Iran´s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Wednesday rejected as "worthless" a US claim that Tehran has no need for some of its nuclear facilities, media reported. "Iran´s nuclear technology is non-negotiable and comments about Iran´s nuclear facilities are worthless and there is no need to negotiate or hold talks about them," said Zarif, reacting to the remarks of the US top diplomat in the nuclear talks, ISNA news agency reported. "Those who know our peaceful objectives are also aware that we will not negotiate about our (nuclear) facilities," Zarif added.

Kerry made a great deal. Released $500 million, lifted the sanctions, and got what Kerry is worth -- nothing.

Hawaii law letting police have sex
with prostitutes may be changed
Los Angeles Times, by Paresh Dave    Original Article

In movies and television shows, undercover cops running prostitution stings bring out the handcuffs as soon as there’s an agreement to exchange money for a sex act. They don’t usually wait to receive the service. But police in Hawaii have said they need the flexibility to have sex with prostitutes and have fought to save a state law that has allowed them to do so. Civil rights groups and victims’ advocates called that position ridiculous. “We are near certain that no other state in the nation allows for this type of ‘interpersonal’ and highly problematic ‘investigative tool’ to facilitate prostitution arrests,” the Pacific

The vote was widely condemned by Western leaders, who planned to move swiftly to punish Russia with economic sanctions. As the votes were counted, a jubilant crowd gathered around a statue of Vladimir Lenin in the center of Simferopol to celebrate with song and dance. Many held Russian flags, and some unfurled a handwritten banner reading "We´re Russian and proud of it." Fireworks exploded in the skies above. "We want to go back home, and today we are going back home," said Viktoria Chernyshova, a 38-year-old businesswoman. "We needed to save ourselves from those unprincipled clowns who have taken power

Two Norwegian politicians say they have jointly nominated the former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden for the 2014 Nobel peace prize. The Socialist Left party politicians Baard Vegar Solhjell, a former environment minister, and Snorre Valen said the public debate and policy changes in the wake of Snowden´s whistleblowing had "contributed to a more stable and peaceful world order". Being nominated means Snowden will be one of scores of names that the Nobel committee will consider for the prestigious award. The five-member panel will not confirm who has been nominated but those who submit nominations sometimes make them public. Nominators, including members of

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani warned Israel on Thursday of attacking his country´s nuclear facilities, saying Israel will "rue the day" if it does. "Israel knows very well what the response would be. Israel knows well our regional capability," he told CNN´s Fareed Zakaria. "When it comes to practice, the Israelis cannot do that. If they do such a crazy thing, our response will make them rue the day." On the ongoing nuclear talks with the West, Rouhani insisted Iran would not destroy any of its existing centrifuges "under any circumstances." I am having flashbacks to my time as a marine during the second siege of Falluja in 2004. Again, claims are being published that al-Qaida has taken over the city and that a heavy-handed military response is needed to take the city back from the control of terrorists. The first time around, this claim proved to be false. The vast majority of the men we fought against in Falluja were locals, unaffiliated with al-Qaida, who were trying to expel the foreign occupiers from their country. There was a presence of al-Qaida in the city, but they played a minimal and

Spanish police say a burglar has helped them arrest a soccer coach in southern Spain who they believe sexually abused some boys he trained. Police said the burglar, who hid his identity from the police, called to say that he had found videotapes during a robbery showing the abuse. He said he would leave the evidence under a parked car. The burglar put three tapes in a brown envelope, hid them under a parked car. Inside the envelope, police found a note with the home address of the suspected paedophile and a message from the burglar: “I’ve had the misfortune that these tapes

Ugandan lawmakers on Friday passed an anti-gay bill that calls for life imprisonment for certain homosexual acts, drawing criticism from rights campaigners who called it "the worst in the world." The legislation sets life imprisonment as the penalty for gay sex involving an HIV-infected person, acts with minors and the disabled, as well as repeated sex offenses among consenting adults, according to the office of a spokeswoman for Uganda´s parliament. The bill also prescribes a seven-year jail term for a person who "conducts a marriage ceremony" for same-sex couples. When the bill was first introduced in 2009, it was widely

Perhaps Edward Snowden’s hoodie should have raised suspicions. The black sweatshirt sold by the civil libertarian Electronic Frontier Foundation featured a parody of the National Security Agency’s logo, with the traditional key in an eagle’s claws replaced by a collection of AT&T cables, and eavesdropping headphones covering the menacing bird’s ears. Snowden wore it regularly to stay warm in the air-conditioned underground NSA Hawaii Kunia facility known as “the tunnel.” (Snip) “That kid was a genius among geniuses,” says the NSA staffer. “NSA is full of smart people, but anybody who sat in a meeting with Ed will tell you

Tehran - The last known man to see Robert Levinson alive in Iran now says that the CIA contractor who disappeared in 2007 was definitely detained by Iranian authorities and is almost certainly still in Iranian custody if he remains alive. Dawud Salahuddin, an African-American convert to Islam who met with Mr. Levinson on Iran’s resort island of Kish in 2007, told the Monitor in Tehran that they were detained at the Maryam Hotel on March 9, 2007, by six plainclothes policemen and then separated. To the National Security Agency analyst writing a briefing to his superiors, the situation was clear: their current surveillance efforts were lacking something. The agency´s impressive arsenal of cable taps and sophisticated hacking attacks was not enough. What it really needed was a horde of undercover Orcs. That vision of spycraft sparked a concerted drive by the NSA and its UK sister agency GCHQ to infiltrate the massive communities playing online games, according to secret documents disclosed by whistleblower Edward Snowden. The files were obtained by the Guardian and are being published on Monday in partnership with the

The United States Department of Justice under Eric Holder has done nothing to Melowese Richardson 410 days after she admitted on camera that she committed multiple federal felonies by voting six times for President Obama’s reelection. Federal law makes it a felony to vote more than once for President. In fact, 42 U.S.C. Section 1973i(e) subjects Richardson to twenty-five years in federal prison for her six votes for Obama. I liked her because she was a free spirit, and a survivor, going out for two, three, even five days, in all seasons. She’d show up when it suited her, waiting in the dark before dawn till I came downstairs and turned on my desk lamp. Then she’d make her presence known by rising up on her hind legs and gently

The American Association for the Advancement of Science came as close as such a respectable institution can to screaming an alarm last week. "As scientists, it is not our role to tell people what they should do," it said as it began one of those sentences that you know will build to a "but". "But human-caused climate risks abrupt, unpredictable and potentially irreversible changes." In other words, the most distinguished scientists from the country with the world´s pre-eminent educational institutions were trying to shake humanity out of its complacency. Why weren´t their warnings leading the news? In one sense, the association´s appeal

First lady Michelle Obama told students that freedom of speech should be a universal right during her extravagant, no-press-allowed tour of China — a hypocritical move that will surely draw the ire of critics, according to an expert. “That is troublesome. That goes beyond hypocritical, and I think the American media and the international media has every right to call her and the Obama administration on that — that they permitted that to happen,” said Tom Whalen, a political history professor at Boston University. “It makes you shake your head, albeit sadly.” The first lady stopped at Peking University in Beijing yesterday
