Republicans Dodge Debt Ceiling Disaster
Commentary Magazine, by Jonathan S. Tobin

Original Article

Posted By:Pluperfect, 2/11/2014 3:01:03 PM

When House Speaker John Boehner told a shocked Republican caucus this morning that he would allow a vote on raising the debt ceiling with no strings attached, it was seen in some quarters as a defeat for the GOP. And, in many ways, it was. (Snip)But rather than mourning Boehner’s decision, Republicans should be celebrating. A partisan confrontation over the debt ceiling—even one in which Republicans tie support for the increase to sensible spending cuts or a popular measure aimed at helping veterans—would have turned into a repeat of last fall’s political melodrama that ended so badly for the GOP.

Thankfully, they did this before the primaries. Now we find some representatives that will represent us instead of special interests,

It would be nice if some amendments were offered and then the clean version were voted down. That would signal a new speaker in 2015.

The Pubbies aren´t good for much - - but the one thing they´re champions at is financing the welfare state.

Whenever the demonrats get in a spending hole - - the Pubbies are always there to bail them out.

Beautiful symbiosis - - the ´rats spend - - the Pubbies tax and borrow.

Like the settled science of global warming, the Debt Ceiling Disaster is another settled science, according to the experts, and just as far off base as the global warming mantra.

Ted Cruz who´s the ´villain´ in the government shut down, is the most popular republican in the Senate, and House among the people whom count . . . the voters. So it wasn´t a disaster for him. The disaster is coming to the republicans whom did not support Cruz, and whom are caving on this latest debt ceiling surrender.

It appears the odds are against Boehner surviving the upcoming primary.

Because the Republicans are in power and have the votes to do away with all of this spending? What on earth makes you think Harry Reid would let anything the Republicans put together go for a vote? Some of you must live in a different world than I do. I don´t understand the comments and don´t want to.

Boehner is a moron.

The House can pass anything it wants to and the Senate can reject it as long as they want to. The fact remains. The House controls the money. If we had any leaders in the House, Reid would look like a fool for not voting on the House bill that would slash spending, in exchange for a modest debt ceiling increase.

Nobody knows how this will play out but for sure Tobin´s opinion should be taken with a large dose of castor oil. If Boehner is tossed out as Speaker; then something positive will have come of the debt ceiling fandango.

I would hate to live in a world where my biggest fear was falling off the fence. I would hate to live in a world where enabling the enemy was the sane thing to do. Nope, I will take my world and know that I did my best to live the American dream without compromising my beliefs. #6, in this case the Republicans did not need to pass anything. That is the beauty of the debt ceiling debate. The Democrats are the one´s who want to raise the debt ceiling. The Republicans, in theory, don´t. That means the Democrats should have to give something up to get it raised. Unfortunately, the majority of the Republicans in Congress actually wanted to raise the debt ceiling.

Raising the debt ceiling is not about Paying the Bills, it´s the slush fund for more Frivolous spending ideas. Cut off some of those billions of waste, fraud and abuse. It´s the aforemented 3 items which get one deeper and deeper into debt.
obama gave all his Cronies Grants which require no repayment----even to Foreign Corps which to get their paws on funds merely had to say they intended to operate in the US. Next thing one knows, the Corps/companies are bankrupt and guess whose pockets are still full of coins. How about those stupid signs of "YOUR STIMULUS FUNDS AT WORK"----an unnecessary expense, or the purchasing of millions in dollars of signs that say "MARTIAL LAW IN EFFECT". Any guess as to why it was necessary to have those manufactured a couple of years ago? Why were millions of plastic coffins purchase a few years back and Why in the heck is each government agency purchasing so many hollow point bullets? Billions and billions spent. Continuing the billions of purchases to take over the people of the US would also include all the new army vehicles and tanks when the military is being degraded, Who´s going to be using them--obama´s civilian army???????
These expenditures from tax monies are done in conjunction of the RINOs filling their pockets with Insider Trading and congressional pac slush funds and their Dem counter parts. That includes the idiot in the WH.

# 6 You and I.. and the House Republicans live in the real world.
The talk radio crowd tells it´s listeners that Republicans control both Houses of Congress
and have all the power.
Limbaugh said as much today.
He also implied that Republicans voted for Obamacare.
Sigh...
The Cruz shutdown last fall devastated the Republicans.
And for what purpose ?
Obama and the majority Democrat Senate were never going to defund Obamacare.
Facts are stubborn things , but, they´re still facts.
Democrats control the presidency, the Senate 55-45 and almost 47% of the House.
If the Republicans had caused the government to default , besides the awful economic ramifications,
it would have driven the Republican poll numbers into negative territory.
Electing more Republicans to both Houses in 2014 and the presidency in 2016 is the only logical and workable solution.
Unfortunately, right wing talk radio and some blogs prefer to live in fantasyland where what they want should
be the law of the land.
Elections and legislative realities are trivialities.

People are always complaining that there´s nothing but bad news out there, but they´re wrong. Market researchers estimate that U.S. chewing gum sales have fallen 11% in the past four years and that the slide will keep on going. I can think of nothing more inspiring in recent history. Having worked for four summers in a bubble-gum factory while in college—and having never once thought about touching a stick of gum again—I can visualize no substance more disgusting, no habit more repellent, no entity more antithetical to basic human dignity than chewing gum. Happy birthday Wrigley Field, but are you too beautiful of a ballpark? After all, attendance at games is more sensitive to beer prices—much more—than it is to the Cubs’ record. Wrigley Field, the dead-ball-era ballpark wedged into perhaps Chicago’s hippest north-side neighborhood, turns 100 this April. With its ivy-shrouded walls, manually operated scoreboard, and concrete-and-steel edifice, it survives as a monument to architectural beauty and athletic ineptitude.
