New study adds to evidence that
mammograms do not save lives

Reuters, by Sharon Begley

New York - A new study has added to growing evidence that yearly mammogram screenings do not reduce the chance that a woman will die of breast cancer and confirms earlier findings that many abnormalities detected by these X-rays would never have proved fatal, even if untreated. The research, published on Wednesday in the British Medical Journal, is the latest salvo in a decades-long debate over the benefit of mammograms. The 25-year study of 89,835 women in Canada, aged 40 to 59, randomly assigned the volunteers to receive either annual mammograms plus physical breast exams or physical exams alone.

Comments:
Mammogram screenings studies are going against what women had heard for more than a generation as they listened to then breast cancer survivors like Shirley temple Booth. While this is a study outside of US, it will fuel the death panels choices of 0bamacare.

The left´s upcoming war on mammograms flies in the face of them caring about women´s issues so much. They´re going to be phased out of Obamacare in the next few years if you´re under 50 and at some point you won´t even be allowed to pay for one yourself.

I don´t think there´s any issue women are as touchy about or fear more than breast cancer. But as always, ignorance is the left´s best friend.

Breast cancer is one of the LEADING causes of death in women. ANYTHING that can detect that cancer at a curable state is worth doing.

The word "study", when used as a noun, seems to be a word that indicates lies are about to be told. We see it all the time.
If you go to school to study, that´s good. If you change your behavior based on a study, that´s bad.
There. I decoded more liberalspeak.

I sit here today likely ONLY because I had a mammogram that caught my cancer.
This is a sickening attempt by liberals to set in motion justification to deny insurance benefits for this procedure--so they can redistribute the money to pay for sex change or abortion or other "elective" surgery for the chosen few.

First question you have to ask is why do they now not save lives when presumeably they used to? Women haven´t changed & breast cancer haven´t changed in the short time between current & earlier studies. So, you have to conclude that the conclusions & recommendations themselves change according perceived social good; then it was pushing for no limits on women health funding, now it is rationing health care dollars as socialized medicine collapse under its own budgetary burden. Which study reflects the truth?

All I can say is the studies are likely biased towards what their sponsors´ biases are.

I believe this is about the Independent Payment Advisory Board (aka Death Panel) sometime in the future refusing to authorize mammograms as a cost saving measure. So the minions in the MSM trumpet that mammograms are not effective.

A little over two years ago my wife had her yearly mammogram. A spot was seen in her right breast and a biopsy was requested. Result: a bile duct tumor. It was cancerous but it was found early so the best treatment was a lumpectomy. Because of the early diagnosis, chemo was not needed. She did have 5 weeks of radiaion but only for 30 seconds per treatment. A self examination would not have found the tumor as quickly as the mammogram did.In my opinion, MAMMOGRAMS DO SAVE LIVES. My wife is living proof.

I like how they casually throw out the term "many won´t die" as if it acceptable that some will.

Using their logic, you shouldn´t get x-rays for broken bones in limbs becuase most will not die from their injuries.

Sorry guys but you seem to be totally misreading this story. A similar study, from Sweden I think, several years ago (and they had no stake in O-care) came to the same conclusion. What it says is that while cancers can be detected at an early stage with mammograms the ultimate outcome is no better than for cancers detected later, say by finding a lump. It is looking at mortality results and finding that mammograms are no more likely to prevent death from breast cancer than later detection and treatment.

My naturopathic MD uses thermage imaging to detect abnormalities. The machine detects hot spots in the body without radiation or the pain of a mammogram, It´s costs about $85.00 a full body scan. Since it is cheap it is not standard diagnosis protocol.

Preventive medicine is a scam, and mammograms are a part of it. These studies have popped up over the years, and are put down the memory hole. The whole thing is about creating business for the healthcare business to finance all the equipment it bought and operates, and insurance companies are happy to oblige because it is not insurance pooling risk, but pre-paid services that pools the cost, hoping many will not take advantage. And that´s long before Obamacare. Yes, some are "saved", but the truth is not as many as advertised by the purveyors or the media scaremongers. Every good cause eventually becomes a racket.

One thing they´ll never tell you is the way cancerous changes in the breast tissue are triggered by disruptions in the normal female hormone cycle.

All of the hormonal contraceptives --- pill, patch, implant, injection --- disorder the normal cycle. Most dangerous of all, the first-trimester termination of the first pregnancy deranges women´s hormones bigtime, significantly increasing the vulnerability o breast tissue to cancerous changes.

Look into it...

Cairo - An Egyptian court has sentenced 529 people to death in the largest capital punishment case on record in Egypt, judicial authorities said Monday. The alleged supporters of ousted Islamist president Mohamed Morsi were convicted on charges of killing a single police officer, the attempted murder of two other officers, and attacking a police station in the Nile Valley city of Minya in August. Sixteen people were acquitted. The mass sentencing underscored the severity of an ongoing campaign by Egypt’s military-backed leaders to silence opposition, eight months after a military coup ousted Morsi, the country’s first democratically elected

“Ban Bossy,” a new feminist campaign started by Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg, uses ancient surveys and misleading facts to claim the word “bossy” hurts girls. And, as you might expect, the claims don’t support the campaign’s mission. Claim 1: “By middle school, girls are 25 percent less likely than boys to say they like taking the lead.” This study was conducted between 1992 and 1997, so it´s already out of date. The study found when students were asked if they “like to take the lead when a group does things together” 72 percent of sixth-grade boys reported yes, versus 54 percent of sixth-grade girls.

The April 2010 spill occurred when tuna were in the area to spawn. Millions of embryos were affected at the most sensitive time of life, when they are so fragile it is possible to see through them.

Rejecting the rigidly hierarchical and stratified societies of the ancient world, Jesus Christ taught the equal dignity of all persons, proclaimed that the meek shall inherit the earth, and declared that the last shall be first and the first shall be last. The Western world has been working out the logic of these subversive teachings ever since, with the institutional transformation of marriage being the latest, though surely not the last, example of its social, moral,
