Esplanade Avenue attacks on
cyclists involving baseball

Times-Picayune [New Orleans, LA], by Juliet Linderman

Original Article

Posted By:Ribicon, 2/19/2014 7:34:25 PM

After news that two men in New Orleans were badly beaten with baseball bats while riding their bicycles, 67-year-old Treme resident Sher Stewart set out to buy a new helmet Tuesday (Feb. 18). The one she´d been using for years to bike the streets of New Orleans no longer felt adequate after such a brutal bout of violence against cyclists unfolded on Esplanade Avenue, just a stone´s throw from her home. "I heard about this on the news. This makes me feel vulnerable," she said of the attacks. Stewart, who has lived on Esplanade Avenue for four years, relies

Comments:
It´s tough to shake the rose-colored glasses off a liberal. Black guys (irresponsible liberal newspaper won´t identify them as such) are jumping out and smacking bike riders in the head with baseball bats.

One rider suffered a broken jaw, the other a fractured skull. Happened early Friday morning, police didn´t bother to report the attacks until Monday evening; wouldn´t want to scare away the tourists.

Response by locals? "Buy a better bike helmet."

It´s all part of the agenda---make the citizens feel unsafe---force them to cower and demand more government protection- until at last, you have them all tucked up, safe and sound, - the entire state becomes one huge, gray prison.

Baltimore — An evening bike ride for a cyclist turned violent after he was attacked by a group of teenagers–and it’s caught on camera. Rochelle Ritchie has more. The man was wearing a helmet with one additional feature his attackers did not know about–a camera positioned on top. Now that video is in the hands of Baltimore City Police, who are combing through the images. Four days after a downgraded credit rating, New Jersey has more bad financial news: Tax collections were once again short of Governor Christie’s already lowered expectations. This time, the gap was $145 million for March – a full 7 percent short of what Christie projected for the month, according to data released Monday by the state Department of Treasury. That means the Christie administration has to make up that gap with just three months left in the state’s fiscal year, time that includes the crucial income tax collection month of April. Already, the administration has said it cut nearly $700

For nearly two decades, Barbara Garnaus maintained a modest, delicate life balance: keeping her part-time Orange County school district job and juggling her bills and credit card debt. Now 63, living alone, she counts every dollar, has no cellphone and commutes an hour in traffic so she can keep an affordable apartment in Laguna Woods. Having good health helped. Garnaus got by without medical insurance, relying on yearly exams at a free clinic. But that changed last year: Garnaus now needs treatment for cancer, and she bought insurance under Obamacare. Being naked in front of a classroom is something most of us will only ever experience in our worst nightmares. Yet here I am about to embark on a Naked Yoga class with people who have paid good money to bare it all in a room full of strangers. In a dimly lit studio in south-west London, we undress in the shadows before practising a couple of hours of meditative yoga in silence with eyes mercifully closed, before we slink back into our clothes and leave without uttering a word. A big element of naked yoga, I´m told, is getting

Named after the late Admiral Elmo “Bud” Zumwalt, the warship sports advanced technology and a stealthy shape designed to minimise its visibility on enemy radar and reduce the size of its crew. Among the 15,000-tonne destroyer´s cutting-edge features are a composite deckhouse with hidden radar and sensors and an angular shape that officials say will allow it to be confused for a small fishing boat on radars. Britain hiked its aid spending by more than any other country in Europe last year, figures show. Foreign aid soared by 28 per cent last year, meaning the UK hit its target of spending 0.7 per cent of GDP on overseas development. It left Britain with the second most generous aid budget in the world, outstripped only by the United States, and it came as a series of developed nations cut back on their aid spending. The figures will reignite concerns among Tory MPs that the aid budget is ill-directed and has ballooned at the expense of other Whitehall departments.

Although the Civil Rights Act, the landmark legislation which just reached its 50th anniversary, made great strides in desegregating the economy, economic discrimination is still widespread, and anti-discrimination legislation alone can never rectify the economic damage inflicted upon blacks by slavery and our Jim Crow apartheid regime. The Civil Rights Act was a mild reform, all things considered, but one conservatives fought with vigor and one many conservatives are still bitter about to this day. When the Civil Rights Act passed in 1964, the primary purpose was to root out discrimination in public accommodations (like hotels and movie theaters)

A Russian fighter jet made multiple, close-range passes near an American warship in the Black Sea for more than 90 minutes Saturday amid escalating tensions in the region, a U.S. military official said Monday. In the first public account of the incident, the official said the Russian Fencer flew within 1,000 yards of the USS Donald Cook, a Navy destroyer, at about 500 feet above sea level. Ship commanders considered the actions provocative and inconsistent with international agreements, prompting the ship to issue several radio queries and warnings.
