Tea Party challengers fizzle in Texas
The Hill [DC], by Cameron Joseph

Nearly two years after Ted Cruz´s come-from-behind primary victory, Tea Party challengers are fizzling in Texas. Defeating the former Senate and House GOP campaign committee heads would be a top trophy for conservative insurgents. But with just over two weeks until Election Day, Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) and Rep. Pete Sessions (R-Texas) are both heavy favorites against their primary opponents. Texas Republicans laugh that gadfly Rep. Steve Stockman´s (R-Texas) challenge to Cornyn has been a comedy of errors. Tea Party leader Katrina Pierson (R) has failed to gain any real traction against Sessions as she’s struggled with fundraising and name recognition. Both veteran

Sounds like incumbents are getting a little cocky with their confidence in winning. It´s not over until the fat lady sings.

Ralph Hall is older than dirt, but his constituents keep sending him back. I would be voting for a younger, fresher person in that district if I were there.

Right now, the go-to Senator in our primary is Dwayne Stovall.

I think many of these opinion writers are wishful thinkers. I also think they are confusing Stockman with Stovall although these two could not be more different. Stovall would be a good replacement for Cornyn. Stockman would be a good replacement for dog catcher.

Stoval is only one of 7 and all they need to do is to keep Cornyn below 50% on the first ballot. Stoval could very well do like Cruz and win out of the runoff.

It finally dawned on me that Cornyn´s conservative record comes after the cloture has made the Republican vote meaningless. When there is still a chance to trim the budget he is a squish.

This is more evidence that 501(c)4 Tea Parties are limited in their ability to get this done. A formal political party that can vet and narrow the field of challengers and provide a coherent narrative is a much more reliable vehicle. This is in addition to the control that the party elites have over the primary process.

"Pride goeth before a fall"

Tea Partiers are of the "Flash Mob" mentality. You never know from whence they come, nor what they´ll do. That´s why career politicians and RINOs like Cornyn hate them so much.

Following Mike Rogers’ announcement that he won’t be seeking re-election as chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, colleagues were shocked—but also eager to fill his big shoes. So far, three members have emerged as top con-tenders. Three Republican lawmakers are emerging as leading candidates to replace Rep. Mike Rogers as chairman of the powerful House Intelligence Committee, after Rogers announced Friday that he would not be seeking re-election to Congress. While Rogers has said he will continue to serve out his term until the current session of Congress ends, the race to become his successor has already begun. In interviews with GOP House

Trenton, New Jersey -- He´s baaaaack. The defiant and combative Chris Christie that reporters knew from the past returned in full spring bloom on Friday, now that a report he commissioned cleared him of wrongdoing in the George Washington Bridge lane closure controversy. A few minutes into his first news conference in more than two months, New Jersey´s Republican governor flashed his famous cantankerousness at suggestions he was hiding something about the apparently politically motivated traffic jams last September in Fort Lee. "Colorful," he interjected as one journalist asked an extended question. "Can you get to it already?" Later, he cut off a reporter

DETROIT-- General Motors announced two more recalls late Friday, bringing to 4.8 million the number of cars, trucks and SUVs the automaker has called back for repairs in the past month. The string of recalls, topped by an ignition switch problem in compact cars now linked to 13 crash deaths, has embarrassed the company and sidetracked its new CEO, who started work just over two months ago. GM has admitted knowing about the switch problem a decade ago, yet it didn´t recall any cars until February. As part of its plan to reduce U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, the Obama administration is targeting the dairy industry to reduce methane emissions in their operations. This comes despite falling methane emission levels across the economy since 1990. The White House has proposed cutting methane emissions from the dairy industry by 25 percent by 2020. Although U.S. agriculture only accounts for about 9 percent of the country’s greenhouse gas emissions, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, it makes up a sizeable portion of methane emissions — which is a very potent greenhouse gas. Some of these methane emissions come from

The Justices were hearing oral arguments in Sebelius v. Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc., a case hyped by the Democratic Party as a test for women’s rights. Justices Kagan, Ginsberg, and Sotomayor sprang on Hobby Lobby’s attorney , interrupting his every sentence and pummeling him with questions taken right out of the Democratic Party’s “war on women” playbook. Incidentally, Maraniss was telling the truth: Ann´s "days in Seattle" weren´t mentioned in Dreams from my Father and were only vaguely implied in Maraniss´s lengthy 2008 article.
