Linda Greenhouse´s Phony Stories
National Review, by Ramesh Ponnuru

Original Article

New York Times legal writer Linda Greenhouse recently presented her take on two cases before the Supreme Court. (I ran into it via an approving comment by Isaac Chotiner at The New Republic.) In this post, I’ll examine what she says about the Little Sisters of the Poor case. The nuns are apparently exhibiting “sustained aggressiveness” in asserting “a claim by religion for primacy in the public square.” She says that the Obama administration is not actually imposing any burden on the nuns’ consciences, and so she can’t understand why “the Supreme Court—all nine justices—appears to have fallen for [the

Remember Linda from her days of PBS News Hour.

She always reminded me of my typical old maid elementry school teacher of the late 1930´s.

Sour, hateful, cruel and resented all the pretty girls because she was ugly. She favored the fat or skinny ugly girs.

Even her cloths reminds me of their old maid dress of their day.

The Little Sisters and "sustained aggressiveness?" She may have something there...they don´t do the Lord´s work without tenacity, faith and dedication. When they collected money at Mass, they had the 2nd collection and still manned each door on the way out to get a bit more. Smiling all the way. They can take this administration on...no problem.

As I recall, Linda Greenhouse doesn´t have a law degree. She has always written from a leftwing point of view, and her legal analysis is often wrong. Her take on the Bush v. Gore case was so wrong, legally, that I never read her again.

Poor little public square, sitting there minding its own business, and along comes the "schoolyard bully," the Little Sisters of the Poor, with their "sustained aggressiveness," pushing it around.

Greenhouse is psychotic.

The Little Sisters are not going to buckle.

One of the first things the good sisters taught us was how to write. Writing was practiced by writing quotations that meant something, over and over.

The idea of a conscience is inconceivable to those who do not possess one, so too is the concept of complicity in sin.

Our country has managed for 238 years to recognize the right of conscience and religious liberty without adversely impacting the enforcement of any law. IIRC, the rights of "conscientious objectors" against the Vietnam War was sacrosanct. Hypocrisy thy name is communist.

As part of its plan to reduce U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, the Obama administration is targeting the dairy industry to reduce methane emissions in their operations. This comes despite falling methane emission levels across the economy since 1990. The White House has proposed cutting methane emissions from the dairy industry by 25 percent by 2020. Although U.S. agriculture only accounts for about 9 percent of the country’s greenhouse gas emissions, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, it makes up a sizeable portion of methane emissions — which is a very potent greenhouse gas. Some of these methane emissions come from

U.S. Solicitor General Donald Verrilli told the Supreme Court on Tuesday that the First Amendment right to the free exercise of religion and the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA)—which Congress enacted to guide the Executive Branch and courts in defending that right—would not directly protect kosher or halal meat-processing corporations from a hypothetical federal rule that by generally banning certain meat-processing practices effectively banned kosher and halal meat processing by incorporated businesses. Verrilli told the court that the customers of a kosher or halal meat-processing company--not the company itself--would have cause to sue in such a situation. But he did

Previously, as many as one in 88 US children were known to have autism spectrum disorder, or ASD, a developmental disorder that recent research suggests may originate in the womb. Sometime before June, if things go true to form, President Obama is going to issue a warning to the Supreme Court to look after its reputation and refrain from outlawing the birth-control mandate of ObamaCare. He tried that stunt the last time ObamaCare was before the Nine, and Chief Justice Roberts switched his vote. Was the chief justice afraid? That is the word I keep thinking of. It is the word at the heart of perhaps the most famous utterance on religious freedom in American history — George Washington’s letter to the Jews. Our first president sent it in 1790,

The arts-and-crafts retailer Hobby Lobby has challenged the mandate, saying it violates the religious beliefs of its controlling shareholders, while the Obama administration argues a federal law that protects such beliefs doesn’t apply to shareholder corporations. Okay, THAT was certainly embarrassing. At the end of a joint news conference with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte in the Netherlands on Tuesday, the applause for Barack Obama came from a grand total of one guy. One. On Tuesday night two things happened. 1. A trio of Secret Service agents were sent home from Amsterdam after one was found passed out drunk in a hotel hallway. 2. The Obama Administration announced (another) extension of the enrollment deadline for Obamacare signups. At first glance, these two events have little in common with one another. But, modern politics is all about narratives and storylines. And, both of these events confirm a growing concern from the public about President Obama: That he´s just not up to governing his administration and, by extension, the country, effectively.

One by one, the myths of the Affordable Care Act have been revealed. When the curtain on open enrollment falls on March 31, the last remaining big myth of ObamaCare will be fully exposed: The individual mandate has failed. After a last-ditch effort with President Obama himself encouraging "young invincibles" to sign up before the deadline, the administration is scrambling to boost enrollment. On Tuesday, the White House announced that people who applied for coverage on the federal health-insurance exchange will have until mid-April to finish the paperwork. When Jorge Mario Bergoglio became Pope Francis a little more than a year ago, the first thing that struck those who knew him well was his unexpected, beatific smile. “In Argentina, he didn’t smile like that,” Sergio Rubin, the pope’s biographer, said this week at a conference sponsored by the Ethics and Public Policy Center. “That was the big surprise.” Since then, the pope has mostly kept on smiling — in homilies, in audiences, in meetings with the homeless and the poor. If you look at the pictures from Francis’ meeting with President Obama on Thursday, though, the smile is there only some of the time.
