PETA wants monument honoring chickens

We’ve all seen the wooden crosses and other roadside memorials to loved ones killed in automobile accidents. Three years ago, the Georgia Department of Transportation, deeming the makeshift memorials a distraction to drivers and a safety hazard, began offering to place state-approved memorials at the sites of fatal wrecks. For a $100 fee, GDOT places a white sign with the name of the deceased under the words, “Drive Safely, In Memory.” Wednesday, a member of PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, filed an application with GDOT to have a memorial placed at the Hall County site where a

Of course some atheist group will oppose this as an endorsement of religion because it involves memorializing something.

Imagine all the monuments that could be built for armadillos. Here in Florida a Swedish pro, playing in one of our mini-tour events, observed at Poinciana CC (near Kissimmee) a live armadillo loping carefree across a fairway, his only concern the odd wormburner (a mishit that skims the ground) that not many pros would hit. Amazed, he stood there and stared, then remarked that he´d probably seen a hundred of the unfortunate creatures on various high speed two lane roads, either cracked like bloody peppercorns or two-dimensional part-of-the-road buzzard fare. Those buzzards had to be fearless to waddle out onto the hot pavement to pick over those flattened carcases. You never knew when the next car or truck, going fast, would round the nearest curve. Blood on the highway.

A planet warmed by human-produced greenhouse gases poses significant risks already to people, cities and nations today and not just in the far-off future, according to a report the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change will release at the end of this week. And those risks could mean "abrupt or drastic changes" that could lead to unstoppable and irreversible climate shifts like the runaway melting of Greenland´s glacial ice or the rapid drying out of South America´s Amazon rainforest, the Christian Science Monitor reports. The dangers of a warming Earth aren´t limited to animals like polar bears. They´re immediate and very human,

A rapid shift to wind and solar power is needed if the world is to avoid catastrophic global warming, the United Nations warns in a crucial report today. Emissions of greenhouse gases need to be cut by up to 70 per cent before 2050 to control climate change, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) says. ‘Large-scale changes in energy systems’ are required, with coal power stations to be switched off and replaced by wind and solar. And the transformation needs to be made in the next 15 years or controlling climate change will become increasingly harder and more expensive. The report was published

As the midterm elections approach and the administration’s incompetence, along with the distaste for the president’s signature ObamaCare legislation, drive the party’s chances down further, the make-believe coalition of opposites may well crumble if the opposition doesn’t blow it.
