Group tries to slow federal government’s
move away from paper to the Web

Washington Post, by Lisa Rein

As the Obama administration pushes to do more business over the Internet, finally seeking to close the technology gap with the private sector, the digital makeover is running into a dogged opponent called Consumers for Paper Options. (Snip) With federal budgets under fire in Congress, the government’s move to the Internet has gained pace. An electronic payment, for instance, costs the government only 9 cents to process, compared with $1.25 for a paper check, the Treasury Department says. At Treasury, which last year suspended most paper mailings for all but the very aged and those with “mental impairments,” officials estimate

Comments:
Two things to understand. Any "savings" from not using paper will go to some more pork in Congress and not to pay down our ballooning debt. And, with their total lack of security on "unclassified" websites, no way one should trust them to be secure to handle personal data.

According to end-time Biblical Prophecies....this is the BUILD-UP preparation for the Antichrist takeover. I know, I know.....so many of you do not believe .....but it´s like the blind leading the blind into the pit.....you won´t see till you fall in there. I pray God opens your eyes before it´s too late because it´s happening right now, right before your eyes. Wake up.

Bill Clinton Calls Edward Snowden
An ‘Imperfect Messenger’
ABC News, by Erin Dooley    Original Article

NSA leaker Edward Snowden has been characterized as a traitor, a hacker and a whistleblower. Bill Clinton prefers to think of him as an “imperfect messenger.” The former president — who in previous interviews has appeared hesitant to criticize Snowden — weighed in on the surveillance debate during remarks at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., Tuesday afternoon. “The Snowden case has raised all these questions about whether we can use technology to protect national security without destroying the liberty which includes the right to privacy of basically innocent bystanders,” he said.

Washington - The Pentagon plans to remove 50 nuclear-armed intercontinental ballistic missiles from their silos over the next four years but not eliminate them from the U.S. arsenal, a move aimed at complying with a 2010 treaty with Russia and avoiding a fight with members of Congress from states where the missiles are based. Lawmakers had feared reductions in nuclear forces required under the New START treaty would eliminate an entire ICBM squadron at one of three Air Force bases in North Dakota, Montana and Wyoming where the U.S. keeps its 450 Minuteman III missiles — a potentially major economic

Secret Service Director Julia Pierson has demoted the supervisor of one of the agency’s largest divisions and reassigned nearly two dozen members of its staff, part of a broader cleanup effort in the wake of embarrassing drinking incidents on two recent presidential trips, according to three people familiar with the moves. The agency also has ordered stricter rules on drinking for employees of the division, known as special operations, prohibiting them from drinking alcohol within 12 hours of reporting for duty and 24 hours before the president’s arrival at any trip location. Five employees of the special operations division were

New York - In 2012, an enterprising ophthalmologist in south Florida received $20.8 million in Medicare payments, the highest amount the government health plan for the elderly paid an individual provider that year, according to a preliminary analysis of federal data. A family-practice doctor in Maryland may have received an average of more than $86,000 per patient that year, according to a Reuters review of the data. And a California laboratory apparently received $190 million, the most Medicare paid a single entity in 2012. Boston - After taking heat from some of its own over a decision to grant an honorary degree to an advocate for Muslim women who has made comments critical of Islam, Brandeis University withdrew the planned honor Tuesday night. The university said in a statement that Somali-born Ayaan Hirsi Ali would no longer receive the honor at the May 18 commencement. Ali, a member of the Dutch Parliament from 2003 to 2006, has been quoted as making comments critical of Islam. That includes a 2007 interview with Reason Magazine in which she said of the religion, "Once it's defeated, it can mutate into something peaceful.

Search crews have relocated signals, hoped to be from MH370’s black box, another two times. Search co-ordinator and retired Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston has told reporters in Perth the discovery by Australian ship Ocean Shield is “further encouraging”. “The detection yesterday afternoon was held for approximately five minutes and 32 seconds,” he said. “The detection late last night was held for approximately 7 minutes.” It takes the number of transmissions detected by Ocean Shield to four. “Yesterday’s signals will assist in better defining a reduced and much more manageable search area on the ocean floor,”

Bajc explained why she refuses to believe the general consensus that the plane crashed and is currently somewhere at the bottom of the Indian Ocean. “I think the general perception amongst the families is that the timing of these pings is awfully coincidental with the batteries wearing out,”

The Obama administration intensified its objections on Tuesday to Iran’s nomination for United Nations ambassador, a former translator whose role in 1979-81 Tehran hostage crisis has touched American political nerves, asserting that the choice was “not viable” in what seemed as close as possible to ruling it out. The assertion, made by the White House press secretary, Jay Carney, came hours after the Senate voted unanimously on Monday night on a bipartisan measure that would bar the nominee, Hamid Aboutalebi, from taking the United Nations post by denying him a visa. House passage of the measure was considered a near

But there’s a dirty little secret: Not every Republican is rooting for their party to succeed. Kathryn Riffenburg decided on a closed casket for her baby´s funeral. She didn´t want her family to see what whooping cough, her son´s first illness, had done to 9-week-old Brady Alcaide. The nearly forgotten disease, which has in recent years afflicted thousands of Americans, left Brady´s tiny body swollen and unrecognizable. So his mother dressed him in a white baptismal suit and hat and tucked him into a tiny white casket. Brady´s burial came just four weeks after his first laugh — inspired by her version of I´m a Little Teapot — and two weeks after his family learned that he had

When friends and family members gathered recently at the White House for a private celebration of Michelle Obama’s 50th birthday, one of the invited partygoers was a former paid FBI Mafia informant. That same man attended February’s state dinner in honor of French President Francois Hollande. He was seated with his girlfriend at a table adjacent to President Barack Obama, who is likely unaware that, according to federal agents, his guest once interacted with members of four of New York City’s five organized crime families. He even secretly taped some of those wiseguys using a briefcase that FBI technicians outfitted

Democrats are facing a senior problem that could get even worse this year. The party has traditionally had trouble with older voters, losing the group aged 65 and over by 21 points in 2010 — when Republicans picked up 63 seats — and by 12 points in the 2012 presidential race. Seniors are the GOP’s most reliable voting bloc in midterm years, turning out in higher numbers than Democratic base voters. A recent Gallup poll showed seniors have become even more Republican over the last two decades; in 2013, 48 percent considered themselves Republican. That spells trouble for Democrats, who are already facing

LONDON - Peaches Geldof, the wild-child second daughter of concert organizer Bob Geldof who worked as a model, a television presenter and a fashion writer and filled the pages of British tabloids with her late-night antics, has died at age 25. There was no immediate word on the cause of her death at her home in Wrotham, Kent, southeast England. Her father said in a statement Monday: "Peaches has died. We are beyond pain." "She was the wildest, funniest, cleverest, wittiest and the most bonkers of all of us," he said. "Writing 'was' destroys me afresh. What a beautiful child. How is this possible that we will not see her again? How is that bearable? We loved her and will cherish her forever."
