Wendy Davis Supports Open Carry Law

AUSTIN, Texas — The Wild West tradition of openly carrying your six-shooter on the street has long been banned in Texas under state law. But the next governor could change that. Rising Democratic star and gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis has joined her top Republican rival in supporting a proposed "open carry" law. It would allow people with concealed handgun licenses to wear a pistol on their hip, in full view, while in public. Davis has said she supports expanding gun rights in Texas. In a statement to The Associated Press, she said that includes open-carry — a position that puts her at

Comments:
Poor Wendy clumsily steps in another hole. Texas Republican voters don´t believe her and Texas Democrats are furious with her.

Open carry law for a bag of weed, a lifetime supply of RU 486 and a free membership to sugardaddy.com would be more accurate.

True open carry does not require a permit. See Arizona (prior to its new law that doesn´t require permits to carry concealed).

Well that´s pretty dumb. Then what´s the point of having a concealed permit ?

Thanks Wendy but the Founders already gave the CITIZENS the 2A. Democrats are still trying put back back restrictions on non-whites from being able to protect themselves, their family and personal property.

Texas is just one of 5 states (plus DC) that does not permit Open Carry of handguns. Oklahoma just approved OC and it is working very well up there. Texas allows OC of long guns - rifles - but that is kind of awkward and scary to urban dwellers, which is the bulk of Texas now.

The reason OC of guns was restricted in Texas was that - back before the Federal Government allowed millions of illegals into Texas - police were more than adequate to deal with Bad Guys running amuck. Now whereever your go you are at personal risk of robbery, rape and murder.

Don´t be too hard on the reporter, #12. For all its "Wild West" reputation, Texas is pretty restrictive on handguns. The only way to legally carry one on your person outside of your vehicle or private property is with a CCL, and it must be concealed. I gather what´s being proposed now is a generalized carry permit, concealed or open. Not much of an improvement really, unless it leads ultimately to real "open carry" or, better, Vermont-style "constitutional carry."

The big problem with ´open carry´ is that individual businesses will ban guns completely, including concealed carry, because a lot of their customers are uncomfortable around guns. A few yahoos that will try to enter stores with AR-15 type weapons slung over their shoulders will ruin it for everybody. Look at Mississippi, because that´s how it´s working there!

Advice to Democrats: Don´t say ´recovery´

WASHINGTON - Election-year memo to Democratic candidates: Don´t talk about the economic recovery. It´s a political loser. So say Democratic strategists in a blunt declaration that such talk skips over "how much trouble people are in, and doesn´t convince them that policymakers really understand or are even focusing on the problems they continue to face." In addition, Stan Greenberg, James Carville and others wrote that in head-to-head polling tests the mere mention of the word "recovery" is trumped by a Republican assertion that the Obama administration has had six years to get the economy moving and its policies haven´t worked. President Obama has warned that Iran is not open for business, even as the United States has loosened some of its punishing economic sanctions as part of an interim nuclear pact. Yet, on Tuesday morning, Iran had an unlikely visitor: a plane, owned by the Bank of Utah, a community bank in Ogden that has 13 branches throughout the state. Bearing a small American flag on its tail, the aircraft was parked in a highly visible section of Mehrabad Airport in Tehran. But from there, the story surrounding the plane, and why it was in Iran — where all but a few

Saying they can no longer ignore the rising prices of health care, some of the most influential medical groups in the nation are recommending that doctors weigh the costs, not just the effectiveness of treatments, as they make decisions about patient care. The shift, little noticed outside the medical establishment but already controversial inside it, suggests that doctors are starting to redefine their roles, from being concerned exclusively about individual patients to exerting influence on how health care dollars are spent. “We understand that we doctors should be and are stewards of the larger society as well as of the patient in

Hillary Clinton may end up deciding she wants to spend the 935 days until election 2016 making corporate speeches and spoiling her grandchild. Recent events have exposed weaknesses in Clinton’s supposedly impregnable armor, gaps through which a Democratic or Republican challenger could damage, perhaps even defeat her. The bad headlines to which she has been subjected are enough to make anyone—anyone who isn’t a Clinton—think twice about running for president. Look at the polls. This week’s Fox News poll has Clinton’s favorable rating at its lowest point in six years. She is at 49 percent favorable, 45 percent unfavorable—similar to her

President Barack Obama used his Thursday press conference to diagnose Republicans as fear-mongering, spiteful, obstinate, petulant and obstructive, as he again declared mission-accomplished in his effort to put the nation’s health-care under government control. “I recognize that their party is going through the stages of grief — anger and denial and all that stuff — and we’re not at acceptance yet,” Obama told reporters, where he announced that his Obamacare network had claimed 8 million subscribers. Obama coupled his passive-voice diatribe with his more-in-sorrow-than-anger promise that he “would much prefer a constructive conversation with the Republicans about how do we get some
