Rutherford shared rooms with assistant
Chicago Tribune, by John Chase & Monique Garcia

Original Article

State Treasurer Dan Rutherford routinely roomed overnight in hotels and a Chicago apartment with a low-level treasurer´s office employee whom he has given a 50 percent pay hike, raising questions about the workplace judgment of the Republican candidate for governor. Rutherford said he has shared a room with his executive assistant, Joshua Lanning, scores of times since taking office in 2011, a practice he says is a way to save money for his campaign fund. "We double-bunk in the campaign," Rutherford said. "We always double-bunk when we can. Totally as a cost-saving measure." Several human resources experts said superiors should avoid sharing a

The purpose of the article is what, to suggest Rutherford is gay? According to the Dems, media and Hollywood, gay is good, right?

I couldn´t figure this one out either, #1. If the allegations against him by the former employee are correct, one may infer that he is ´playing for the other team´, and Mr Lanning ´earned´ his 50% raise that way. All rampant speculation, of course.

I would pay $170 just to stay away from this guy!

There is a sexual harassment lawsuit just filed a couple of days ago. The "harassed" is a male, not the one mentioned in the Tribune article.

Rutherford has somewhat implied that Bruce Rauner, a Republican candidate for Governor with heavy Chicago ties, is behind the smear campaign.

Rauner has already used millions of his own money in this Primary campaign. If this can be tied to Rauner, it may backfire and push Bill Brady to the forefront in the race once again.

Fresh criticism of a Senate bill to extend a lapsed unemployment insurance program has all but killed the chances that it will become law just a week after a compromise deal on the issue raised its prospects for the first time in months. Before the Senate left town last week, 10 senators reached a compromise to reauthorize the Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) program for five months, in addition to retroactively paying benefits that expired on Dec. 28. The bill was fully paid for and would introduce reforms to the program including ending payments to wealthy individuals and giving more individualized

As I sat down, I was bombarded by John Phillip Sousa IV and Wild Bill in a campaign ad explaining why Dr. Ben Carson is the “only candidate” who could win against Hillary Clinton in 2016: He’s not a politician, he’s a citizen statesman… studies show that if Dr. Carson could capture only 17 percent of the black vote, it will be mathematically impossible for Hillary to win the White House…we need to elect a man after the heart

What could Vladimir Putin’s seizure of Crimea possibly have to do with the upcoming midterm elections in the United States? Indirectly, a very great deal. But only indirectly. It has become the most conventional of conventional wisdoms that American voters have tired of controversies beyond our shores, like Crimea. They want to focus on problems at home, not to get involved in what a notable figure of the 1930s described in a different context as “a quarrel in a faraway country between people of whom we know nothing.” This opinion is supported by an undeniable sea-change in the nation’s attitude toward military

GIG HARBOR, Wash.— The penitentiary here holds more souls than it was ever designed for. Some of the residents are loud and "mouthy," needing lots of one-on-one attention; a few just can´t keep still. Others just want a good tummy rub. Home to female offenders, including murderers, Gig Harbor is one of several prisons across the country that welcome dogs with a bad rap. The Washington Corrections Center for Women here pioneered the concept of matching abandoned, abused and neglected dogs with offenders, many of whom come from backgrounds almost as dire. Launched in 1981, the program has blossomed into a plethora of nonprofits

For $1.9 million, you could be the proud owner of a 7,240-square-foot, five-bedroom renovated 1920s home in one of Boulder, Colorado’s most desirable neighborhoods. The catch? The basement of this dream home is where six-year-old beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey was found dead in 1996. Still interested? If Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg had followed advice from male law professors like me, she would probably not be where she is today. Her entire career has involved defying expectations and forcing her way into places where she did not “belong”—Harvard Law School, when it was a frankly hostile male enclave; the professoriate, when it also scorned female scholars; the docket of the Supreme Court, at a time when the courts did not recognize sex discrimination as a problem. Now that she is on the Court, she’s being told she doesn’t belong there any more. I doubt she’s paying attention. These reflections are

When conservatives argue that an overbearing regulatory state suppresses hiring and investment, doubtful liberals often say: Show us an example. Please meet the growers in Marion County, Oregon. In late July 2012, officials from the Department of Labor´s Wage and Hour Division visited Pan-American Berry Growers, B&G Ditchen and E&S Farms for spot inspections. Nothing out of the ordinary here. Labor enforces federal minimum-wage and child-labor laws and often conducts surprise investigations of farms, inspects payroll records and interviews workers. The Oregon growers didn´t think they had reason to worry. Labor had never sanctioned them. They also kept good payroll records and
