Are State Exchanges
Going Bankrupt?

Investor´s Business Daily, by IBD Staff

Cost Curve: A little-noticed problem is fast emerging in states that decided to set up their own ObamaCare exchanges. Many of them face financial crises once the federal grant money runs out. After taking nearly $4 billion in federal grants to set up and run their exchanges this year, 14 states and the District of Columbia are supposed to be self-sufficient by next year. At least that´s what the ObamaCare statute says (which these days doesn´t mean much). But from the looks of it, many are heading into a fiscal brick wall. California, for example, is supposed to be a big ObamaCare success

Only libtards would think such a ludicrous plan would work. It´s like ignoring gravity, stepping out of a plane w/o a parachute, and expecting not to fall or die. Most people call that insanity. We call it democrats.

The state exchanges are still hoping that will continue to see enrollments at the level they saw in early Jan. The back end of Obamacare still isn´t fixed and the number of people coming in the front end has dwindled to a trickle. This leads to bankruptcy.

Never mind the state exchanges, a group in this state received over $12 million to "promote" Ocare.

Bias: How much abuse will the mainstream media take before they stand up for themselves? When the abuse comes from the Obama administration, their tolerance appears to be unlimited. This week, for example, two things happened that should have sent reporters into a frenzy of outrage. First, there were reports that the Obama administration has effectively crippled the Freedom of Information Act, despite Obama´s promise of unequaled transparency. Nearly half the federal agencies got an F grade for FOIA compliance, according to a Center for Effective Government report. And Cause of Action discovered that the administration had created a new FOIA exemption,

Why Is the ObamaCare Mandate So Toothless?

Health Care: Some think Democrats designed ObamaCare to fail so they could get to a single payer system. Seems a bit extreme. But it does help explain why they made the individual mandate so easy to avoid. According to ObamaCare´s architects, the individual mandate is key to making the law work. The mandate is supposed to force young and healthy people to enroll so they can subsidize premiums for the older and sicker. Otherwise, ObamaCare rates will spiral out of control. (Which already appears to be happening, according to TheHill.com.) The mandate is also supposed to prevent gaming the system — wherein people

President Obama gave a speech recently in which he, as he almost always does, patted himself on the back for what he described as a solid record on the economy. "We´ve now seen over four years of economic growth," he said. "We´ve seen 8.5 million new jobs created. We´ve seen the housing market bounce back. We´ve seen an auto industry that has come roaring back. We´ve seen manufacturing return for the first time since the 1990s." Obamaphiles in the press typically repeat these claims, arguing that, given the mess he inherited, no one could have done any better. But is that true? And

Another ObamaCare

Health Care: The administration issued new rules last week to spare President Obama more political damage from his phony "keep your doctor" promise. But in so doing, they´ve set in motion another ObamaCare rate shock. Soon after enrolling in ObamaCare, many people discovered the high cost of believing Obama´s promises. Not only were millions required to change plans, but many learned that their "new-and-improved" ObamaCare plans forced them to give up their doctors and hospitals, too. Turns out that insurers — desperate to keep premiums as low as they could in the face of ObamaCare´s costly benefit mandates, taxes and

Health Care: ObamaCare is turning out like the nine-headed Hydra monster of Greek mythology. Every time President Obama tries to lop off one of its failures, two more emerge. Recent news provides a good case in point. On Wednesday, Obama decreed that those who had plans they liked before ObamaCare could keep them for two more years. The move helped solve a huge political problem Obama himself created when he first made it possible for some people to keep plans they liked. Obama had allowed just a one-year extension — where he gets the authority to do any of this is beyond us

Economy: When not making excuses for President Obama´s dismal economic record, liberals try to explain away Texas´ stellar growth. But what choice do they have? The Lone Star State proves limited government works. After Gov. Rick Perry entered the presidential primaries in 2011, the left made a determined effort to dismiss the fact that his state had outperformed the rest of the country. Economist and New York Times columnist Paul Krugman called it the "Texas Unmiracle." Time magazine dismissed Texas´ burgeoning growth as mere luck. Others chimed in along the same lines, insisting that low taxes, limited government spending and a business-friendly

