Senior citizens forced into pediatric plans
Boston Herald, by Priyanka Dayal McCluskey

One of the state’s leading advocates of small government claims she’s the latest victim of a big government nightmare — Obamacare — saying it is forcing her to switch her workers to a more costly health plan that covers pediatric dental care — even though all the employees are senior citizens. “I’m 70, the other two are in their 60s,” said Barbara Anderson, president of Citizens for Limited Taxation. “We do not have family plans. There are no pediatrics involved. There is no reason we should have to offer a pediatric dental plan.” Anderson said her insurer, Harvard Pilgrim Health

The Tonight Show will have a special guest on tonight’s show: Sarah Palin. The show’s Twitter account made the announcement Wednesday afternoon, saying the former Alaska governor will be stopping by the show to “do something fun” with host Jimmy Fallon.(Tweet) The scheduled guests for Wednesday night’s show are Denis Leary, Cat Deeley along with musical guest Nickel Creek. It appears unlikely that Palin will sit down with Fallon for an interview, but perhaps will join him for some type of sketch to promote her new reality series Amazing America, which premieres tomorrow night on the Sportsman Channel.

Benghazi Might Be Fox’s MH370,

CNN has taken a lot of heat–and rightly so!–for its obsessive reporting on missing flight MH370, which has often come at the detriment of more pressing or substantive stories. But no less ridiculous is Fox News’ #Benghazi fixation, which was in full fever Wednesday morning as the network devoted three hours and thirty-eight minutes of continual coverage of a Benghazi congressional hearing. Benghazi has long been Fox’s fallback, less a news story than a sort of epistemological wound that can never close simply because conservatives refuse to accept conclusions about the events of September 11, 2012 that don’t conform to

CNBC contributor Rick Santelli ranted against the media’s tendency to accept certain things as settled fact. According to Santelli, the media, “whether press, TV or whatever it is,” aren’t focusing enough on presenting hard data. “I don’t care how many people visit a website. I want to know how many people, you know, have lost, how many people have gained, the intersection, how many people have paid, you know, kind of an analytical, quantitative approach.” [See video below.] Santelli argued that this was due to the media accepting data from third party sources as settled science. “Seven million, it’s settled.

President Obama is in Michigan to

When asked why President Obama chose to travel to Ann Arbor, Mich., (Go Blue!) to give a speech on the minimum wage Wednesday, White House press secretary Jay Carney responded, "We love Michigan, everybody here." But there´s more to it than that. Obama wants to increase the federal minimum wage from $7.25 an hour to $10.10 an hour by 2016. Congressional Democrats support the proposal, Republicans -- wait for it -- do not. As in many other states nationwide, there´s a push in Michigan to raise the minimum wage. According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, 34 states are

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus lauded Wednesday´s Supreme Court decision striking aggregate limits on campaign contributions as a “very big victory for the RNC.” The court, in a 5-4 decision, found that aggregate contribution limits — the maximum amount a donor can give to federal candidates and political party committees throughout the course of a two-year election cycle combined — are unconstitutional. “This is a good day because the First Amendment applies to all of us,” Priebus said. “People should have the right to give their money and exercise their free speech to as many candidates and as many

LYNCHBURG, Va.— Possible Republican presidential hopeful Ted Cruz said Wednesday that religious Americans have a duty to take a stand against policies, such as President Barack Obama´s health care law, that could threaten their liberties. "As believers, we are called to action; not just sitting quietly and hiding our faith under a bushel but to stand and speak no matter what the consequence," the Texas senator told students at Liberty University. "Religious liberty has never been more under attack." The Texas Republican and tea party favorite used his appearance here at the Virginia school founded by the late Rev. Jerry

While Democratic House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi took an Obamacare victory lap Tuesday afternoon, she appeared hesitant to make the law the central plank in her party’s push to win in 2014, telling reporters that “while we’re proud of the Affordable Care Act, we now pivot to jobs.” Pelosi appeared in front of the White House to extoll the expected 7 million Obamacare sign-ups the administration reached before the quasi-deadline on March 31. But when a reporter asked the California congresswoman whether this represented “vindication” and a “turning of the tide” on the unpopular law, she stopped short of declaring

