Students unhappy about
U-M´s racial climate

Associated Press, by Staff

Original Article

University of Michigan students plan to hold an all-night protest over what they say is low minority enrollment and inclusion on campus. The 12-hour "Speak Out" event is scheduled to begin Tuesday night and run through Wednesday morning. It´s being hosted by the United Coalition for Racial Justice, a group comprised of undergraduate and graduate students, faculty and staff. The Ann Arbor News says the event is an extension of a campaign started this year by the Black Student Union, which has criticized the university´s low black enrollment and demanded a series of changes on campus.

Comments:
Seems the race-based admissions systems that throw deserving white people to the back of the line, the grade inflation, and targeted grants and scholarships aren´t enough to satisfy the Black Student Union. Representatives for the White Student Union were unavailable for comment, as they were studying hard, bracing against the Affirmative Action roadblocks they will face upon entering the workforce.

Shouldn´t the Black Students Union, the Black Graduate Students Organization, the Black Faculty Association, the Black Administrators Union and the Black Alumni Association, to name just a few of the racial separatist groups that occupy U-M be chanting "No injustice, No peace" at their demonstrations and lock outs?

I am not sure what diversity they are missing? I am in Ann Arbor frequently... There are many cultures represented.. Asian, Indian, Hispanic, African American.. Etc... My son attends there and he feels very very average academically. It is hard work to get in to U of M and stay there... So shut up and get to the library ..

A new review is questioning the effectiveness of two key drugs enlisted in the fight against influenza and in turn the investments by governments to stockpile the drugs in the event of a global flu outbreak. The antiviral drugs Tamiflu (oseltamivir) and Relenza (zanamivir ) are commonly used to treat influenza in healthy adults and children. In the case of Tamiflu, the drug does shorten symptoms of influenza by about half a day - as the manufacturer suggests - but there is insufficient evidence to support claims that it reduces hospital admissions or serious complications, such as confirmed pneumonia or

Solar power has won the global argument. Photovoltaic energy is already so cheap that it competes with oil, diesel and liquefied natural gas in much of Asia without subsidies. Roughly 29pc of electricity capacity added in America last year came from solar, rising to 100pc even in Massachusetts and Vermont.[Snip] The technology is improving so fast--helped by the US military--that it has achieved a virtous circle.
