Palin-endorsed candidate Katrina Pierson
was arrested for shoplifting in ’97

Daily Caller, by Matt K. Lewis

Sarah Palin has made an endorsement in Texas. She’s backing tea party leader Katrina Pierson over Rep. Pete Sessions. In a Facebook post, Palin notes that Pierson’s “life’s story is full of hardships she has fought to overcome, which taught her firsthand the importance of self-reliance, hard work, and the blessings of liberty.” One of those hardships includes a 1997 arrest for shoplifting. As the Dallas Morning News reported on Valentine’s Day, “In 1997, five days before her 21st birthday, Katrina Pierson, then named Katrina Lanette Shaddix, was arrested on a charge of theft of greater than $50 and less than $500.” Pierson,

Holders trying to get hardcore felons the right to vote back but Palin´s a hypocrite of some sort I guess because someone had a petty shoplifting arrest.

Look at how many chances the pervert mel Reynolds has gotten even being pardoned by Clinton for statutory rape.

I am very sympathetic to the Tea Party, have actually contributed $ to some branches, but this idea that 1000% pure Partiers should be endorsed at the expense of 85% pure candidates, cutting off the nose to spite the face, is craziness. We need to WIN the Senate if we are to do anything at all about Obamacare and the economy! And the Ted Cruz´s of this world, who want all or nothing, will once again cause Republicans to pull defeat out of the jaws of victory in 2014. It is time that the Partiers start thinking about the Country rather than their own TOTAL ideology.

Amen, #7. Apparently, Pete Sessions´ constituents consider him to be a good fit for his district. Pitching him out "just because" is probably not going to be the choice of District 32 voters.

Yep, #7 & 8 are right... Nominating McCain and Romney was the right thing to do, in order for republican to win elections... After all, those nasty TEA Party people only want a smaller, less intrusive government and everyone knows that won´t work if we want to win elections. Well, except for 2010, but that doesn´t count; that was 4 long years ago.

I thought the whole point of mounting a challenge to an incumbent is to make an improvement in the conduct and service of the office.

#9, how is Pierson an improvement? Just being a newer face ought not to be sufficient. Surely there are other reasons to consider her.

I am voting for Pierson because Pete been-in-Washington-too-long Sessions has been SHOPLIFTING OUR FEDERAL DEBT. The guy has run up the national debt at least $10 TRILLION since he´s been in office ´fighting for hard working Americans´. How come he has not had a Town Hall meeting in his district in years? He thinks there are enough dopes in his district that will re-elect him if he just doesn´t give them reasons to vote against him.

Goodbye Pete - I did not elect you to destroy our nation and tell me you, as part of the majority of the House, that controls the creation of the budget - can´t figure out a way to NOT spend a TRILLION $ a year we don´t have. Just pass a balanced budget, then adjourn. If you and your ´leader´ John Boehner can´t do that, get out of the way and we´l send someone else to the Beltway to do ti.

I just gave you TWO deal killers when you only need one!

And with this story we kill two potential candidates with one shoplifting CHARGE, that has no mention of a conviction. That means there was none. But that isn´t the point. This is a hit piece on Palin. Her picture is in the article and her name comes first in the text.

Real good find there OP.

The improvement would be that the candidate is not a big-spending Republican. Ot at least a Republican who is ineffectual in curbing big spending Dems.

And Pierson outed herself - I give her credit for that.

I do agree that we shouldn´t vote for change just for the sake of change. Nor should we vote for incumbents simply because they have the (dead) weight of the Establishment Elites on their side.

I wish the lady well.

I´ve got no dog in this particular hunt, but there is more to the shoplifting story than is recounted in Matt Lewis´s piece. This is from the Dallas Morning News on February 14, 2014:

She and the other woman were accused of trying to lift nine pieces of women’s clothing from a J.C. Penney store in Plano. They stuffed the clothes into shoe boxes in a clumsy, failed heist.

According to a Plano police report, Pierson said she and the woman with her, Laura Elizabeth Nelson, told police they needed the clothes for jobs they were trying to obtain.

Pierson told police she was “scared at first and did not want to go through with it.”

Pierson exited the store with four items of clothing in a shoe box inside her shopping bag. They were valued at $168. The report said Pierson had her young son with her when the incident occurred.

She was booked into the Plano City Jail. She eventually pleaded no contest to the charges and received deferred adjudication.

ARRESTED for shoplifting. Was she convicted? I have read about people, famous people, who claim to have been rhodes scholars (clinton attended the school on a rhodes scholarship, but never attained the degree)or attended harvard (for one class, flunked out, but could honestly put on their resume, they attended harvard). I just wonder if Pierson was convicted of shoplifting.

I´ve seen Katrina Pierson on television and she appears to be a smart politically conservative woman. Is she not to be forgiven for this one infraction in her life, while the president who has been a heavy drug user in the past , hid his college records, his radical past and is as well an uber liar in the present gets re-elected. Lets face it, the Republican establishment types and the Democrats are doing their best to dig up needles in the haystacks against challenger candidates, while doing nothing to rid us of the failed Obamacare, the vast debts and deficits still accruing or the crorporate cronyism that is sacking this country.

# 26 - Sounds like all the Palin bashing/now KATRINA bashing need to be a bit more INFORMED before they comment.

Sessions #26 is a member of the HOUSE, not Senate.

Sounds like Katrina Pierson, herself, brought the information forward and did not wait for someone else or the competition to get the "gottcha" on her past.

Has Sessions represented his constituents is a much larger question and some of the comments following the article seem to indicate he is lacking in that regard. If he is not doing a job to satisfy his constituents it´s time for a replacement.

