Horror at the world´s largest
solar farm days after it opens
as it is revealed panels are
SCORCHING birds that fly over them

Environmentalists have hit out at a giant new solar farm in the Mojave Desert as mounting evidence reveals birds flying through the extremely hot ´thermal flux´ surrounding the towers are being scorched. After years of regulatory tangles around the impact on desert wildlife, the Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System opened on Thursday but environmental groups say the nearly 350,000 gigantic mirrors are generating 1000 degree Fahrenheit temperatures which are killing and singing birds. According to compliance documents released by developer BrightSource Energy last year, dozens of birds were found injured at the site during the building stage. State and federal

It´s a big, expensive, solar bird (ex bug) zapper!
Is this any better than shredding them with wind turbine bird (ex food) processors?

Obama´s ignorance and ineptitude reflected in the solar panels:

1. $1.6 billion Energy Dept guaranteed loan
2. Electricity that will cost at least twice conventional rates.
3. Plant that costs 3 times more than conventional power plant.
4. Apparently free use of hundreds if not thousands iof acres of federal land in Mojave Desert,
5. Crispy peregrine falcons, hawks, song birds and other winged creatures for homeless kitchens.

My question is: who is going to clean these reflectors! I have a metal roof on my house that, after 5 years, has a film of dust/dirt on it. My question also applies to solar panels. Who cleans those?

The sun shines most of the days here. It doesn´t shine at night, where does the "green" electricity come from at night? Wind? What if the sun doesn´t shine and the wind doesn´t blow then what? Can´t use hydro because the fish can´t breed. Can´t do nuclear because the lofos think it will explode. Can´t use hydrocarbons because it produces CO2, a pollutant?, which is called a fertilizer by farmers. I am sure Obama´s geniuses will have this figured out soon and save us.

You touched something very important.
They will use distilled water or RO water for cleaning. Regular water leaves stains need to be clean water. Plant will use electricity to produce RO water and a lot of of it.
The best part is plant will not work at night, since there is no way to store electricity there is second plant somewhere as a back up.
Actually the second back-up plant can exist on its own and whole contraption with mirrors is used to get subsidies and fry wings as a bonus.

Rush is going to love this story. Remember how he laughed over the baby sea otter that the kids took in up at Valdez after the oil spill? They cleanedd it all up, then took the otter, the school band and all the student body down to the shore, released the otter into the sea, where an orca promptly gobbled it down. Boomerang!

But they had environmental studies out the wazoo before they built this. A good remedy would be that all the money for the studies be refunded and the formerly wealthy environmental consultants go out and get a real job! That will save the birds as much as anything. If they could pin it on a wealthy industrialist we would never hear the end of pity the birds - but when they pay the birds wouldn´t matter!

I saw this about a month ago and didn´t realize that it wasn´t operational, because two of the towers were emanating a bright aura as the mirrors lit them up. It was very impressive. However, like the gigantic wind turbines in Tehachapi and Mojave, it looked fantastically expensive to build and operate.

As far as the birds go - it depends on what kinds are fried - there was no mention in the article. The photos seem, for the most part, to point to great ravens - the largest of the perching birds. These birds are extremely common out here and their numbers are buoyed by their ubiquitous raiding of discarded trash at rest stops, dumps and everywhere else in the desert. It´s not a bad idea to singe a few of them. Can´t tell if the other photo is a small raptor or a grackle - another common pest.

Two white adults divided the toys, one equally and the other unequally. Seventy per cent of the toddlers chose to play with the researcher who distributed the toys fairly. But in a second test, when one researcher favoured a white recipient over an Asian one, they picked the ‘fair’ researcher less often, the journal Frontiers in Psychology reports.
