Solar panels and snow falling
from buildings send Morris
County officials scrambling

Star-Ledger [Newark, NJ], by Ben Horowitz

Morris County — Snow, ice and even some solar panels falling from public buildings in Morris County this week have forced officials to scramble to make new arrangements. The rain and freezing rain experienced on Tuesday caused a “weight shifting” on some of the solar canopies at the county’s Mennen Arena in Morris Township, resulting in a number of solar panels falling, said County Administrator John Bonanni. While no one was hurt, one vehicle was damaged, Bonanni said. Parking under the solar canopies at Mennen has been suspended until the solar contractor is able to remove all the snow and ice,

Obviously the building department was bribed and convinced these green solar panels did not "need" engineering plans, calcs and details, and that they could be slapped up there with no worries or cares in the world. Since a competent engineer would have considered these additional rain and snow loads in their design solution, it appears that something went unchecked in the process. I suggest a forensic engineering firm be sent in by the insurance company that carries the policy for the county against such disasters and discover who they can sue for their damages.

Ah, gee, so sad. Guess nobody thought to plan for the eventuality of a snow or ice storm coming through and covering up those solar panels. Kinda like when you have a Dish satellite for your cable delivery, and it snows, or rains really hard. For some reason, reception is disrupted ´cause the dish gets covered in snow or hard rain. Go figure.

Once again green-supporting politics overrides common sense and We The People are the losers.

A massive solar panel installation in my home town - - came crashing down last week. Fortunately - - no one was around in the blizzard to get killed or maimed.

The replacement, maintenance, and hauling costs will be enormous. I wonder if the leftist schemers and wackos will factor these massive costs into the per-kilowatt-hour cost of the electricity these boondoggles generate.

No - - actually - - I don´t wonder. Because they won´t.

They didn´t need to consider snow anymore. After all, the great climate scientist and scion of the Kennedy family declared that within 10 years children would never know snow due to gorebull warming.

That also made solar panels in the Northeast a "common sense" solution to produce energy while shading the asphalt parking lot and preventing heat radiation. A win-win-win for the anthropomorphic gorebull warming crowd.

I kept expecting the article to mention what these facilities are doing for electricity since these solar panels are obviously not producing any power. Ah, but reality bites.

How´s that "green" energy working out for ya?

On the polar opposite side...solar panels in the huge deserts in Nevada, Las Vegas are frying the wild life to death due to the heat radiation from the mirror panels.

Liberals and stupidity defies logic & common sense. As a kid, ever use a piece of glass to light a leaf or stick on fire...duh!

Regarding the "are they worth the cost?" conjecture someone posted, I once sat down and calculated how many panels would be needed to run an air conditioner suitable for a house the size of ours, the logic being that the solar energy would most likely be maximal exactly when it was needed for that purpose. Well, when I factored in the amount of sun at our latitude, panel efficiency, BTU´s needed, and costs, it turned out that the panels would not generate enough electricity over their lifetime - which is shorter than most people realize - to pay for themselves.

Fredon — The U.S. Supreme Court will decide on Friday whether it will hear a Sussex County man’s challenge to New Jersey’s handgun carry laws. The lawsuit, brought by John Drake, challenges the “justifiable need” requirement the state asks for carrying a handgun. It has drawn the support of the National Rifle Association and 19 other states, who see the case as a possible watershed moment for reevaluating how the Second Amendment and state regulations interact. The nation’s highest court now has scheduled a conference for Friday morning on whether to decide to hear the case in its entirety, according

Several elements of his comments were misleading: (1) At first blush, the 35 percent stat is both significant and impressive. As recently as last month, the share of "young invincibles" signing up for plans was struggling in the 25 percent range, far short of the actuarial target of nearly 40 percent.
