House panel says Obamacare co-op
improperly diverted $25 million

Washington Examiner, by Richard Pollock and Kelly Cohen

A New York nonprofit improperly diverted $25 million meant to help establish three Obamacare health insurance co-ops to a wholly owned for-profit subsidiary, a congressional oversight committee said Wednesday. The Freelancers Union, which received $340 million in federal loans to set up co-ops in New York, New Jersey and Oregon, gave some of that cash to a for-profit entity called Independent Worker Services. The accusation appeared in a congressional report made public Wednesday by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, chaired by outspoken Obamacare critic Darrell Issa, a California Republican.

It´s 2014, people - - get used to the new world of the American socialist republics. Get in there and fight - - to get other people´s money!

I am very pleased to see that the GOP is having the many reports they receive closely reviewed to pick up little nuggets of fraud and abuse like this. They do seem to be doing better identifying these things and calling officials out in committee hearings.

Tip of the 4 billion Progressive Slush Fund for Progressives as Michelle Malkin points out.
Sara Horowitz is a left wing ideologue from Obamas chicagomdays -van Jones and accusations of poor service higher premiums from the members she is supposed to serve.
She calls these funds "venture capital for health care" -on Taxpayers dime in competition with private insurers who Obama is bent on destroying.
She is another one who belongs in jail for misuse of Taxpayer funds.
She got an " exception" from WH to set up a for profit in violation of law.
Another example of WHY no immigration law can be passed with Obama -he would ignore enforcement and go right to amnesty-including criminals and terrorists-all to destroy America.

This is SOP for Democrats and now some Republicans, too. Our Democrat mayor, with the approval of our hometown senator and representative, waylaid a chunk of the funds intended for the new bridge project. He used the money for wifi for our buses. It was all done out loud and in front of everyone. He just thought it should be used for the "poor" people riding the buses who probably will never use the bridges...unless, of course, they go to the Indiana side to gamble. Poor things.

Now the tax-paying drivers will pay bridge tolls from now until the Second Coming to pay for the bridge. Thank you, Mitch McConnell, Greg Fischer, John Yarmuth...thieves all of you!

Wisconsin ´John Doe´ probe is the latest
partisan attack on free speech
Washington Examiner, by Steve Forbes    Original Article

Score one for the defense of free speech. Earlier this year, a Wisconsin judge overseeing the secret “John Doe” investigation of conservative groups terminated multiple subpoenas that were used to seize their communications and other records. While this is a victory for First Amendment rights, the abuses continue with the intent to sideline all conservatives before the state´s 2014 elections. More ominously, it appears to be part of a larger effort by left-leaning government officials to use campaign finance rules against one party, despite the law.

The crowing by the Obama administration over getting 7 million people to sign up for mandatory health insurance—with some portion actually paying for it—will soon fade. The big picture will remain clear: Obamacare isn’t working. And Americans, who didn’t like Obamacare when the Democrats passed it four years ago, don’t like it now, don’t want it to remain, and doubt it can be fixed. But they also don’t much want to go back to the pre-Obamacare world. According to Real Clear Politics, a recent ABC News/Washington Post poll of registered voters was the 111th consecutive poll to find more opposition to Obamacare

GOP ramps up planning to replace
Obamacare as Senate prospects rise
Washington Examiner, by David M. Drucker    Original Article
Posted By: grace52- 3/28/2014 10:31:05 AM     Post Reply
The Republican Party´s rising Senate prospects are forcing House Republicans to craft a health care agenda that could function as a feasible legislative blueprint for overhauling Obamacare in January 2015. The Republican-controlled House has approved legislation to repeal the Affordable Care Act and reform aspects of the law several times, only to see the bills die in a Democratic-led Senate that is committed to preserving the law. That dynamic would change if Republicans win six Democratic-held seats and assume control of the Senate in November, as appears increasingly possible.

In 2008, both Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain supported defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman. In 2012, only Republican Mitt Romney supported traditional marriage, Obama having announced a change of heart six months before the election. What about 2016? It´s impossible to imagine a Democratic candidate not supporting the redefinition of marriage. As for Republicans, it´s hard to see a gay-marriage-supporting candidate make it through the GOP primaries.

