Rebuttal does little for Allen
Boston Herald, by Margery Eagan

Better to keep your mouth shut and just appear to be a pedophile than open it and remove all doubt. Or most doubt anyway. I know, I know. We cannot say with certainty that filmmaker Woody Allen sexually assaulted his then-7-year-old adopted daughter Dylan Farrow two decades ago. But, in an apparent t*t-for-tat against that daughter, Woody Allen doesn’t just open his mouth but shoves his foot right in it. He’s written a loathsome and skin-crawling rebuttal to Dylan Farrow printed in the New York Times, his hometown paper. In it, he actually complains about paying child support. He presents Dylan as a manipulated

Interesting article by a once admirer of Allen. Unlike her I never liked his movies, don´t consider him a genius and most of his witty lines are from years and years ago.

The man is a pervert.......that´s all! The evil in all of this is the permanent DAMAGE he´s done to innocent children who have to live with this evil he put in them the rest of their lives .........but Hollywood would keep helping, defending and stroking and supporting this pervert´s behaviors so he can CONTINUE doing it to more innocents without reproach.

The whole did he or didn´t he discussion among those of us who can only speculate, is skewed by the Woody/Soon Yi connection. A normal, responsible man and parent does not lust after his wife´s teenage daughter. The semi-nude photos add to the awfulness.

The United States Postal Service has announced that former NRA President Charlton Heston will be honored with his own stamp. The stamp is part of their “Legends of Hollywood” series, and while the specific issue date has not yet determined, it will be issued sometime in 2014. Heston was a five term president of the National Rifle Association from 1998 to 2003. He was a tireless advocate for Second Amendment rights and will always be remembered by the NRA faithful for his “cold, dead hands” speech delivered at the 2000 NRA Annual Meeting in Charlotte, North Carolina. The speech was

Austin police chief Art Acevedo has issued an apology for comments he made during a press conference yesterday concerning the arrest of a female jogger near the University of Texas campus on Thursday. Acevedo dismissed the controversy over police handling of a jaywalking jogger, saying ´Cops are actually committing sexual assaults on duty so I thank God that this is what passes for a controversy in Austin, Texas.´ Today, he released a statement saying that he was trying to put the arrest of jogger Amanda Jo Stephen ´into context by bringing attention to the fact that law enforcement deals with many acts

The mother of Jahi McMath, the 13-year-old Oakland girl who was declared brain-dead after a complicated surgery that involved removing her tonsils, insisted in a Facebook post this week that her daughter has improved physically, but that it continues to be an "unbelievably difficult time" for the family. Citing alleged death threats, the family has declined to say where they transferred Jahi´s body after she was released by Children´s Hospital & Research Center Oakland to the county coroner. Jahi was declared brain-dead Dec. 12 after surgery three days earlier at the hospital to remove her tonsils, adenoids and uvula. Family members won

As all the world knows, climate buffoon Michael Mann is suing Mark Steyn, National Review and others for disagreeing with him about global warming–not just disagreeing, but doing so in colorful language. As happens so often on the Left, Mann found himself losing the debate on a public issue of great importance. Rather than admit that he was wrong about the hockey stick–one of the most notorious errors, or frauds, in the history of science–he is trying to shut his opponents up through litigation. Steyn was unhappy with how the lawsuit was going, so he dismissed the lawyers that were

How Dick Cabela Sold the Great Outdoors

The origin tale of Dick Cabela, who founded the outdoor-goods chain Cabela’s, and who died this week, at the age of seventy-seven, begins with fishing flies. In 1961, according to company lore, Cabela bought forty-five dollars’ worth of hand-tied lures to sell at his family’s furniture store, in Nebraska. Customers weren’t interested, so Cabela bought an ad in the magazine Sports Afield, offering five flies in exchange for twenty-five cents in postage. When people wrote in to redeem the offer, he put their names on a mailing list, which he blasted with three-page-long catalogues of fishing gear. Today, Cabela’s has $3.5