To say that President Obama is not an enthusiastic backer of the two Medicare programs that offer seniors private insurance options would be something of an understatement. Over the years, Obama has repeatedly derided Medicare Advantage — the program that lets seniors enroll in subsidized, private insurance. He once called it "wasteful," and said it amounted to "giveaways that boost insurance company profits but don´t make (seniors) any healthier." Obama has been equally harsh when it comes to Medicare Part D — the drug benefit President Bush signed into law that relies on privately run plans. In his 2006 book,

Less than half the public support a sharp boost in the minimum wage when told that it could cost the economy half a million jobs, according to the latest IBD/TIPP Poll out Thursday. That comes amid reports that some Senate Democrats are backing away from President Obama´s push to boost the minimum wage by 39% over the next two years, to $10.10 an hour, after the Congressional Budget Office found that it would kill 500,000 jobs. Unlike other surveys, the IBD/TIPP Poll asked two questions about the minimum wage. The first simply asked, "Do you support or oppose raising the federal minimum

Cross off another ObamaCare promise. The report came from the actuary for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services — which means it´s from the administration´s official ObamaCare number cruncher. What it found was that 65% of small businesses that offer insurance will likely see their premiums rise thanks to ObamaCare. That translates into higher insurance costs for 11 million workers. If you´re the president, you call it "safe," "reliable," "green" and worthy of massive taxpayer subsidies. That, at least, is the case with the Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating Station that covers a vast area of desert outside Las Vegas and, thanks to the generous support of the Obama administration, has officially opened. Economy: Food and energy prices are rising, wages are flat and the top concern among Americans is unemployment. What was that word coined in the ´70s to describe a stagnant economy suffering inflationary pressures? Since the Obama "recovery" started 4-1/2 years ago, inflation appears to have been relatively tame, with core prices climbing just 7% from June 2009 to December 2013. But as CBS News discovered when it looked a little closer, the overall number is deceptive. In fact, it found food prices soaring. The official inflation data confirm this. Overall, food prices are up 9% since June 2009, according to the Bureau

After a disastrous presidential campaign in 2012, can Texas Governor Rick Perry mount a credible bid for the White House in 2016? Texas Governor Rick Perry is currently on a media tour touting the theme that America is a great place for second chances, specifically second chances for Texas governors with national ambitions. Perry is trying to erase the memory of his disastrous 2012 GOP presidential campaign which included “brain-farts” and “oops” debate moments with his folksy, charming, and uniquely American manner. Curious about Perry’s comeback strategy, I asked Texan and GOP presidential media guru, Mark McKinnon and he said,

As part of its plan to reduce U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, the Obama administration is targeting the dairy industry to reduce methane emissions in their operations. This comes despite falling methane emission levels across the economy since 1990. The White House has proposed cutting methane emissions from the dairy industry by 25 percent by 2020. Although U.S. agriculture only accounts for about 9 percent of the country’s greenhouse gas emissions, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, it makes up a sizeable portion of methane emissions — which is a very potent greenhouse gas. Some of these methane emissions come from

A startling rift appeared Tuesday on the Supreme Court as the three female Justices came out swinging like Brunnhildes — women warriors — for what they erroneously labeled an “entitlement” to employer-provided contraceptives and morning-after pills. The Justices were hearing oral arguments in Sebelius v. Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc., a case hyped by the Democratic Party as a test for women’s rights. Justices Kagan, Ginsberg, and Sotomayor sprang on Hobby Lobby’s attorney , interrupting his every sentence and pummeling him with questions taken right out of the Democratic Party’s “war on women” playbook. Incidentally, Maraniss was telling the truth: Ann´s "days in Seattle" weren´t mentioned in Dreams from my Father and were only vaguely implied in Maraniss´s lengthy 2008 article. With high school seniors and their families now deciding where to enroll for college next fall, they might want to take a gander at research showing the best -- and worst -- values for a degree. The shocker in a survey by PayScale, a research firm that focuses on compensation, is that there are schools where students would have been better off not attending. Why? The 20-year net return on their college investment amounts to a financial loss, even when financial aid is included. Taking the time to get and spend money on a degree, in short, means you might actually find yourself in a financial hole. The survey may add to parents' doubts about