Eighteen of the 32 top management jobs in the federal agency that is "ground zero" for running Obamacare are either vacant or filled on an acting basis. The agency is the Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight. Its problems start at the top. Gary Cohen´s last day as CCIIO´s deputy administrator after less than two years on the job will be March 31, the latest departure from the agency. Including Cohen´s position, more than half of the most important jobs in CCIIO are either vacant or held by caretaking “acting directors.”

One of the nation´s leading Democratic pollsters and strategists is urging embattled House and Senate incumbents to abandon their defense of Obamacare and instead pledge to “fix it.” Celinda Lake, whose firm Lake Research Partners provided the Democratic analysis of the new George Washington University Battleground Poll released Tuesday morning, summed up her advice to Democrats when it comes to Obamacare: “Don´t defend it.” In unveiling the poll, she said that the new Democratic strategy should be for candidates to promise to fix the troubled system while pledging to help keep Americans out of the claws of greedy insurance firms.

Job security declining for people in unions

Economist Allison Schrager points out a little-noticed shift in the workforce that explains part of the membership problem Big Labor is facing: Union members are now experiencing declining job security. This is notable because job security is a key benefit to joining a union in the first place. Unions are supposed to pressure companies to preserve positions, even in hard times. But even union-dominated industries have seen mass layoffs in recent decades. Also, many of the other benefits that unions provide, like pensions, are only available to people who remain at their jobs for set periods.

It would be ironic if Hillary Clinton had a second presidential campaign torpedoed because of another politician´s foreign policy. People don´t much remember it now, but before Hope ´n´ Change Mania swept the country, Sen. Barack Obama shot to the lead in Iowa based almost entirely on drawing contrasts with Sen. Hillary Clinton concerning Iraq. Go re-read the speech he gave at Iowa´s Jefferson-Jackson dinner in Des Moines, shortly before he took off in the polls in November of 2007. Here´s the key passage:

With New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie stalled by the “Bridgegate” affair, former Florida Gov. Nuclear option fallout

When Senate Democrats executed the so-called nuclear option last year and changed their chamber´s rules for votes on President Obama´s nominees, administration officials breathed a sigh of relief. As long as the nominees were qualified, they thought Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., could push them through a deeply divided Senate with a simple majority, not the 60-vote threshold previously required to end debate and proceed to a final up-or-down vote. The Senate Democratic caucus has 55 members so there appeared to be little Republicans could do to prevent the chamber from rubber-stamping Obama´s picks.

It is reminiscent of the quandary faced by General Maurice Gamelin on the evening of May 15, 1940. Suddenly he realized that German panzer troops had broken through the supposedly impassable Ardennes. French troops to the north were cut off and rendered useless, troops to the south were falling back in disarray on all sides and no reserves were available between the front and Paris. “Yes,” he told the prime minister, “it means the destruction of the French Army.” Now, analogies between military history and politics are never exact, and no one in American politics remotely resembles the Nazis.

LONDON - Peaches Geldof, the wild-child second daughter of concert organizer Bob Geldof who worked as a model, a television presenter and a fashion writer and filled the pages of British tabloids with her late-night antics, has died at age 25. There was no immediate word on the cause of her death at her home in Wrotham, Kent, southeast England. Her father said in a statement Monday: "Peaches has died. We are beyond pain." "She was the wildest, funniest, cleverest, wittiest and the most bonkers of all of us," he said. "Writing 'was' destroys me afresh. What a beautiful child. How is this possible that we will not see her again? How is that bearable? We loved her and will cherish her forever."

A caveat right off the bat: RAND’s estimate only runs through March 28 whereas the actual deadline for signing up was March 31st. Given the crush of traffic on Healthcare.gov in late March, many more people could have signed up over those last three days than were captured by these numbers. On the other hand, the White House was claiming six million sign-ups as of March 27. There’s no way to reconcile that with RAND’s data. One of them is wrong. Maybe both, in fact.
