Over the years it has defied the world´s best golfers - and even presidents - time and time again. But now, after being badly damaged in a winter storm, Augusta National´s famous Eisenhower Tree has been felled. Augusta´s golf club confirmed the loblolly pine, affectionately named after it infuriated former member and U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower, will not be seen at the next Masters competition in two months. The tree sat about 210 yards off the left of the 17th fairway and was the only part of the course which was damaged in the recent storms that have ravaged

That was a great tree!!! Sorry to see it leave the Augusta conversation... I´m confident they´ll plant another huge tree there to forever commemorate that spot!!!

If Augusta had any brains, they would immediately invite Da Won to play there this coming weekend. After he stopped the oceans from rising, reanimating a dead tree should be child´s play for him.

With all the money CBS pays Augusta National for the telecast rights, I expect a replacement tree will be in place before practice rounds are played.

PS - is the cause glogal warming or the admission of female members? /s

Off the point, maybe, but seeing the pictures of General Eisenhower sure brought waves of melancholy over how much we have lost since his day. The loss of the tree is nothing.

Mother’s Day is coming early to the White House this year, at least where Obamacare sign-up is concerned. Open enrollment ends March 31, and President Barack Obama, first lady Michelle Obama and top administration officials all have events this week that aim to reach America’s moms, who typically drive health care decisions for their families — including the young adult children who are a key demographic for the new insurance exchanges. “Moms have a huge influence on their kids and families and are a key demographic for the ongoing effort to make sure Americans know the benefits they can access through

BEIJING — Forty ships and more than 20 airplanes were searching for a missing Malaysia Airlines jet Sunday but by nightfall had not found any wreckage, Malaysian authorities said. Meanwhile, Interpol confirmed that two stolen passports—one Italian, one Austrian—used by passengers on the plane had been entered into the agency’s database following their thefts in Thailand in 2012 and 2013. However, the agency said no checks of those passport numbers were made by any country between the time they were entered into Interpol’s database and the time that Flight MH370 departed Kuala Lumpur early Saturday. “Whilst it is too soon

What’s been said of confession — that it is good for one’s soul but bad for one’s reputation — can also be true of testifying to Congress, so Lois Lerner has chosen to stay silent. Hers, however, is an eloquent silence. The most intrusive and potentially most punitive federal agency has been politicized; the IRS has become an appendage of Barack Obama’s party. Furthermore, congruent with exhortations from some congressional Democrats, it is intensifying its efforts to suffocate groups critical of progressives, by delaying what once was the swift, routine granting of tax-exempt status. One of the most seismic changes in American politics over the last decade has been the emergence of a sharp generational split among the electorate. The Democratic Party owes its success in the last two presidential elections almost entirely to overwhelming support among the very young, which has overcome continued conservatism among older voters. The Pew Research Institute has dominated the field of exploring the ideological cleavages among different generations. And its latest survey shows again how the liberalism of the youngest voting cohort, millennials, remains firm, and likely to continue to recast the electorate. A few charts from the survey

The most dangerous parts of a flight are takeoff and landing. Rarely do incidents happen when a plane is cruising seven miles above the earth. So the disappearance of a Malaysia Airlines jet well into its flight Saturday morning over the South China Sea has led aviation experts to assume that whatever happened was quick and left the pilots no time to place a distress call. Hi, everybody. This week, I traveled to New England, where I was joined by four governors who are working to raise the minimum wage in each of their states. And they’ve also joined me in calling on Congress to raise the minimum wage from $7.25 to $10.10 an hour. Because it would give nearly 800,000 Americans in their states a raise — and lift wages for about 28 million across the country. So these governors aren’t waiting for Congress to make up its mind. And in my State of the Union Address, I asked America’s business leaders to go ahead and do what they could to raise their employees’ wages, too.
