A young woman sobs at the door of an apartment in Fridley. She claims to be the daughter of 44-year-old Uriel Ortiz, who was stabbed to death Thursday while at a floral nursery in the east metro. "He was a good man," she said. 59-year-old Gregorio Ramirez is charged with stabbing and killing Ortiz. Rameriz was his co-worker at Bailey Nurseries in Newport. Police say, Thursday afternoon they got a call about a medical emergency at the nursery. When they got there Ortiz was already dead. An investigation began and it determined Ramirez was the only person with Ortiz at the time of the stabbing.

Maybe I´m just too old and jaded by my life experiences but two Latino "nursery" workers get in a dust up. I wonder if either had a Green Card...?

The second sentence mystifies me. I wonder why the word "claims" is necessary. Is there a question? I read the article and there is no explanation.

Ramirez will be a White Hispanic if NBC runs the story.

Notice this clever devil also has two surnames, Ramirez and Rameriz.

Minnesota billionaire Glen Taylor has made a formal offer to acquire the Star Tribune, a purchase that would add the state’s largest media company to his diverse business empire. Taylor said in an interview Tuesday that he has made a cash offer as an individual without any other investors. He declined to say how much he would pay, but he emphasized that the Star Tribune is the only media company he is pursuing. “I’m interested in this one because it’s a Minnesota paper,” Taylor said.

Dawn Marie Pfister was a 34-year-old “free spirit” and the mother of two young children from Elkhorn, Wis. Her boyfriend Matthew Vincent Serbus once lived in St. Paul and had a long criminal record for theft, robbery and drugs. Now, Pfister’s family and friends are searching for answers about how and why the couple died of gunshot wounds after leading police on a high-speed chase on Hwy. 212 from Chaska to Eden Prairie on Friday morning. The Hennepin County medical examiner’s office identified the two Saturday. Officials have not released many details about the incident or explained what prompted police to open fire.

In a radio interview last week, Gov. Thirteen people were injured, six critically, early Wednesday moirning after an explosion caused a major fire at a grocery store and apartment building on Cedar Ave. in south Minneapolis. No cause has been identified as of yet, said Greg Nelson, supervisor of the Minneapolis Emergency Communications Center, but the building that housed the West Bank Grocery and a mosque is likely a total loss. A police squad car reported the fire at around 8:16 a.m. after seeing the explosion and seeing debris on the street, he said. Flames were shooting 20 feet from the building, officials said. The second and third floor later collapsed. The injured were transported to Hennepin County Medical Center and Univesity Hospital.

Federal authorities have obtained confidential documents that shed new light on JPMorgan Chase´s decision to hire the children of China´s ruling elite, securing emails that show how the bank linked one prominent hire to "existing and potential business opportunities" from a Chinese government-run company. The documents, which also include spreadsheets that list the bank´s "track record" for converting hires into business deals, offer the most detailed account yet of JPMorgan´s "Sons and Daughters" hiring program, which has been at the center of a federal bribery investigation for months.

Shavelle Chavez-Nelson spent fewer than four of the past 14 years outside the walls of Minnesota jails or prisons. In that time, he was accused or convicted of at least seven violent crimes. He and Anarae Schunk, a smart 20-year-old college student, met at a bus stop in the summer of 2012, during Nelson’s longest stretch as a free man. He told her he was a hedge fund manager, and despite the disapproval of her family and friends, Schunk dated him for a few months. Those who knew her say she thought she could help him.

President Obama addressed the White House press corps today, announcing that with the final numbers in, Obamacare´s exchanges have attracted eight million sign-ups -- 35 percent of whom are "under the age of 35," he said. Several elements of his comments were misleading: (1) At first blush, the 35 percent stat is both significant and impressive. As recently as last month, the share of "young invincibles" signing up for plans was struggling in the 25 percent range, far short of the actuarial target of nearly 40 percent. A leap into the mid-30´s, while still shy of the goal, would constitute a major step, and would bode well for the risk pools'

The White House is going to war with another fox — and this time, it’s personal. The Wall Street Journal reports that a red fox has been causing chaos around the White House, tripping security alarms, digging up Michelle’s garden and distracting the president from his duties. The Secret Service won’t give any details about how often the fox trips the White House’s obviously sophisticated security alarms, but rest assured, officials say, they’re watching. President Obama was apparently “stunned” to see the fox roaming freely down the oft-photographed White House colonnade, home to the world’s shortest, but most dramatic, outdoor strolls. Washington Post columnist Ruth Marcus kicked off the attack last week when she blasted as “demagoguery” the administration´s tactics during the pay gap debate. “The level of hyperbole -- actually, of demagoguery -- that Democrats have engaged in here is revolting,” she wrote.
