Iranian Poet Hanged
Commentary Magazine, by Michael Rubin

Original Article

Posted By:StormCnter, 2/11/2014 11:47:32 AM

Iranian authorities have reportedly hanged Hashem Shaabani, a poet which the regime has accused of being “an enemy of God.” His execution should do more than anything else to provide an opportunity for Secretary of State John Kerry and UN Ambassador Samantha Power to embrace moral clarity, for it does more than anything to show the undeniable cruelty of the Islamic Republic and its murderous ideology. There is a tendency in the State Department—the administration does not matter—to repress discussion of human rights out of fear that to discuss them will risk progress on harder national-security issues like the nuclear deal

Wouldn´t it be nice if religious zealots of all stripes let God deal with such matters himself/herself/itself, and stay the hell out of it. Is God so impotent? Who was it, now, that said that we should render these things unto God? (Rhetorical question)

Hanged a poet, eh? How, in the world, could a poet be viewed as an enemy of God or anyone else? If we continue down this stupid path with Iran then we are guaranteeing that we will have to face them in the years to come- probably in a war in which some very destructive weapons will have to be used. Thinking we can bring Iran around with diplomacy is such foolishness that I cannot believe serious leadership can believe it. Obama and Kerry will pay a terrible price in the history books for the most naive thinking since Neville Chamberlin came back from Munich saying "peace in our time."

"Seven Reasons Why I Should Die"
By Hashem Shaabani

For seven days they shouted at me:
You are waging war on Allah!
Saturday, because you are an Arab!
Sunday, well, you are from Ahvaz
Monday, remember you are Iranian
Tuesday, You mock the sacred Revolution
Wednesday, didn’t you raise your voice for others?
Thursday, you are a poet and a bard
Friday, You’re a man, isn’t that enough to die?

Yes, someday a man must die; that´s an inescapable fact. But poets--at least the best of them, such as Václav Havel--have been called unacknowledged legislators who can with a few well chosen words cause a tsunami in human affairs, making tyrants tremble in their palaces, and eventually fall.

But don´t expect the quisling John F. Kerry to do anything about this atrocity. American displeasure would endanger his precious talks with Khomeini´s successors, our worst enemies in the world, who´d love nothing better than to see us all dead.

For moral issues a society must rely on an omnipotent Higher Being to point out right and wrong. A government has no justification for setting such guidelines other than self satisfaction. Thus, true religious beliefs must be squashed and belief in the state must
be set in its place. Coming to a country near you? Pray.

Juárez police arrested three men early Wednesday for driving around town with the cadaver of a friend who apparently died while being out with them partying. Elián Hernández Palacios, 26; Roberto Israel Muñiz Padroz, 26; and José Ángel Hernández Poblano, 25, face failure to give assistance and bribery charges. According to police, the three men were traveling in a speeding vehicle when they were stopped around 3:45 a.m. at the intersections of Privada Sanders and Ramón Alcázar streets, located in the San Antonio neighborhood, in Downtown Juárez. Two of the men allegedly tried to bribe officers with 800 pesos, or about $60, to

Solipsism. It’s a fancy word which means that you assume others see the world as you do and will behave as you would. It’s a quality often found in narcissists, people who greatly admire themselves — like a presidential candidate confident that he is a better speechwriter than his speechwriters, knows more about policy than his policy directors and is a better political director than his political director. If that sounds familiar, it´s a paraphrase of what President Obama told top political aide Patrick Gaspard in 2008, according to the New Yorker´s Ryan Lizza. More recently, Obama’s solipsism has been painfully apparent as

WASHINGTON — Contract negotiations are stalled for thousands of workers at casinos on the Strip and in downtown Las Vegas to the point where they may go on strike — and the sticking point is Obamacare. On Feb. 20, thousands of housekeepers, porters, cooks, cocktail servers, and others represented by Nevada’s largest union, the Culinary Union Local 226, voted to end a contract extension the workers agreed to last summer. The union wants to maintain its current benefits — including health care coverage at no cost to workers, pensions, and guaranteed 40-hour workweeks. Rising health care costs due to provisions in the

Little by little, year after year, the three family members were able to make off with millions of dollars of merchandise from well-known retailers such as Barnes & Noble and Toys R Us, fencing the thousands of items

A businessman who lost $500,000 on table games at a Las Vegas casino on Super Bowl weekend is arguing that he shouldn´t have to pay because he was blackout drunk. Southern California gambler Mark Johnston, 52, is suing the Downtown Grand for loaning him money and serving him drinks when he was visibly intoxicated. Nevada law bars casinos from allowing obviously drunk patrons to gamble and from serving them comped drinks. Johnston´s attorney, Sean Lyttle, says the Grand, which opened last November in the old part of Las Vegas, intends to pursue Johnston for trying to shirk his gambling debts. Johnston put a

Texas, the nation´s second largest state, held the nation´s first primary yesterday. There were no great surprises in the results: the two governor candidates, Republican Greg Abbott and Democrat Wendy Davis, had no serious opposition, and Republican Sen. John Cornyn and Rep. Pete Sessions were renominated over opponents some labeled Tea Partiers by wide margins. Texas does not have party registration: Any voter can vote in either party´s primary. That means that primary turnout gives some indication of the balance between the parties. Some national Democrats have embarked on a project to “paint Texas blue” -- to make the Democratic party

The Soviets prepared a grand welcome; buildings across from the Kremlin were repainted, streets repaved and trees and flowers planted along the boulevards. The Russian historian Andrei Zubov, for example, has published a sophisticated comparison between Putin´s seizure of Crimea and Adolf Hitler´s annexation of Austria, seeing both as the beginning of a chain of events with fatal consequences not just for the subjects of the aggression but for the aggressors themselves.

President Obama is planning to break the law, once again, in an effort to protect vulnerable Democrats in the Senate. According to news reports, “the White House will announce a new directive allowing insurers to continue offering health plans that do not meet Obamacare’s minimum coverage requirements.” In the absence of this “directive,” health insurance companies would have to cancel millions of health policies just a few weeks before November’s congressional elections. Obama’s edict would theoretically forestall, until after those crucial midterms, a tsunami of voter outrage that would inevitably drown the reelection prospects of many Democrats. It’s not clear, however,

At Chipotle, guacamole costs extra - but it soon may not be available at all thanks to climate change. The Denver, Colorado-based chain of Mexican fast-food restaurants threatened to take the condiment off the menu because of the rising price of avocados. While the avocado crop is currently fine, scientists at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory are predicting drier temperatures will lead to a 40 per cent drop in California´s avocado crop over the next 32 years. Most modern scientists agree that there is a direct correlation between the increase of droughts and global warming, according to Think Progress.

Where Lois Lerner goes, drama follows. On Wednesday, the former IRS officer again invoked the Fifth before the House Oversight Committee. That precipitated a heated exchange between the committee’s Republican chairman, Darrell Issa, and Democratic ranking member Elijah Cummings, who called the hearings “un-American.” And that spat has become the story. No doubt that is exactly what Cummings had in mind. Because it distracts attention from the substance of the hearings — and from the questions raised by e-mails and public remarks Lois Lerner wrote, received or made when she was IRS Director of Tax Exempt Organizations.
