Jeh Johnson, Secretary of Homeland
Security, wins confidence of many

New York Daily News, by Joseph Straw

Original Article

Posted By:athina, 2/16/2014 3:50:41 PM

The fourth person to head the Department of Homeland Security, Jeh Johnson, is the only one who watched firsthand as terrorists struck New York. “Like millions of others that day,” Johnson told the U.S. Conference of Mayors recently, “I was shocked, I was devastated, I wanted to do something.” The opportunity came in 2009, when President Obama asked him to be the Pentagon’s general counsel, supervising 10,000 lawyers and delivering advice to Defense Secretary Robert Gates on every major military operation — including the high-risk mission that ended Osama Bin Laden’s life.

Comments:
A personal note: the new DHS secretary attended my kids´ high school and was a special speaker at my oldest son´s graduation ceremony in 2009, as described in this article -- I remember that speech well - it was funny and inspiring; it was directed at the C and D students, as he had been one of them. But... he grew up to be a liberal Democrat, so we took his words with a grain of salt, lol.

The best Secretary of DHS is no Secretary of DHS. This department is not and never was needed. We have a FBI. Homeland Security should be their purview.

10,000 lawyers at the pentagon? I doubt that. But the very fact that the job title
combat lawyer exists is troubling.
And why did Baraq the Insignificant need lawyer advise to go after the head of the filthy islamofascist terrorist pigs?

Sorry, but I trust no one in Barry´s administration, much less Homeland Security with all their bullet buying, including sniper bullets, and arming state sheriffs/police with militarized equipment.

Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro today signed a measure that removes a 3.75 percent sales tax on residential energy sources in Dutchess County. "We have listened to our constituents and now keep our promise to repeal this tax upon receipt of aid from Albany," Molinaro said in a statement. The Dutchess County Legislature voted unanimously Monday night to repeal the sales tax, which was imposed last year in order to make up a budget shortfall. The vote, coming barely a month after the tax went into effect, was spurred by strong condemnation from the public, and by $5.25 million in

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- The U.S. Supreme Court rejected an appeal Monday from a studio that refused to photograph a lesbian couple´s commitment ceremony, letting stand a New Mexico high court ruling that helped spur a national debate over gay rights and religious freedom. The justices left in place a unanimous state Supreme Court ruling last year that said Elane Photography violated New Mexico´s Human Rights Act by refusing to photograph the same-sex ceremony "in the same way as if it had refused to photograph a wedding between people of different races."

The Birmingham school at the centre of an alleged campaign of “Islamisation” by Muslim radicals is to be placed in “special measures” by the Government’s education watchdog in a move that could see its head teacher and governors removed. Park View, previously rated “outstanding” by Ofsted, will be downgraded to “inadequate”, the lowest possible score, in the category of leadership and management, senior education sources said. This enables Ofsted to place the school in special measures, allowing the watchdog, if it wishes, to remove the school’s entire leadership. The move, described as “seismic” by senior educational

Opponents of the Senate Gang of Eight legislation have long been wary of the House leadership’s intentions with respect to immigration reform. They are perhaps even more skeptical now that proponents are already downplaying the odds of success. House Budget Committee chairman Paul Ryan (R., Wis.), one of the most prominent GOP advocates for comprehensive immigration reform, told ABC News’s George Stephanopoulos on Sunday that reform’s prospects were “clearly in doubt.” Opponents of comprehensive reform say they have reason to suspect a ruse. For example, the fate of the Gang of Eight legislation was frequently called into question, even though

ALBANY — New York’s ban on assault weapons is constitutional, but the state’s gun control law cannot limit a magazine to seven bullets, a federal court judge ruled Tuesday. The ruling by Chief U.S. District Judge William Skretny in Buffalo found New York’s law, called the SAFE Act, doesn’t infringe on Second Amendment rights. But the judge tossed a provision that allows only seven bullets in a magazine, saying the number is “arbitrary.” “This court finds that the challenged provisions of the SAFE Act — including the act’s definition and regulation of assault weapons and its ban on large-capacity magazines

After A&E reinstated Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson on Friday, the Human Rights Campaign, which promotes gay rights, said the network gave them assurances that the Robertson family would be open to having a dialogue with blacks and the LGBT community. The group revealed they asked A&E for such meetings after it suspended Robertson for making what were deemed to be anti-gay comments in a GQ magazine interview. Fred Sainz, a Human Rights Campaign representative, told CNN that the group wanted to "thank A&E for their attentiveness and collaboration over the course of the last few weeks"