Rewriting the Gettysburg Address

Abraham Lincoln did not give the Gettysburg Address on Nov. 19, 1863 — at least, not the one engraved on the Lincoln Memorial, the one memorized by millions the world over. Lincoln actually wrote the words recognized today as the Gettysburg Address months after the cemetery dedication, during a full and complete revision of his speech that he finished in February 1864. Lincoln’s revisions added about 14 percent more words to his original delivery text, the so-called Nicolay Draft, adding several key passages. But no addition was more important than the words “under God”: Lincoln had spoken those words, and others

WASHINGTON — Cities, counties, public schools and community colleges around the country have limited or reduced the work hours of part-time employees to avoid having to provide them with health insurance under the Affordable Care Act, state and local officials say. The cuts to public sector employment, which has failed to rebound since the recession, could serve as a powerful political weapon for Republican critics of the health care law, who claim that it is creating a drain on the economy. President Obama has twice delayed enforcement of the health care law’s employer mandate, which would subject larger employers to tax penalties

Politics is often like war. Unfortunately, politicians, the media and the voting public seldom have the same degree of realism and discipline with which professional soldiers fight wars. You can indulge your emotions and base your decisions on wishful thinking in politics, in a way that you are not likely to when your own life is on the line in battle. One of the most dramatic and heartening events of World War II was the miraculous evacuation of British troops trapped on the beaches of France in 1940, at Dunkirk. And its lesson is still relevant today. The British troops were in

Confession: I love the food at Waffle House. (Hashbrown preference: Smothered, Covered and Chunked.) So when I came across this U.S. map that detailed the number of Waffle House locations by state -- as best as we can tell it originated at DeadSpin -- I was more than a little interested. And, because I spend my days (and nights) thinking about politics, I immediately began looking up the presidential performance numbers in states with Waffle Houses versus those without them. (Snip for map) Here´s what I found. Mitt Romney won 16 of the 25 states that have at least one Waffle House.

A rump band of Beltway conservatives has seen the enemy and it is not Harry Reid. It is Mitch McConnell, whose scalp is apparently worth blowing yet another shot at a Republican Senate majority. There´s a new dividing line in the conservative movement—between a majority who´d like to win against President Obama, and a handful who´d like to win some scalps. It was on vivid display last week during the Senate debt-ceiling vote. Republicans were looking to avoid a fight they were destined to lose. Democrats had the votes to pass the bill with a simple majority, meaning they also would

Of all people, Prince William, the heir presumptive to the British throne, should know something about the dangers of forgetting history, accidentally or deliberately. President Obama’s stimulus may have boosted the economy when it passed in 2009, but it’s now beginning to take a toll and will soon begin to leave the economy worse off than if it had never passed, according to a new report Friday by the Congressional Budget Office. Mr. Obama signed the stimulus into law five years ago this week, vowing it would help rescue the economy from its post-Wall Street collapse tailspin, and saying it would save millions of jobs. The CBO said it’s been successful at that, helping sustain between 700,000 and 3.6 million jobs at its peak

The University of Notre Dame must provide birth control to employees and students after a federal appeals court ruled Friday, a move the school says will force it to violate its religious beliefs. In a blow to religious colleges and universities across the country, the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago denied Notre Dame´s request for an injunction to the ObamaCare birth control mandate that requires the school to provide coverage for contraception. The injunction would have given Notre Dame a temporary reprieve from the birth control mandate, as the Roman Catholic school challenges the rule in court.

The real mystery behind the FCC´s now abandoned "study" to police American newsrooms is why the mainstream media refused to raise holy hell over it. While Obama´s lapdogs refused to bark, it was conservative media who fought for newsroom independence and got the FCC to finally back down. Other than the media´s natural obedience to Obama, the fact that the fingerprints of left-wing billionaire George Soros have been found on the FCC study might also help to explain the media´s silence. CNS News reports that for the first ten years of the last decade, Soros donated more than $52 million
