Abbott, under fire for Rio Grande Valley
comment, calls Wendy Davis ‘clueless’ on region

Houston Chronicle [TX], by Peggy Fikac

Original Article

AUSTIN – Attorney General Greg Abbott and Sen. Wendy Davis are ramping up their battle over the border in the governor’s race after he cited Rio Grande Valley criminal cases in comparing corruption in the region to that of a third-world country. Davis’ campaign first denounced the reference last week, when Abbott in unveiling his border security plan cited instances including a bribery case involving drug dealers in referring to “creeping corruption” that “resembles third-world country practices that erode the social fabric of our communities and destroys Texans trust and confidence in government.” The ante was upped after The Monitor in McAllen

Comments:
I absolutely cannot wait for the debates later in the year. Abbott will destroy her.

and what does the liberals want to describe the colonias?

In the 1990s, colonias became a common American English name for the slums that developed on both sides of the U.S.–Mexican border. Colonias have existed along the border FOR DECADES.

Every democrat city and region turns in to a third-world cesspool. That´s the way they like it, while they concern themselves with going to Harvard, cocktail parties, and their social circles. All democrats are clueless about the real world, because of the lies they tell themselves.

I could post an article almost every week about political corruption in the Rio Grande Valley, a Democrat-controlled area once run by the Anglo "patrons" (ie, Lloyd Benson´s clan) and now by Hispanic "patrons."

One school district was run by a guy in the maintenance department and accepted significant bribes; he and his sons (also high muckety-mucks) in the district are currently under indictment. Democrats, of course.

The law-enforcement community in the area have ties to Mexican gangs ... the son of one of the area sheriffs (the son was also a member of a local police department) was recently convicted for his involvment in making safe the way for the cartels. Democrats, of course.

There´s a judge down there who sold his decisions to favored lawyers. Democrat, of course.

The days of cross-border trade are quickly dwindling, at least from this side, due to the lawlessness and cartel influence on the Mexican side of the border.

And Wendy is "clueless?" Perhaps her press spokesman, Peggy Fikac (who still draws a paycheck from the Hearst papers) can send her some clippings from her papers on what´s going on. Peggy may want to pencil in that the crooks are Democrats, because the articles usually don´t include that.

My husband was born, well actually in Indiana, haha, but lived in south Texas, exactly the area Abbott is talking about, until he was 15 and he has told me how "the valley" works. It´s a thriving area and he says there´s a lot of drug money and where you have drug money, you have corruption. These days it´s oil money and drug money. We were just there on vacation and it´s booming.

2. Biden laughed at for calling LaGuardia a "third-world" airport.

NEW YORK -- In surprise testimony in a Manhattan courtroom Wednesday, Osama bin Laden´s son-in-law recounted the night of the Sept. 11 attacks, when the al-Qaida leader sent a messenger to drive him into a mountainous area for a meeting inside a cave in Afghanistan. "Did you learn what happened? We are the ones who did it," the son-in-law, Sulaiman Abu Ghaith, recalled bin Laden telling him. When bin Laden asked what he thought would happen next, Abu Ghaith testified that he responded by predicting America "will not settle until it kills you and topples the state of the Taliban." Deaths of bighorn sheep in Arizona spark

The first phase of a three-year plan by Arizona wildlife officials to bolster herds of bighorn sheep has resulted in the death of half the population, after the 31 sheep were transplanted at a cost of $150,000 into the Catalina Mountains where mountain lions killed 15 of the protected species within a few months. Some animal welfare groups are pushing for an end to the project, but wildlife officials say the conservation effort is not a failure and expect the projected $600,000, three-year plan to result in greater numbers of bighorns in an area where they once co-existed with mountain lions

New emails have been released about whether Colorado Democratic Sen. Mark Udall pressured a state agency to change its estimate of Obamacare cancellations. Udall wanted the state Department of Insurance to downgrade its estimate of Obamacare-related insurance cancellations from 250,000 to just 73,000, because some Colorado residents were offered replacement plans. After releasing his own estimate in November, Udall plunged the state government into a media storm involving Gov. John Hickenlooper’s communications director and the insurance commissioner, according to the newly released emails.

FreedomWorks issued an unusual round of endorsements this week. The conservative group, which won publicity for backing intraparty challenges to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and Rep. Mike Simpson, decided to play it safe this time. It endorsed three senators and nine congressmen, none of whom face any serious competition—Republican or Democratic. It stayed out of the contested Oklahoma primary for Sen. Tom Coburn´s seat, but endorsed Republican James Inhofe, who doesn´t face any GOP opposition. In South Carolina, FreedomWorks is backing Sen. Tim Scott, who´s a lock for reelection, but it isn´t doing anything against vulnerable Sen. Lindsey Graham,

WASHINGTON — European nations are begging the United States to send them natural gas to blunt dependence on Russia, but a lack of infrastructure and market realities are calling into question America’s ability to flex its new muscles as the world’s leading energy power. The crisis in Ukraine is deepening European alarm over reliance on Russian energy, a weapon that Russian President Vladimir Putin uses to wield economic and political power. Western nations have begun imposing minor sanctions on Russia but aren’t hitting Putin where it really hurts, the energy trade, because Europe relies on Russia for some 30 percent of

Hundreds of demonstrators at fast food restaurants around the country alleging that restaurant managers regularly steal employee wages are actually astroturfed protesters agitating in favor of a higher minimum wage, critics said. “Fight for 15”—an organization that favors increasing the minimum wage for fast food employees to $15 per hour—organized the protests nominally aimed at combatting the theft of employee wages. The group, which is supported by prominent labor unions such as the SEIU, organized several similar protests in 2011 and 2012 demanding higher wages. Will everyone please stop talking about a new Cold War? However badly things work out between Russia and the United States and the West, a new Cold War isn’t in the cards because Russia today isn’t the Soviet Union. Sure, there are similarities. We are in a diplomatic and geostrategic conflict with Russia, which was the heart of the old Soviet Union. Also, Russia wants much of the real estate that belonged to the Soviet Union before it collapsed. And Vladimir Putin is a former KGB colonel who now waxes nostalgic for the good old days. As the clock ticks down to the end of open enrollment for health coverage, one thing is becoming clearer: what the final demographics will look like. Demographics matter a lot because they will help determine whether the health insurance market goes into a death spiral (or requires hefty federal subsidies to keep it from doing so). Young healthy people, and a lot of them, are needed to keep the market stable and premiums low. As we head into the final few weeks, we have a pretty good idea of how many young healthy people there will be, and the answer
