Please Stick To Politics, Greta

On her TV show this past weekend, Greta Van Susteren, commented on an incident involving Marcus Smart, the Oklahoma basketball star who went into the stands and shoved a Texas Tech fan, before being pulled off by his teammates. (Snip) In the video monologue, she placed the bulk of the blame, and aimed her anger at the fan: "How about banning him long term. A 53 year-old man yelling - piece of crap - at a college athlete...He's obnoxious. He's making it not fun for everyone else, including the players...As long as adults...get away with showing belligerent behavior towards college students, don't be so surprised when students mimic that

if he´s willing to attack a fan at a college game, how do you think he´ll act when thousands, or millions of dollars are at stake in a professional game, and a fan is irritating him? He clearly has anger managament issues, and doesn´t understand that what the fan did was heckle him (totally legal) and what he did is battery (totallly illegal). Responding to being "disrespected" verbally by physically attacking someone, is still illegal as far as I know.

Looks like it has become the black MO that whenever you get into trouble or make an arse of yourself, play the race card. As far as I´m concerned, that card expired in November 2008.

I couldn´t understand Greta´s response. Hey Greta, how about this player demonstrate some maturity? Duh, people are gonna say mean even vile things from the stands. What a big baby. I note anchors want to encourage forgiveness for athletes who say and do vile things in the heat of a game! Well, the fan was excited and agitated here. The player was wrong.

I cannot watch Greta Van Susteren for more than a few minutes. That grating voice, the repetitive statements, the beat-it-to-death segments are a waste of my time. I enjoy some of her guests, but the appearance of one of her favorites (always featured on tape) means an immediate change of channel for me.

I´m appalled at the fan, and I´m with Greta, but the player was completely 100% in the wrong as well.

But the player better get used to it. It seems that a lot of supposed adults get out of control at sporting events --from little league and Pop Warner all the way to the big leagues.

Doesn´t make it right, but if someone wants to pay me $50M a year, I´ll let anyone call me anything they please --and take it with a smile.

I didn´t know realize until reading this article that the player had accused the fan of calling him the "N" word. That makes the player doubly in the wrong.

And John Lewis [along with many, many more of his ilk] has been a total embarrassment since he learned to play the race card.

Greta has been a no-watch for me--going as far back as the O.J. murder trial.

Got to give credit where credit is due--she has accomplished much with so little.

I too was befuddled by Greta´s report on this issue. She should leave this kind of material to the TMX´s of the world. Stick to your knitting.

I saw the clip of this incident. It´s one thing for 5000 people to be yelling and screaming for their players and against the other players. However, this particular fan made it personal when a player he didn´t like wound up in his space. This fan went out of his way to insult the player right to his face. This doesn´t excuse the player but I can understand why he lashed out at some fat, non player, white guy who badmouths him right to his face. The fan had just about as much class as the player, probably even less.

They´re all doing this.

Bret Baier now has a segment of "news clips". Megyn has gone back to the same small issue turned ito big kerfuffle rants that spoiled her AM show (we are on West Coast - it was AM).

Fox hosts rant on this stuff all day. Then their prime time personalities pick up the ball. We are turning them off, moving on to other channels, or just skipping TV.

PS. There was plenty of blame to go around in that incident. It just didn´t deserve so much of our time.

I´m afraid that the response to this incident isn´t critical ENOUGH of the player.

It´s one thing to say that you responded angrily to someone who merely taunted you. The player here did more, much more. A false and self-serving accusation of "racist" language could cost an individual current and future employment and significant diminishment of future social standing. It is a deadly accusation, fully as destructive in intent as calling someone a "Red" in the 1950´s (a sport the recollection of which STILL forces tears to the eyes of the PC crowd.) And it was a LIE.

I´d throw this cowardly punk off the team, if not out of school. He lost his temper, exhibited violence (a truly pathetic and dangerous response to hooting at a Grade B basketball game) and then tried to destroy someone else´s life to protect himself and make himself out to be the "victim."

BTW, there were many more ACTUAL Reds in the 50´s than racists today, and those accused were almost always guilty. Big difference. DIdn´t want to imply otherwise . . .

"Fan" is short for fanatic.

Ya buy a ticket and ya get to leave peanut shells on the floor, swill twelve dollar beer and scream your head off.

That´s where all the money comes from.

You can´t be a multi-million dollar a year entertainer and a thin skinned victim at the same time.

Pick one or the other.

I should learn to avoid threads involving FOX News because of all the comments that come in from people who don´t watch it. It´s the same as discussing Rush´s radio show with a liberal, they can´t tell you why they hate him because they never listen to him. Why bother to hear the gripe?

I am aware of Gretta´s political leaning, but I find her to be fair and aggressive at getting answers out of her guests, regardless of their party affiliation. I grew up in a family of 12 kids and at times I find myself amazed that we were all raised by the same parents, maybe that´s why I don´t require someone to agree with me all the time or they are branded worthless. It seems that I´ve been wasting more reading time on threads attacking the source rather than commenting on the content of the story.

I could only wish that all dems were like Gretta and Pat Cadell (sp?), so we could actually have honest debates instead of shouting matches, we might solve some problems with reasonable compromise.

BTW, Gretta is totally wrong on this issue, the fan may have been obnoxious but he wasn´t vulgar or racist in his remarks. The player is the same age as our soldiers that have to maintain dignity under harsher assaults than words.

There are two gun-rights billboards in Greeley, Colorado depicting a black-and-white image of three American Indians. Below the picture are the words, "Turn in your arms. The government will take care of you."....As is to be expected from the mainstream media, this Yahoo News article and accompanying video only quotes or shows those who are disgusted, and believe that the ads are offensive, insensitive, and make light of atrocities the federal government committed. If the left gets their way, in a day or two, we can expect the racist perpetrators to be shown with their heads bowed,

In other words, the most distinguished scientists from the country with the world´s pre-eminent educational institutions were trying to shake humanity out of its complacency. WASHINGTON — Mitt Romney said Sunday that President Barack Obama is naive when it comes to Russia, has shown "faulty judgment" about Moscow´s intentions and could have done more to try to deter its annexation of Crimea. The 2012 Republican presidential nominee said Obama didn´t have the foresight to anticipate Russia´s moves and should have been working earlier with allies to make clear the penalties that Russia would face if it moved into Ukraine. Romney did acknowledge that such steps may not have been enough though to hold back Russia President Vladimir Putin. "Had we communicated those things, there´s always

I liked her because she was a free spirit, and a survivor, going out for two, three, even five days, in all seasons. She’d show up when it suited her, waiting in the dark before dawn till I came downstairs and turned on my desk lamp. A few weeks ago, I wrote about how the sweeping acceptance of gay marriage in recent years is owed in large part to Christianity. Rejecting the rigidly hierarchical and stratified societies of the ancient world, Jesus Christ taught the equal dignity of all persons, proclaimed that the meek shall inherit the earth, and declared that the last shall be first and the first shall be last. The Western world has been working out the logic of these subversive teachings ever since, with the institutional transformation of marriage being the latest, though surely not the last, example of its social, moral,

First lady Michelle Obama told students that freedom of speech should be a universal right during her extravagant, no-press-allowed tour of China — a hypocritical move that will surely draw the ire of critics, according to an expert. “That is troublesome. That goes beyond hypocritical, and I think the American media and the international media has every right to call her and the Obama administration on that — that they permitted that to happen,” said Tom Whalen, a political history professor at Boston University. “It makes you shake your head, albeit sadly.” The first lady stopped at Peking University in Beijing yesterday

In a constituent meeting gone awry that was captured on shaky, amateur video, embattled Rep.
