is an awful portrait of the president and his conception of the world.

Although the Civil Rights Act, the landmark legislation which just reached its 50th anniversary, made great strides in desegregating the economy, economic discrimination is still widespread, and anti-discrimination legislation alone can never rectify the economic damage inflicted upon blacks by slavery and our Jim Crow apartheid regime. The Civil Rights Act was a mild reform, all things considered, but one conservatives fought with vigor and one many conservatives are still bitter about to this day. When the Civil Rights Act passed in 1964, the primary purpose was to root out discrimination in public accommodations (like hotels and movie theaters)
