Attacking Diversity of Thought
Tribune Media Services, by Jonah Goldberg

Cancel the philosophy courses, people. Oh, and we’re going to be shuttering the political science, religion, and pre-law departments too. We’ll keep some of the English and history folks on for a while longer, but they should probably keep their résumés handy. Because, you see, they are of no use anymore. We have the answers to the big questions, so why keep pretending there’s anything left to discuss? At least that’s where Erin Ching, a student at Swarthmore College, seems to be coming down. Her school invited a famous left-wing Princeton professor, Cornel West, and a famous right-wing Princeton professor, Robert

I read the Harvard Crimson editorial Jonah mentions the other day and it is horrifying. Truly totalitarian.

Oxymoron "Progressive diversity" is in reality only for race and sexual orientation (heterosexuals being optional?). The socialist (closed)mindset seeks the "collective" which demands total and complete enforced conformity(180 from diversity)! True diversity and individual ideas of thought and conscience are to be crushed! These examples of "tolerant" leftists...being more evidence of their totalitarian and tyrannical ideology, intolerant of any ideas but those they proscribe!

Ms. Ching and Ms. Korn (I too read the appalling Crimson editorial) are simply saying out loud--very loudly--what colleges have been promoting all along. They truly believe that conservatives and conservative ideas--along with any scientific facts that happen to challenge leftist dogma--are not just wrong, but evil and pernicious.

Actually, some leftists will agree (privately) that AGW is a fiction, but to admit that publicly would be to impede a socialist agenda.

In the online-only "Overtime" portion of his HBO show Real Time, host Bill Maher weighed in on the Mozilla controversy, and did not react in a way that you would think. Maher seemed to disagree with gay rights activists for targeting Mozilla CEO Brendan Eich because of a 2008 donation to support a ballot initiative that would ban same-sex marriage in California. "Well, and he gave it when President Obama was still against gay marriage. So, I don´t think it´s very fair," Carrie Sheffield of Forbes said. "Good point," Maher responded. David Letterman, 67, announced on Thursday that he’ll be retiring sometime next year. But it’s been an interesting, if raw and painful decade for the chat show host leading up to his decision, particularly after he did something that Johnny Carson never did on air: he dropped the mask and revealed his misanthropic inner self to the world. (Snip) So it’s ironic — particularly given that irony was how he built his career — that David Letterman’s luster was permanently scraped away on October 27th 2006, with just one question from a very different television interviewer who happened to be

With waves of American college graduates about to hit the job market, it’s a good bet most of them don’t think of the controversial conservative author, Charles Murray, as their mentor. The W. H. Is it too farfetched to connect the dots between a brilliant Wall Street Journal op-ed by Charles Koch, the chairman and CEO of Koch Industries, and the continued sluggish recovery in jobs, business investment, and the overall economy? I don’t think so. In his piece, Mr. Koch seems to make a plea for a big dose of free-market capitalism. He argues, “The central belief and fatal conceit of the current administration is that you are incapable of running your own life, but those in power are capable of running it for you. Over the last two weeks, New York Magazine’s Jonathan Chait and The Atlantic’s Ta-Nehisi Coates, two of the internet’s most admired liberal journalists, have engaged in an extended back-and-forth about the legitimacy of public critiques of cultural dysfunction in poor, inner-city African-American culture — and particularly the kind of critiques offered by President Obama, who often speaks exhortatively about personal and parental responsibility in addresses to black audiences. My impression (drawn from Twitter) is that many readers following the debate felt that Coates essentially won it with his most recent entry, a rich brief for the proposition that even (or

Numbers from a RAND Corporation study that has been kept under wraps suggest that barely 858,000 previously uninsured Americans – nowhere near 7.1 million – have paid for new policies and joined the ranks of the insured by Monday night.
