Jobs: The Report, the Spin, and the Fear
Weekly Standard, by Geoffrey Norman

Original Article

The monthly employment numbers are out and even the New York Times is dismayed. The economy added 113,000 jobs in January, which was (all together now) unexpectedly short of the 180,000 economists were predicting. This news: ... is likely to spur fears that the labor market is poised for yet another slowdown. The White House, where they have learned to always look on the bright side, responded in upbeat fashion, calling the report: … another reminder of both the progress that has been made and the challenges that remain. Businesses have now added 8.5 million jobs over the last 47 months and the

As long as Barack Obama is President there will never be a recovery. He does not want one and will do everything in his power to make sure of that.

Couple of things about this, these added jobs are coming from the White House, does anybody believe that figure?, secondly a quick web search reveals that the jobs lost are far higher than the suspect jobs added number. After all we are talking progressives here, their not exactly know to be trustworthy using Alinsky as their bible. The ends justify the means, words for the "modern progressive" to live by.

Great. Excellent. Another 113,000 part-time low-paying jobs with no benefits, no insurance, and no future.

The line in the article that points out the sharp drop in manufacturing output says it all. I keep getting the feeling that the US economy is treading water and the sharks are circling around us in anticipation of something big. Might this be why the pubbies and dimmies in congress want to look the same now so harder to blame one party over the other.

I´m still trying to figure, with a larger population and less people working than six years ago, how unemployment can be down! I never was particularly good at math, but geez! Reminds me of a private school administrator who told me they got around the state requirement for number of school days by "creative accounting". Every other school had to make up snow days. Obie must have hired her for the labor department.

Being unemployed means:
Now you´re able to tuck your kids in at night.
Unemployment sets you free to pursue your dreams.
Less work is good news!
You now have the choice of being unemployed.
We have set you free from work.
You can pursue your hobbies.
If you want to be creative you can leave your work, pursue your passions, you don´t have to be job-locked anymore.

So people, we need to ask ourselves, if such a government will gladly tell you and stick to such preposterous dishonesty at every turn, where will they stop? What won´t they do? What are the limits to such unscrupulous, crooked liars?
Welcome to the new Communism of unnecessary, over-reaching, over-bearing, high-handed, job-killing, autocratic regulation, deceit, deception and disinformation where none of us on our own is as dumb as all of us combined!

Meanwhile back in the southwest, houses are springing up all around in our area west of Albuquerque, NM. We wonder where these people are getting the dough to purchase new $150k-250k homes and we are financially strapped - my wife, who was victim of a downsizing 3 years ago, can´t seem to find anything outside a filling station overnight attendant job. Where do all these people work?

Here´s my take for #8´s math issue - 3 workers at 40 hours per week equals 120 hours, you you change that to 4 workers at 30 hours per week (due to zerocare) and that equals the same 120 hours. Easy, you just added 1 job.

For #11 - if you look at the loss of population in the high tax states you can see where the new home buyers are coming from. You can sell a bungalow in a NY City suburb and afford a mansion in the south. The problem with their move is that they bring their politics with them. Just wondering about that filling station overnight attendant job, did they require a college degree of some kind like most new listings do now?

I have personally known people that moved out to the country (because they love the country) only to complain about the smells from the farm down the road. The only thing they found wrong with the county life is was that it wasn´t like the suburbs. Oh yeah, and all the hicks that live there and plus, it´s farther to drive to get anywhere. And they should build more stores and maybe a theater complex since there´s so much room, and ...

Norman is far too kind to the Obama White House. They are not being cheerfully optimistic, they are shooting out propaganda at the pace of an active volcano. There isn´t now and never has been a "recovery" to the democrat-caused depression and housing market crash, some months just suck less than others. Unemployment real numbers have been in the 20-30 percent range since 2008 and I dare them to refute that. Many who are still working have lost a lot of ground in pay and benefits. The international company that I work for, which just happens to be in a relatively hot market, just laid off all temporary workers in December. Retiring workers are not being replaced. Something´s up and it´s not the job numbers.

Imagine if it can be coordinated so that everyone, who could afford to, suddenly stopped working for a week, simultaneously. Businesses would have to slow or stop, spending & revenues would decline, tax revenues would slow drastically, the list goes on. It would THEN become obvious (duh!) that if everyone stayed home, the country would grind to a halt. As such, it is the WORKING persons who keep America going, NOT the scheming politicians and tyrannical leaders who bleed the productive Americans while they PANDER to the leeches "riding in the cart" instead of those PULLING IT. Attention "Cart Pullers": voice your opinion of how you are being screwed-over, by casting your vote to "Throw the BUMS Out" and to demand that everyone pull their own weight. If you let the goldbrickers out-vote you, then bend over again!

Wendy Davis’ campaign has had its problems. The revelation that her life story of personal struggle and triumph as a single mother was embellished was a game changer. Her campaign has had a communications problem as well, playing media favorites and putting Davis on stage with a shotgun in a Dukakis-in-tank moment. The video of Davis’ supporters mocking Greg Abbott’s disability was cringe-worthy. Her flip-flop then flop-flip on late term abortion alienated her base, as did her endorsement of open carry. There’s a pattern of falsifying statistics throughout the entire Census Bureau. And anyone who attempts to blow the whistle on the fraud is either retaliated against or ignored, according to two new sources who have experienced the process firsthand. As I’ve been writing for more than six months, the Census Bureau office in Philadelphia uncovered a case of fraud in 2010, did nothing about it and allowed the practice to continue. In that instance, a data collector named Julius Buckmon was faking reports that went into the nation’s all-important jobless tally and consumer-inflation survey. Because the Census Bureau’s surveys are scientific — meaning

After years of litigation, the Supreme Court on Monday said it would decide if Congress or the State Department has the final say in whether U.S. passports acknowledge Jerusalem as part of Israel. This touches on one of the most sensitive issues in decades of Middle East conflict, and the case also presents a major separation-of-power conflict between the legislative and executive branches. The controversy is over a 2002 law passed by Congress regarding passports. It says that a U.S. citizen born in Jerusalem may request his or her birthplace to be listed as Israel.