One week after a federal judge in Utah held laws against polygamy are unconstitutional, another Utah federal judge has held that the U.S. Constitution also contains a right to same-sex marriage, describing laws defining marriage as between men and women “irrational.” In his 53-page opinion for Kitchen v. Herbert on Dec. 20, U.S. District Judge Robert Shelby—who was appointed by President Obama in 2011—compared marriage laws that do not include homosexual pairings to racist laws. He noted that in its 1967 case Loving v. Virginia, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down as a violation of the Fourteenth Amendment a Virginia law

The town of Sanford, Fla., is set to announce new guidelines for Neighborhood Watch members, including a ban on carrying guns while on volunteer duty. The new guidelines, to be made public at a community meeting at City Hall on Tuesday, come less than four months after George Zimmerman was acquitted in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, the Orlando (Fla.) Sanford Police Chief Cecil Smith requested the no-gun policy in an effort to better regulate the town´s Neighborhood Watch network, said police department spokeswoman Shannon Cordingly. The state of California is reportedly considering legislation that would force group insurance policies to provide infertility treatment for gay and lesbian couples. Two men who have sex with each other for a year and do not produce a baby would be considered “infertile” under the proposed legislation. So would two women having sex. Since biology does not allow those without a uterus to conceive or those without a penis to impregnate, every year-long gay couple in California would potentially be covered by this new provision of California law.

In a stunning end to one of the most aggressively unsuccessful tenures in retail history, JCPenney (JCP) last night announced that CEO Ron Johnson would be leaving effective immediately. Myron Ullman, Johnson´s predecessor at JCPenney, takes office as CEO. When Johnson was initially wooed by JCPenney, it was to serve as CEO with Ullman as Chairman. In January 2012, Ullman was unceremoniously removed from the board. Gone with Ullman was any control the Board of Directors had over Ron Johnson and his control of JCPenney resources.

Many Americans have been watching with great consternation the ongoing struggle between the Federal Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the U.S. Marshals against Cliven Bundy and his family. There are no signs of either side relinquishing their position. Many onlookers have been informed that this dispute is over protecting the desert tortoise. But it is nothing of the sort. In fact, the reality of the dispute goes far underneath what is being talked about. The more appropriate source of the dispute is ground water as well as surface water -- this is a war over water. The son of the Nevada rancher locked in an increasingly tense land dispute with the federal government, says their cowboys managed to break a blockade and retrieve around 30 head of cattle. Federal agents swooped on Tuesday after Cliven Bundy, dubbed the last remaining rancher in southern Nevada, refused to remove his herd of 900 cows from land he claims has been in his family since 1870. The heavily-armed federal agents, equipped with eight helicopters and backed-up by snipers, surrounded the Bundy ranch after the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) attained a federal court order to confiscate the family´s herd. Following the massacre of grammar-school children in Newtown, Conn., in December 2012, high-powered weapons have been used to kill innocent victims in more senseless public incidents. Those killings, however, are only a fragment of the total harm caused by the misuse of firearms. Each year, more than 30,000 people die in the United States in firearm-related incidents. Many of those deaths involve handguns. The adoption of rules that will lessen the number of those incidents should be a matter of primary concern to both federal and state legislators. Legislatures are in a far better position than judges to assess the

Nearly a year into the IRS scandal, we still don´t know exactly what happened—though we are finally getting an inkling. That´s thanks to the letter House Ways and Means Chairman Dave Camp sent this week to the Justice Department recommending a criminal probe of Lois Lerner. The average citizen might be dizzied by the torrent of confusing terms—BOLO lists, Tigta, 501(c)(4)—and the array of accusations that have made up this IRS investigation. Mr. Camp´s letter takes a step back to remind us why this matters, even as it provides compelling new information that goes to motive and method—and clarifies some of

Solar power has won the global argument. Photovoltaic energy is already so cheap that it competes with oil, diesel and liquefied natural gas in much of Asia without subsidies. Roughly 29pc of electricity capacity added in America last year came from solar, rising to 100pc even in Massachusetts and Vermont.[Snip] The technology is improving so fast--helped by the US military--that it has achieved a virtous circle. Coming clearly through the throbbing of helicopters and the roar of the SUVS of the feds harassing the Cliven Bundy Ranch, patriots there for Bundy should “tell it to the judge”. There is mainstream media-suppressed case history in Nevada the feds are desperately trying to keep under wraps. Chief Judge Robert C.
