Common Core and Unionitis
American Thinker, by Deana Chadwell

Common Core, Common Core, Common Core -- it´s all I hear these days, as if it were a new monster at the door of the schoolhouse, as if it had never occurred to anyone that we were losing control of our children´s education, as if no one had ever before noticed that school texts were full of propaganda. Of course it´s a dangerous thing to let the federal T-rex into the classroom -- I´m not debating that -- of course no good can come of it; no good has come of it. (Remember No Child Left Behind?) Common Core is

My son goes to the #1 rated school in our state. The hidden secret is that most of the students are being tutored in at least one subject.

Recently his math teacher, who is horrible, advised me he should go online an check out the various resources on her website, in other words, teach himself Algebra II.

I can´t help but wonder why she is receiving a paycheck.

I went to a somewhat ´´lower tier´´ suburban public school and graduated in 1978. While I do have some criticisms, mostly in the guidance area, looking back, I guess I was lucky. We had a some very good teachers and a pretty rich curriculum. My American Humor lit class was excellent, and I was also able to take specific courses in Steinbeck and Twain, among other college prep courses. Not sure what that school´s like now, and as I say there was alot to criticize, but they did OK by me.

Good teachers resign out of frustration.

Unions illegally promote Democratic candidates (offering teachers $$ and days off for campaigning) so that the money (laundering) continues to flow.

It is a vicious cycle. Too big, too powerful and too corrupt for an honest, talented and dedicated teacher to endure.

Yes the Unions are the key factor in the trashing of our so called ´Education System´ but there is an 800 lb. Gorilla lurking in the background that causes even more damage. It is precisely the Progressive Power Mindset. Bottom line they are destroying Education because Educated people learn how to ´THINK´...and the progressives are all about creating more Voters, commonly called ´useful idiots´! Look at the Marxist Manifesto...it is all about ´Indoctrinating the Young for that specific purpose.

We were transferred often with a large corporation and raised three sons in six different school districts. Our priority was always purchasing a home in the area that touted the BEST schools. One hard truth..........a school district is only as good as the individual teacher your child is assigned on any given year.

The "best" government school in town is simply the "richest" government school in town. We need to point that out. Your precious kids are getting pumped full of leftist propaganda whether it´s a rich or poor district.

About 10 investigators with Boston Fire´s Arson unit this morning entered the four-story brownstone on Beacon Street where six days ago a roaring blaze claimed the lives of two firefighters. The arson investigators entered the building around 10 a.m. On Wednesday, Lt. Edward Walsh and Michael Kennedy died after being trapped in the basement of the 298 Beacon St. building during the roaring 9-alarm blaze. Deputy Chief Joseph Finn, who commanded the firefighters last week and made the decision to pull firefighters from the wind-driven fire, was also on scene. A day after the flames thwarted his efforts to save Lt. Edward J. Walsh and firefighter Michael R. Kennedy in the basement of a blazing Beacon Street brownstone, Capt. Neal Mullane of Ladder 18 in South Boston, his own scalp gashed and burned, found himself drawn to the Back Bay firehouse that has become a kind of chapel for his grieving brethren. Mullane, 42, was one of the officers tapped at a moment’s notice to command as the Rapid Intervention Team at the nine-alarm fire. He described the desperate detail to the Herald’s Laurel J. NATO, for a while turning its gaze to regions far away, must again concentrate on defending its very self – gone is the age when it was hoped that Europe had embraced a great love for peace and danger no longer existed. JERUSALEM — The Palestinian militant group Islamic Jihad said Thursday it had agreed to halt a wave of rocket fire on Israel, signaling an end to the heaviest fighting between the sides since 2012, though soon after the announcement two rockets fired from Gaza exploded inside Israel. The Islamic Jihad denied it launched the attack and it wasn´t immediately unclear who fired the rockets. Cease-fire declarations have not always been honored by militants and the barrage raised doubts about the cease-fire offer made by Islamic Jihad. The Israeli military said a total of four rockets were fired Thursday from Gaza.

WASHINGTON — As the Republican field for 2016 stands today, Hillary Clinton doesn’t have much to worry about. In fact, for all the talk about Benghazi and Obamacare, she has a lot to be happy about. The drum-beating of the annual Conservative Political Action Conference — the GOP’s pre-presidential coming-out party — gave us a glimpse of the Republican future. And for the GOP, the future is bleak. Sen. Rand Paul officially won CPAC’s presidential straw poll. His message of libertarianism plays well with the small government crowd. Military groups and lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are vowing to fight proposed cuts to the Pentagon budget set to be unveiled next week that could increase the cost of living for American troops, veterans and their families. The military spending plan outlined by Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel on Monday calls for smaller pay rises and controversial reductions in housing allowances, health benefits and other subsidies for service members and retirees. "We know the Defense Department must make difficult budget decisions, but these cuts would hit service members, making it harder for them and their families to make ends meet,”

Naftogaz said on Feb. 13 it will imminently reduce gas deliveries to a “technical minimum.” Company spokesperson Olena Yurieva said that means enough will be given for pipes to not freeze. Energy experts disagreed on how much room temperatures will drop as a result. Oleksandr Todiychuk, head of international energy club Q-club, told Kommersant that temperatures could drop to

(Kyiv, Ukraine) Open warfare broke out on the streets of Kyiv today, with at least 22 persons reportedly killed and more than 1,000 people injured. It was a day of non-stop bloodletting, smoke, fire and screeching ambulances. The death toll was likely to rise as police went on the offensive after sundown, advancing on thousands of protesters on Independence Square at 8 p.m. with gunshots, a water cannon and an armored personnel carrier. Tents housing protesters were burning on the main square, a fire fueled by protesters with tires as a defense against police attacks.

The Muslim parents assert that the flyers – emblazoned with the word “Eggstravaganza!” – violate the separation of church and state widely ascribed to the First Amendment’s Establishment Clause, reports the Detroit Free Press. Students at three Dearborn elementary schools received the flyers. A large number of Muslim students attend the schools. Democrats are facing a senior problem that could get even worse this year. The party has traditionally had trouble with older voters, losing the group aged 65 and over by 21 points in 2010 — when Republicans picked up 63 seats — and by 12 points in the 2012 presidential race. Seniors are the GOP’s most reliable voting bloc in midterm years, turning out in higher numbers than Democratic base voters. A recent Gallup poll showed seniors have become even more Republican over the last two decades; in 2013, 48 percent considered themselves Republican. That spells trouble for Democrats, who are already facing