IMHO, there is a huge difference between discussing legitimate disagreements within the GOP and attacking anyone who has a different opinion. On the eve of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003, Gen. His reason for robbing the bank is surprising, though: He was homesick for prison. But even for those enrollees paying premiums, having health insurance is not the same thing as getting good health care, or any health care. On Saturday, I wrote about the standoff at Bundy Ranch. That post drew a remarkable amount of traffic, even though, as I wrote then, I had not quite decided what to make of the story. Since then, I have continued to study the facts and have drawn some conclusions. Here they are. First, it must be admitted that legally, Bundy doesn’t have a leg to stand on. The Bureau of Land Management has been charging him grazing fees since the early 1990s, which he has refused to pay. Further, BLM has issued orders limiting the area on which Bundy’s cows can

Like him or hate him, there is no disputing that Rush Limbaugh’s very special brand of mixing right-wing politics with his flare for entertainment has produced one of the most successful radio programs in the medium’s long history. Whatever the burning political question of the day, millions of Americans have relished the opportunity to tune into Rush’s program, knowing that he would quickly take that hot potato, throw a few gallons of verbal kerosene into the mix and elevate the matter into a five alarm fire with a just a few well-chosen words spoken in the style only Rush Limbaugh could

Less than a minute into his speech at the Boston marathon bombing memorial on Tuesday, Vice President Joe Biden went tragically off script and told the crowd of Boston bombing survivors that "it was worth it." After expressing how impressed he was with the tribute, he said somberly, "let me say to those ´quote survivors,´ my God, you have survived and you have soared. It was worth it. I mean this sincerely - just to hear each of you speak. You´re truly, truly inspiring." The audience sat in stunned silence until Biden declared, "I´ve never heard anything so beautiful than

Casual marijuana use may come with some not-so-casual side effects. For the first time ever, researchers at Northwestern University have analyzed the relationship between casual use of marijuana and brain changes – and found that young adults who used cannabis just once or twice a week showed significant abnormalities in two important brain structures. The study’s findings, to be published Wednesday in the Journal of Neuroscience, are similar to those of past research linking chronic, long-term marijuana use with mental illness and changes in brain development. Dr. Hans Breiter, co-senior study author, said he was inspired to look at the effects of casual

Look, everyone loves Sean Connery, particularly Sean Connery. That’s why he plays Sean Connery in every movie he’s in. People love that Scottish brogue so much, they don’t mind that he has it when he plays Juan Sánchez Villa-Lobos Ramírez, an immortal Spaniard in Highlander. The guy even won an Oscar for playing an Irish cop with a Scottish accent. Talk about sexist double standards: Meryl Streep has to master foreign dialects to get her golden statuettes. Connery just has to show up on time. In economics you devalue a currency by printing too much of it. In film you

Toddlers show racial bias when picking playmates, a study reveals. They also take account of how fairly others behave. Researchers tested the reaction of white 15-month-olds as toys were distributed. Two white adults divided the toys, one equally and the other unequally. Seventy per cent of the toddlers chose to play with the researcher who distributed the toys fairly. But in a second test, when one researcher favoured a white recipient over an Asian one, they picked the ‘fair’ researcher less often, the journal Frontiers in Psychology reports. And the babies are more likely to help those who share the same ethnicity, which is known as

Hank Aaron’s recent comments about the need for America to realize that racism is still very much alive and thriving — only now due to those who wear “neckties and starched shirts” rather than KKK hoods — has sparked an angry backlash and many fans are turning the tables, calling the baseball legend himself a racist. “Hank Aaron is a s*****g piece of [expletive] [racial slur],” one man said in an email to the Atlanta Braves’ front office, one of the teams Mr. Aaron used to play for, CBS News reported. “My old man instilled in my mind from a

Western Washington University sent a questionnaire to students asking them for advice on how the administration could succeed at making sure that in future years, “we are not as white as we are today.” The question notes that WWU’s racial make up does not perfectly reflect the nation at large, and asks students to consider strategies that other universities have used to focus on skin color as the paramount indicator of a student-applicant’s worth. The president of WWU has stated that his explicit goal is to reduce the white population on campus, according to Campus Reform. “I’ve said before and I’ll say it

How do you ensure that you won’t be ostracized, denounced, or fired if you are a media celebrity, captain of industry, or high public official? For some, sexist banter is certainly no problem. Stand-up comedian Bill Maher called Sarah Palin a c–t and a tw-t, but suffered no ill consequences. David Letterman joked on air that Sarah Palin’s 14-year-old daughter had had sex with Alex Rodriguez during a New York Yankees game. There was no downside to that either. President Obama tosses around “sweetie” as he wishes. No problem with that. No one believes Barack could be condescending to women.

When President Obama needed a preacher to fulfill the closing prayer duties at the annual White House Easter Prayer Breakfast, he turned to none other than the Episcopal Church’s first openly gay bishop — who said he was as shocked as anyone at the appointment. The Right Rev. Gene Robinson said in a tweet, accompanied by a photo of Mr. Obama behind a podium at the event: “POTUS ‘preaches’ at the Easter prayer breakfast. Then, out of the blue, asks ME to close with prayer. OMG!” Newsmax said he also emphasized that the words he chose to close the breakfast

WASHINGTON — Former President Jimmy Carter joined fellow Nobel laureates Wednesday in opposing Keystone XL, insisting that approving the pipeline would trigger “more climate upheaval” around the globe. In an open letter to President Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry, Carter and the nine other Nobel Peace Prize winners bluntly warned the leaders: “Your decision on the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline will define your climate legacy.” The missive, published as an advertisement in Politico, represents the first time Carter has taken a position on the $5.4 billion project and makes him the first former president to come
