Treasury: Employers must “self-attest”

Old and busted: Businesses will love ObamaCare for its cost savings in health care! New hotness: Businesses had better not make staffing decisions based on cost savings from ObamaCare-fueled price spikes! After its latest delay in implementing the employer mandate, the Obama administration rebuffed criticisms that the law incentivizes employers to shift to part-time work by announcing the Treasury Inquisition — ahem, excuse me, the Treasury Attestation Department: The latest announcement comes after the administration heard from businesses about their concerns with the looming ObamaCare rules. However, the change is sure to raise more questions about the health and implementation of

Comments:
IRS doesn´t have the authority to require such an oath. But, that doesn´t seem to bother the administration.

Business should get together and file a class action lawsuit against Holder and his overreach. If they let him get away with this, just imagine what other illegal actions he will impose.

A senior Russian defense official has announced that Moscow is looking to build military bases throughout different countries in Asia and the Western Hemisphere. According to RIA Novosti, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said Russia is looking to build military bases in Vietnam, Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, the Seychelles, Singapore and several other countries. “The talks are under way, and we are close to signing the relevant documents,” Shoigu said, according to RIA Novosti. The newspaper noted that “Moscow currently has only one naval base outside the former Soviet Union – in Tartus, Syria, but the fate of this naval facility is uncertain

President Barack Obama fired a few verbs across the front armor of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s tanks, in a rushed statement just after 5 p.m. on Friday. The statement was made as Russian forces — including attack helicopters — appeared in peripheral parts of the Ukraine that are largely populated by ethnic Russians. There’s no evidence that Obama wants to get involved in what may become a war between the Ukraine and Russia. He did not threaten any significant retaliation if Russian force attack nor did he offer military aid to the Ukraine. He announced that Vice President Joe Biden — but not

The winds on San Francisco Bay started kicking up in the late morning. Before long, they were blowing more than 20 miles an hour. Jimmy Spithill and his 10 teammates put on their crash helmets and flotation vests and climbed aboard the AC72, a menacing, 13-story black catamaran capable of near-highway speeds. As a powerboat pulled them into the bay for Race 5 of the 2013 America´s Cup, Mr. Spithill shot a glance at the Golden Gate Bridge. It was shrouded in fog. An unfamiliar, uncomfortable feeling was tugging at him. Mr. Spithill, skipper of Oracle Team USA, the richest

Five months ago, when he was clearing the decks for his quixotic U.S. Senate campaign, Texas Rep. Steve Stockman parted ways with his campaign treasurer. Jason Posey, who´d worked with Stockman since his first stint in Congress (1995 to 1997), had filed a false report, disguising his own donation (and that of a colleague, also working for Stockman), crediting it to a relative. Posey was out. But he didn´t vanish completely. Two months before leaving the Stockman camapign, Posey had incorporated a new group called the Center for the American Future. Once upon a time we had the House Un-American Activities Committee. Most people, certainly most Democrats, would call that an ugly chapter in our history. But those who were called “un-American” during the 1950s were (or were believed to be) traitors in the pay of a hostile power. Calling them “un-American” was not such a stretch. Since then, the term has gone entirely out of fashion. Can you imagine the howls of outrage if President Bush had called those who disagreed with his Iraq policy “un-American”? But now, suddenly, it is back: Harry Reid, one of the country’s top three Democrats,

Just before the bankruptcy of the Mt. For weeks and weeks I have been tweeting and broadcasting that bitcoin is not real money. It is not a reliable medium of exchange, nor is it a reliable store of value. It has no central-bank regulation, network operations, or even centralized issuance. And because of its wild price fluctuations, bitcoin can never be a

Release of the 2014 Pentagon budget should have been an epiphany for America´s allies and enemies. It continued the process of reducing America´s military to pre-World War II size, but -- as we can infer from the remarks of Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel -- there´s some sort of strategic realignment close at hand. Inklings of that realignment were detected before Hagel made his announcement. When President Obama warned Russian President Vladimir Putin that he shouldn´t invade Ukraine, there was a faint echo of the “red line” he drew for Putin in Syria. The Russian strongman probably smiled at Obama’s warning, remembering

The Sicilian mafia wanted Rudy Giuliani to sleep with the fishes. Crime boss Salvatore “Toto” Riina ordered the hit on Giuliani back in the 1980s when the future New York City mayor was a mob-busting federal prosecutor, Italian newspapers are reporting. The source of that story is mafia turncoat Rosario Naimo, who spilled his secrets this week to Palermo-based prosecutors. Naimo said Riina was alarmed that Giuliani was joining forces with Sicily-based prosecutors like the legendary Giovanni Falcone, the papers reported. So Riina dispatched Naimo to New York City and told him to get the okay from the Gambino crime family to rub

In the aftermath of the abominable media coverage of Arizona’s religious liberty bill, an editor shared his hypothesis that journalists care about freedom of speech and of the press because they practice them. And journalists don’t care about freedom of religion because they don’t. But one of the most interesting things about modern media’s deep hostility toward the religious, their religions, and religious liberty in general is that press freedom in America is rooted in religion. The John Peter Zenger case of 1735, argued successfully by Andrew Hamilton, wasn’t just an important legal event but an important symbolic event

Stop underestimating the crackpot ideas the race-left will cook up. The latest in-fashion example of America’s structural racism is the criminal background check. The complaint goes like this. Racists who are looking for ways to engage in employment discrimination against blacks can use criminal background checks in hiring. Since blacks have been convicted of crimes in greater percentages than their population generally, using a background check is a stealth way to discriminate against blacks. Stop laughing. Consider how many nutty ideas you laughed at decades ago which are now the status quo. While you were busy laughing,

My mistake. I thought the White House might try to make all of this go away by accepting Putin’s phony pretense that it’s a domestic uprising among ethnic Russians in Crimea, not an invasion by Russia. In fact, says the White House, there is a foreign element to the new troop presence — but it’s all good so far because Crimea isn’t resisting. In other words, to save face over the fact that there’s nothing much we can do to stop this, the official U.S. line is that this can’t be an invasion if the Russians are being … greeted as liberators. Joint Special Operations Command launched four Hellfire missiles into a convoy in central Yemen in December, killing 12 people. U.S. officials initially claimed they were targeting Shawqi Ali Ahmad al-Badani, an alleged Qaida operative, and even Human Rights Watch acknowledged that some terrorists may have been present. (Snip)Rogers and some other critics say the president may even be in denial about the ongoing reality of the war, perhaps because he´s a little too eager to "complete his narrative" about decimating al-Qaida.
