GOP: Obama´s Medicare cuts
´a breach of faith with seniors´

Investor´s Business Daily, by Andrew Malcolm

Good morning. Few promises are more sacred than the ones we make to older Americans. Protecting the dignity and the security our seniors have earned is a commitment that spans generations and party lines. For example, during President Obama´s health care speech to Congress in the fall of 2009, he spoke directly to older Americans. “These steps,” he said, “will ensure that you — America’s seniors — get the benefits you´ve been promised.” Then, during a telephone town hall with seniors from around the country, he said he wanted to respond to what he called “hysterical claims” about his plan. “Here’s the truth..." he said,

Zippy´s health care cuts to the elderly is directly affecting my wife´s health, We are no longer allowed to get a prescribed asthma drug even though it is the best available and not the most expensive. Seems as uncle sugar has done a deal with his bundlers and changed to benefit their pocketbooks.

Very early on, we were warned about the Medicare Advantage cuts ... so this isn´t much of a surprise.

Before I retired, I spoke with our insurance provider rep - and went with basic Medicare A&B and took the retirement benefit supplemental insurance that includes prescription coverage. Employer pays about 1/3 of premium.

If I need something that Medicare or insurance doesn´t cover, I pay for it myself.

All I can do is speak for my Medicare experience regular Medicare A and B plus AARP Supplemental. Been on this for 8 years and never have been denied a thing my doctors have prescribed, including surgery, and have never had to pay anything but the premiums.

Over the past year I have received close to a million dollars of cancer care- surgery, chemo, and radiation and have been treated by some of the finest doctors in the country, covered in full by Medicare and AARP supplemental. If there have been cuts it certainly hasn´t been in life or death catastrophic health care.

the law is repealed. Which can only happen if Obama is impeached or a Republican President and Congress is elected in 2016.

This article and the thread of comments are a showcase of ObamaCare. Medicare Advantage was Obama´s number one target because it is run by companies and not the government. He was aided and abetted by the AARP who made big bucks selling supplemental insurance to conventional Medicare patients. The first cuts were supposed to happen 1/1/2013, but notifications would have had to go out in late summer 2012 just before the election. HHS created a pilot program to delay implementation to early 2013, and then held off again. Those who smugly pat themselves on the back for sticking with conventional Medicare should realize that if the Doctor Fix isn´t updated on a regular basis, their doctors will simply not take Medicare as payment. Medicare Advantage is a contract with a company not a deal with the government. And the fearless GOP is still writing letters instead of fighting back.

#15, I´ve been wary of Medicare Advantage ever since I saw the rather poor care an elderly relative got when she broke a hip. The immediate emergency care and surgery were great, but the post-surgical rehab situation was dreadful--a drab, dreary nursing home with no rehabilitation equipment or facilities (they took patients into the fire escape stairwell to practice walking up and down stairs).

This despite the fact that the surgery hospital had an award-winning, state-of-the-art rehabilitation center--but the Advantage insurance company didn´t have it on their network. They did have the drab, dreary nursing home, though, so that was where the patient was discharged to.

To clarify on my #16 post: The patient was taken by ambulance to a major trauma hospital, which did the surgery, so Advantage had no say in that part of the patient´s care. They quickly demanded she be moved to the nursing home, rather than pay for a stay in the trauma hospital.

#1 Your wife needs to appeal on her asthma medication. If the doctor co-operates with the form, she should get it. Otherwise, contact the pharmaceutical company.

There is no such thing as an AARP supplement.
AARP is selling United Healthcare and should be sued for false advertisement.

I have changed PCP´s twice this year because management companies are buying up medical practices limiting specialist. Those taking Medicare Advantage members are few and far between. The staff at some of these offices are just hateful and running off patients.

Not happy that any doctor is getting a bonus for asking personal questions not related to our medical care either.

Hate to break the news to you, but our old pal Archie Andrews is doomed. After 73 years of not looking a day over 17, the long-running all-American symbol of wholesomeness and teen goodness is set to die in July, according to Archie Comics. He´ll go out good, saving someone. Which is swell. But is this really necessary in a soiled age of cynicism, non-heroes and non-role models, lying leaders and downright criminals? It's already hard enough being a parent with all the unwholesome temptations at hand. Must we inevitably give up every enduring symbol of hope and good and fun for a one-month publicity splash?

There was plenty of talk in Washington this week about equal pay. The thing is — it was just that: more talk. As a woman who worked at McDonald’s to get through college…. as the mom of two young daughters … and as the elected representative of thousands of hardworking women, I have always supported equal pay for equal work. And if a woman is being paid less than a man because of gender discrimination, that is both wrong and against the law. The protections provided to women and others in the Equal Pay Act must be enforced to make certain there is no pay disparity because of discrimination.

Hi, everybody. Earlier this week was Equal Pay Day. It marks the extra time the average woman has to work into a new year to earn what a man earned the year before. You see, the average woman who works full-time in America earns less than a man — even when she’s in the same profession and has the same education. That´s wrong. In 2014, it’s an embarrassment. Women deserve equal pay for equal work. This is an economic issue that affects all of us. Women make up about half our workforce. And more and more, they’re our families’ main breadwinners. So it’s good for everyone when women are paid fairly.

How do you ensure that you won’t be ostracized, denounced, or fired if you are a media celebrity, captain of industry, or high public official? For some, sexist banter is certainly no problem. Stand-up comedian Bill Maher called Sarah Palin a c–t and a tw-t, but suffered no ill consequences. David Letterman joked on air that Sarah Palin’s 14-year-old daughter had had sex with Alex Rodriguez during a New York Yankees game. There was no downside to that either.