Democrats’ Midterm Challenge:

President Barack Obama is hitting the road this week to raise campaign cash for Democrats in this year’s midterm elections, but his party may need something more than cash: higher enthusiasm. In fact, an enthusiasm gap is emerging as perhaps Democrats’ biggest threat as they try to keep control of the Senate and avoid an erosion of their position in the House in this year’s voting. This enthusiasm gap has two sides: Low Democratic excitement, and a high level of tea-party energy that figures to help Republicans. As previously noted in this space, renewed economic anxiety among key parts of

The Supreme Court struck down limits Wednesday in federal law on the overall campaign contributions the biggest individual donors may make to candidates, political parties and political action committees. The justices said in a 5-4 vote that Americans have a right to give the legal maximum to candidates for Congress and president, as well as to parties and PACs, without worrying that they will violate the law when they bump up against a limit on all contributions, set at $123,200 for 2013 and 2014. That includes a separate $48,600 cap on contributions to candidates. The decision will allow the wealthiest

Before getting to the speech itself, it’s worth noting a few things. When the Democrats passed and Barack Obama signed Obamacare, the majority opposed it. About 56%, in fact. A majority have consistently opposed that law ever since. The Obama administration touted 7 million sign-ups by March 31 as “success.” When that goal appeared to be unreachable, the administration suggested that maybe 5 or 6 million would be enough. Now, as if by magic, they have their number. Somehow. All along, the administration has touted false numbers of enrollees. All along, the administration has neglected to admit that Obamacare is

A few months back, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius stated for the record that 7 million Obamacare sign-ups by the end of March would constitute success. She was clear about it. But then February came, and February always stinks. It’s just a lousy month. You’re tired of winter, you’re still miles away from spring, and no one was signing up for Obamacare. That 7 million figure looked totally unreachable. So Sebelius does what every other member of the Obama administration does when confronted with inconvenient facts. She lied. A triumphant President Barack Obama declared his signature medical insurance overhaul a success, saying it has made America´s health care system ´a lot better.´ But buried in the 7.1 million enrollments he announced in a heavily staged Rose Garden appearance is a more unsettling reality. Numbers from a RAND Corporation study that has been kept under wraps suggest that barely 858,000 previously uninsured Americans – nowhere near 7.1 million – have paid for new policies and joined the ranks of the insured by Monday night. Others were already insured, including millions who lost coverage when their existing policies were suddenly

A RAND study pours buckets of cold water on the Obama administration’s claims that it has nearly reached 7 million sign-ups for Obamacare. The whole point of Obamacare, supposedly, was to insure the uninsured and bend the cost curve down. Those who had insurance were supposed to be able to keep it. Families were supposed to start saving about $2500 a year. If you believed the Obama administration. Reality, according to RAND‘s study, is that the Obama administration’s 7 million figure is deceptive. Supposing 7 million have actually signed up and paid their first premium — which is not a given,

With Chris Christie in deep trouble, Republican poobahs are reportedly looking to Jeb Bush to save their party in 2016. The former two-term governor of Florida speaks fluent Spanish, is a convert to Catholicism, and has high name recognition. Jeb could raise millions of dollars over night by just saying “yes” to running. Despite all this, there are strong reasons Republicans should say no to him. 1. His last name is poison. Let’s face it, if Jeb Bush had the last name of Something Else he would have already run for president in 2008 or 2012. According to a recent Washington Post/ABC News poll registered voters were asked if they would definitely NOT vote for Jeb Bush and 50 percent said they would not.

Spanish historians say they have discovered what Monty Python could not – the Holy Grail, the legendary cup Jesus supposedly drank from at the Last Supper. The Spaniards – Margarita Torres and José Ortega del Río – believe the 2,000-year-old vessel is in a church in León in northern Spain. The pair spent three years studying the history of the chalice and last week published a book, “The Kings of the Grail,” making their case. The onyx chalice, they explained, was concealed within another antique vessel known as the Chalice of Doña Urruca, which is located in León’s basilica of
