Mother of 2 and her boyfriend
died after chase on Hwy. 212

StarTribune [Minneapolis, MN], by Kelly Smith & Maura Lerner

Original Article

Dawn Marie Pfister was a 34-year-old “free spirit” and the mother of two young children from Elkhorn, Wis. Her boyfriend Matthew Vincent Serbus once lived in St. Paul and had a long criminal record for theft, robbery and drugs. Now, Pfister’s family and friends are searching for answers about how and why the couple died of gunshot wounds after leading police on a high-speed chase on Hwy. 212 from Chaska to Eden Prairie on Friday morning. The Hennepin County medical examiner’s office identified the two Saturday. Officials have not released many details about the incident or explained what prompted police to open fire.

Comments:
this is the top story in Minnesota today.. the "chase", as the RedStar and its reporterettes headline it, happened on Friday MORNING..
for some reason, perhaps the RedStar is for legalizing drugs - they are doing their best to whitewash this.. you have to check the other pathetic media outlets here to get ANY idea who these criminals were..

Please post source & byline to site style as shown and article to word limit. LCom Staff.

Society has come to accept the idea that being a "free spirit" is noble and admirable. Here is a reality check. Free spirit in this tragedy means a lawless, irresponsible, and self-abusing lifestyle that leads to destruction.

OK, this is not an example of someone relatively innocent being shot for fleeing the police. This is the police shooting someone for not stopping when so ordered, someone who has already demonstrated willful disregard for other human life.

I can tell Jill Walsh what happened to her daughter: when the cops tried to pull them over, they ran, and when they crashed into the wall and exited the vehicle, they didn´t comply with the cop´s orders; in the struggle that ensued, they gave the cops a reason to believe that they were armed and ready to shoot it out.

Anyone with one eye and half sense can read enough of what the RedStar reported to figure that out, no matter how skewed.

But let´s go back Ms. Walsh. It started with your "free spirit" daughter who, over her lifetime, hasdbeen mixed up in God-knows-what illegal activities; then she got herself mixed up with Serbus, a serious criminal.

Now that her chosen lifestyle has rendered her dead, you want to find anyone and everyone to blame other than the person who is responsible: your daughter.

Put Lucas Davenport and Virgil Flowers on the case. They´ll get to the bottom of it.

Nobody wants a "free spirit" for their mommy. However, you could end up as president one day...then we can all suffer for your mommy´s actions.

They want answers. Here´s one.

They drove the car in an insouciant potentially deadly fashion. That action alone could be construed as attempted murder. If they had surrendered as soon as they crashed they likely would have gotten off light. Perhaps some small jail time. But they tried to run away and the concern is they would get another vehicle and repeat the deadly action. They had to be stopped at the scene.
Shooting justified.

The parents describe their daughter as a "free spirit" and an "old soul". Did they also know this?

Police records show that Pfister had been arrested in 2013 on drug-related charges, and that Olmsted County had issued warrants for the arrest of Pfister and Serbus. Officials would not say when or why the warrants were issued, but they were pending.

Serbus, 36, had a criminal record dating to at least 1999, including theft, burglary and drug-related cases. In 2006, a third-degree murder charge against Serbus was dropped in connection with the death of a 29-year-old woman. Serbus and the woman had bought and used heroin and crack cocaine, and the woman was later found dead from an overdose at a Richfield motel.

From another local source:

The two were killed after a police standoff on Highway 212 in Eden Prairie near Highway 101 at Dell Road, which began as a high-speed chase in Chaska.

Witnesses say Serbus was holding Pfister hostage during the standoff, but it’s not clear if Pfister was shot and killed by Serbus or by police. It is also unknown if the two were armed during the fatal confrontation.

34 year old free spirit Pfister had just taken up with this guy a month ago. Apparently she didn´t vet him or didn´t care:

KARE 11 looked into the criminal history of one of Serbus. It dates back to 1996. He´s been charged with felonies ranging from check forgery and theft to assault. He had two warrants out for his arrest in Olmstead County and Dakota County.

Interesting to read this right after I read and posted in another thread about women´s obsession with "bad boys".

Here´s an example. Obviously, this woman found this "bad boy" sexy and fun, and enough to push aside the fact that he was criminal scum, push aside the fact that she had two children and was letting a dangerous man with a record into their lives. She was such a "free spirit"!

No she wasn´t, she was a selfish, self-absorbed criminal whose intentional activities cost her her life and hurt her kids deeply.

Oh but she and her boyfriend where "edgy and cool", right?

Thirteen people were injured, six critically, early Wednesday moirning after an explosion caused a major fire at a grocery store and apartment building on Cedar Ave. in south Minneapolis. No cause has been identified as of yet, said Greg Nelson, supervisor of the Minneapolis Emergency Communications Center, but the building that housed the West Bank Grocery and a mosque is likely a total loss. The second and third floor later collapsed. The injured were transported to Hennepin County Medical Center and Univesity Hospital.
