Israel at a Point of No Return —

I should like to advance a conjecture which I lack the qualifications to adequately develop: The global Left, and the Israeli Left most of all, perceives that the clock is running out, and has worked itself up into a froth of hysteria against Israel. The world of John Lennon’s “Imagine,” where there are no countries and no religions, is about to dissipate like last night’s marijuana fumes. The demographic time bomb that worries the Left is not the relative increase of Arab vs. Jewish populations between the Mediterranean and the Jordan River, speciously cited by John Kerry and a hostof

What a cheering report. Israelis are getting more religious as the rest of the civilized world gets more secular, and the Israeli left is becoming marginalized. I see this in my Israeli relatives, who have become more observant over the years and also less gullible about peace with the Arabs.

I´ve always had the feeling that God wants His chosen people to be good Jews, and until they were He would bring them difficulties. The Jews will never be free of vicious enemies and other difficulties, but in Israel they are flourishing, and I´m sure they will overcome their most dangerous enemies.

Sothy Seang drives to the Donut Hut in east Las Vegas almost every night around 7. He unlocks the door, turns on the lights, starts the fryer and makes hundreds of donuts. He doesn’t leave until after 11 a.m. the next day.(snip) But to Seang, life in Las Vegas is paradise on Earth. Before coming to America, the Cambodian native survived the horrors of Pol Pot, the communist dictator who killed at least 2 million people. Today, he is a gung-ho patriotic American citizen.

In the wake of public tensions between US leaders and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu over several issues in the Middle East, Arutz Sheva Radio has interviewed Professor Moshe Arens. Arens is a former Foreign Minister and Defense Minister who had a difficult time dealing with an uncooperative US administration in the 1980s. Prof. Arens clarifies that the differences between the US and Israel on vital issues - i.e. Israel´s relationship with the Palestinian Authority and the right course of action in stopping a nuclear Iran - are important not only in an Israeli context, but also in an American political

Calling the case “an incredibly criminal, intentional act,” a federal judge on Monday sentenced fallen Nevada power broker Harvey Whittemore to two years in prison and fined the former multimillionaire $100,000 for using family and employees to make illegal campaign contributions to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. The announcement came at the end of a six-hour sentencing hearing that included an emotional statement from the 61-year-old Whittemore, an ex-lobbyist and wealthy land developer, in which he said he accepted full responsibility, was sorry and ashamed of his actions, and begged U.S. District Judge Larry Hicks for mercy.

Staff has split headline.

National union leaders criticized President Barack Obama’s signature health care law in a scathing letter sent earlier this month to Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., and Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. The signatories lambasted the law for “perverse incentives” that are already creating “nightmare scenarios” that could “destroy the foundation of the 40-hour workweek.” Largely seen as allies to the Democratic president, union leaders from the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, the United Food and Commercial Workers, and UNITE Here went public with concerns that could affect all workers, not just unionized employees.

In a letter dated Friday, an executive from ENN Mojave Energy LLC informed the county that the company was terminating its agreement to purchase 9,000 acres near Laughlin, stating that the “market will not support a project of this scale and nature at this time.”

Harvey Whittemore, once the most powerful lobbyist in Nevada and the head of a billion-dollar development company, was convicted Wednesday of using family and employees to funnel illegal campaign contributions to U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in 2007. Whittemore, 59, could face a combined maximum sentence of 15 years in prison and $750,000 in fines on the three felony charges. U.S. District Judge Larry Hicks sent sentencing for Sept. 23. Whittemore´s lawyer Dominic Gentile said he will argue for probation, adding that similar cases had resulted in non-prison punishments, and then appeal the case.

Even for Nevadans, who have in recent years seen a governor accused of assaulting a cocktail waitress and a senator acknowledge a career-ending affair with his best friend’s wife, the latest spectacle is still riveting. The slow, public hara-kiri of one Steven Brooks has unprecedented elements—and that’s saying something for Nevada. The story of the Democratic assemblyman, arrested and accused of threats to a Democratic speaker after being found with a .357 revolver and 41 rounds in a shoebox in his trunk, has transfixed a state where politics inhabit a spectrum from weird to outrageous.

WASHINGTON, D.C., February 17, 2014 – President Barack Obama has elevated the right to have sex with a member of the same sex to the level of universal “fundamental freedoms” in a new presidential statement criticizing Uganda. But critics say his promotion of homosexuality in a continent that overwhelmingly opposes that behavior amounts to a form of liberal “cultural imperialism.” Obama wrote on Sunday that he opposed a proposed bill in Uganda that would criminalize same-sex “marriages” and impose life imprisonment for repeated homosexual acts, among other provisions, because “as a country and a people, the United States has consistently

Foreign Policy: John Kerry calls global warming "the world´s most fearsome weapon of mass destruction." Has the secretary of state forgotten the world´s real WMDs? Or is he just off his medication? There´s a long list of Cabinet secretaries and senior aides to President Obama who have failed the nation so resoundingly they should be shown the door. But Secretary John Kerry, who dumped his military decorations in 1971 and was dumped by voters as a presidential candidate in 2004, should definitely be the first one out. Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnel (R-Ky.) are now in position to end the Tea Party’s death grip on the Republican Party’s political future. Last week, Boehner and McConnell faced down the Tea Party’s threat to cripple the government when they supported raising the nation’s debt ceiling. That move prevented GOP political suicide. If the nation’s credit rating, stocks and the recovery went down the sewer because of Republicans’ refusal to raise the debt ceiling, the GOP’s chances in the midterm elections would have been severely damaged. Having successfully defied the Tea Party on the debt ceiling, now

Raising the minimum wage to $10.10 by 2016 will help "people who just want to work hard," but it also will help those who want to "work less," White House economic adviser Gene Sperling told MSNBC´s "Morning Joe" on Wednesday. He argued that Americans support raising the minimum wage because it will lift "struggling" families out of poverty: "But they also know what it´s like to see a friend, a neighbor, where one spouse goes back to work, who would prefer maybe not to work. Maybe they´re working part-time just to supplement the family´s income. And they think, if that

Barack Obama has penned a handwritten apology to an angry professor after suggesting that learning a trade would be a better career choice than studying for an art history degree. During a speech at a General Electric plant in Wisconsin, the President said that ´folks can make a lot more potentially with skilled manufacturing or the trades than they might with an art history degree.´ He was inundated with letters from art historians and journalists all furious at his remarks - but one professor´s comments caught his eye - and he sent a handwritten apology to her.
