Mob Attacks More Than a

New York Times, by Adam Nossiter

DAKAR, Senegal — A mob attacked gay people in a neighborhood in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, dragging young men from their homes, beating them with nail-studded clubs and whips, and shouting that they were “cleansing the community” of gays, several Nigerian activists and a witness said Saturday. The attack took place late Wednesday night in the Gishiri neighborhood, and one victim was beaten nearly to death, the witness said. Afterward, the mob of about 50 young men dragged four of the victims to a nearby police station, where the police further beat and insulted them, said the witness, who

I guess when they were gathering news from Africa, the New York Times didn´t notice the reports about the thousands of Christians under attack/murdered.

Apparently the attackers are Muslim but the NYT doesn´t want to say so.

Hence they tell us similar violence has occurred elsewhere in Muslim dominated areas of Nothern Nigeria.

That really pins it down, all readers will know Nigerian geography.

All in all I am surprised none were killed.

When discussing the thoughtcrime prosecution and ouster of Mozilla CEO Brendan Eich last night, I quoted a passage from a First Things article which appeared to assert that Eich´s donation to the campaign for the Prop 8 gay marriage ban in California in 2008 - the sole reason he was hounded out of his job by a fascist mob - was made public when corrupt agents of the Internal Revenue Service leaked the donor list for the National Organization for Marriage to a gay-rights group. John Edwards — who quit his presidential campaign in disgrace when he was caught cheating on his wife — was barred from Bunny Mellon’s funeral by her family. The former US Senator from North Carolina had charmed Rachel Lambert Mellon, known to all as Bunny, into donating $700,000 for his 2008 presidential bid. Prosecutors charged he used some of the money to support his mistress Rielle Hunter, who was then pregnant with his daughter Frances Quinn. When the former politician and his daughter Cate Edwards, who is also his law partner, arrived Friday at Mellon’s funeral at the Trinity Episcopal

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – President Obama compared the Republican budget plan to a "stinkburger" or "meanwich" during a speech here Wednesday, using a series of zingers in an attempt to strike a contrast with the GOP on economic issues in an election year. Obama, who visited the local Zingerman´s deli before the speech, said that Republican proposals to cut taxes for wealthier Americans and

Saudi Arabia has officially identified atheists as terrorists in sweeping new laws that threaten up to 20 years in prison for almost any criticism of the government or Islam. The regulations place secular citizens who commit thought crimes in the same category as violent terrorist groups such as Al-Qaeda´s Yemen branch and Saudi Hezbollah. Under the new decree by King Abdullah, Saudi Arabia will jail for up to 20 years anyone who fights in conflicts abroad - an apparent move to deter Saudis from joining rebels in Syria. That is the news on the Drudge Report, which links to a Reuters dispatch reporting that Pollard, who is being held by America on a life sentence for spying for Israel, and “groups of Palestinian prisoners” could be “freed under an emerging deal to salvage Middle East peace talks.” It attributes this news to “sources close to the negotiations,” who say Pollard could be out by April. The Spaniards – Margarita Torres and José Ortega del Río – believe the 2,000-year-old vessel is in a church in León in northern Spain. The pair spent three years studying the history of the chalice and last week published a book, “The Kings of the Grail,” making their case. The onyx chalice, they explained, was concealed within another antique vessel known as the Chalice of Doña Urruca, which is located in León’s basilica of

This week, the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is releasing its latest report, the “Working Group II Contribution to the Fifth Assessment Report.” Like its past reports, this one predicts apocalyptic consequences if mankind fails to give the UN the power to tax and regulate fossil fuels and subsidize and mandate the use of alternative fuels. But happily, an international group of scientists I have been privileged to work with has conducted an independent review of IPCC’s past and new reports, along with the climate science they deliberately exclude or misrepresent.

Public humiliation can be a terrific teaching tool, and Cuomo has neither spared the rod nor spoiled the mayor, beginning on Day One. (But always wearing a smile, of course). So when City Hall last week suggested strongly that Cuomo find cash for an expansion of welfare housing subsidies, the

In an interview with CQ Roll Call, Moran says, “I think the American people should know that the members of Congress are underpaid.” The House recently took up a bill to freeze members’ paychecks, placing another halt on the annual cost-of-living pay increases they would normally get and keeping annual salary at $174,000.
