Dead Souls In the
Republican Leadership

American Thinker, by John T. Bennett

"America cannot become the world and still be America." So warned the late Harvard political scientist Samuel Huntington in his 2004 article "America´s Dead Souls." Huntington´s article was prophetic, and it explains why some GOP pols have taken the side of big business and illegal immigrants over the interests of our nation. "In a variety of ways, the American establishment, governmental and private, has become increasingly divorced from the American people," Huntington wrote. Huntington´s core point was that the American elite has grown extremely distant -- socially, economically, morally, and politically -- from the public. This trend, he warned, undermines

Bennett and Prof. Huntington nail the "dead souls" of the political class to the wall. It´s only a matter of time before the Boehner, Cantor, Priebus, McCain GOP follows the Whigs into Stygian darkness... the sooner the better.

There is the D.C. (Republican AND Democratic) world and then there are the rest of us....and nere the twain shall meet nowadays. Boehner and Cantor think they know best, and why not---they live in the only top job, top salary, top economy part of the country right now, a world totally removed from what the rest of us experience. Until we install term limits and impose a six year (at least) period of time before lawmakers can become lobbyists, nothing much will change. What is MOST disconcerting is Boehner and company´s attitude toward the tea party, smaller government, lower taxes and regs theories---they are antagonistic.

The American establishment is made directly from the ivy league. Those once proud institutions were founded to raise up Godly men into positions of leadership. They have since become Satan´s workshop of greed and corruption. Repub or dem they are all fraternity brothers in a common cesspool.

A good read that explains what we are observing from our republican ´leadership." Sam Huntington´s "Clash of Civilizations" was required reading at the War College. I found that it explained the forces contributing to events that played out/will play out for many years in the future.
I will give his "America´s Dead Souls" a read. It will better enlighten me wrt what is contributing to/causing many of America´s problems.

Ann Coulter was recently interviewed by author, journalist and talk radio host Howie Carr on his program; her commentary was pure establishment balderdash. Ann may plead hyperbole, but her sentiment is readily apparent. Among the pearls of wisdom: Carr: “Who are you for, for president right now, Ann?” Coulter: “Um…well, don’t tell’em, but I’m planning on giving Mitt Romney a little more time to rest; flying out, kidnapping him, and depriving him of sleep, food and water until he agrees to run again.” Carr: “You’re kidding.” Coulter: “No” Carr: “You really want him to run again?”

House Speaker John Boehner’s top allies are racing out the door to retirement, Bloomberg News reported on Thursday. Top Boehner allies that are retiring in 2014 include four committee chairmen: Reps. Mike Rogers (R-MI) of the Intelligence Committee, Buck McKeon (R-CA) of the Armed Services Committee, Doc Hastings (R-WA) of the Natural Resources Committee and Dave Camp (R-MI) of the Ways and Means Committee. One of Boehner closest friends, Rep. Tom Latham (R-IA), is retiring this year, and another—Rep. Mike Simpson (R-ID)—may lose his seat in a primary in Idaho against conservative Bryan Smith.

During the debates surrounding the adoption of the Constitution by the several states, one commentator observed that "the government should be so small that it doesn´t matter who wins." Well, the government is no longer small, and this year, in Virginia´s Seventh Congressional District, it matters very much who wins. Republicans are not the only people in this country who are dismayed at the collapse of conviction and principle in the party’s national establishment. Gone are the days when GOP leaders would defend valiantly the principles of limited government, the rule of law, and the rights and duties of individual

The ultimate party litmus test: given a veto-proof legislature, will Republicans finally start to reduce the scope and size of government? It looks like the answer is no. In 2013, North Carolina was just one of 25 states where Republican governors were given historic opportunity to govern alongside Republican-controlled legislatures. Despite conservative voters’ best hopes, any sensible mandate to restore individual and economic freedom flew out the window when the FY 2013-14 budget was approved, reauthorizing the formerly Democratic state’s blueprint budget with a tragic 2.0-percent increase in general fund appropriations.

The danger is this: In the USA’s upcoming 2014 elections, Republican elites assume that everyone all now agrees that conservatives ‘must’ support non-conservative candidates to win more elections. The GOP is operating on the belief that everyone is on board, simply because insiders have officially decreed it to be so. However, the grassroots in the USA remains unconvinced. Worse, the Republican establishment has no plan for truly healing the actual wounds. Elites want to avoid change more fervently than they do want to win elections. Elites violated trust by advancing liberal policies in the U.S. Congress, but they won’t apologize or

Russia´s Putin has invaded his neighbor’s sovereign territory. He must and will face serious repercussions for doing so, and the international community must make the price severe. Unless we are willing to go to war for Ukraine—and I believe that would be unwise—Russia without question has the military might and geographic advantage to control the Crimea and the Russian dominated areas of Ukraine. But at what cost? Russia´s stock market is dropping precipitously and their economy is quite dependent on exports that depend on a stable Ukraine.

Russia’s invasion of Crimea is a tipping point event that will further spur the American oil boom. The European Union (EU) and United States in 2008 threatened to slap economic sanctions on Russia for invading Georgia. But after a while the criticism faded and threats of sanctions were quietly dropped, because the EU is almost entirely reliant on Russia for energy supplies. A similar situation is unfolding today as the EU and U.S. are again making empty threats that they will stop exports of Russian oil and gas as punishment for invading the Ukraine. Many Americans have been watching with great consternation the ongoing struggle between the Federal Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the U.S. Marshals against Cliven Bundy and his family. There are no signs of either side relinquishing their position. Many onlookers have been informed that this dispute is over protecting the desert tortoise. But it is nothing of the sort. In fact, the reality of the dispute goes far underneath what is being talked about. The more appropriate source of the dispute is ground water as well as surface water -- this is a war over water. The son of the Nevada rancher locked in an increasingly tense land dispute with the federal government, says their cowboys managed to break a blockade and retrieve around 30 head of cattle. Federal agents swooped on Tuesday after Cliven Bundy, dubbed the last remaining rancher in southern Nevada, refused to remove his herd of 900 cows from land he claims has been in his family since 1870. The heavily-armed federal agents, equipped with eight helicopters and backed-up by snipers, surrounded the Bundy ranch after the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) attained a federal court order to confiscate the family´s herd. Following the massacre of grammar-school children in Newtown, Conn., in December 2012, high-powered weapons have been used to kill innocent victims in more senseless public incidents. Those killings, however, are only a fragment of the total harm caused by the misuse of firearms. Each year, more than 30,000 people die in the United States in firearm-related incidents. Many of those deaths involve handguns. The adoption of rules that will lessen the number of those incidents should be a matter of primary concern to both federal and state legislators. Nearly a year into the IRS scandal, we still don´t know exactly what happened—though we are finally getting an inkling. President Obama labeled complaints about voter fraud “bogus” and accused Republicans of cynically trying to prevent Americans from accessing the polls in a fiery speech Friday at a civil rights forum hosted by Al Sharpton. Obama argued that attempts in some states to impose new voter identification restrictions were actually efforts by Republicans to make “it harder, not easier to vote.” And the president said that while voter fraud should be prevented, it rarely occurred. “So let´s be clear, the real voter fraud is the people who try to deny our rights by making bogus arguments about voter fraud,” Obama said.
