Dark Money Rising
Townhall, by Conn Carroll

Original Article

Posted By:mikkins2, 2/2/2014 5:23:36 PM

October 28, 2013 the governors of California, Oregon, Washington, and the premier of British Columbia signed a pact pledging to take a variety of actions to reduce carbon emissions. Supporters hailed the agreement as a landmark effort to move away from fossil fuel-based energy and “green” the states’ various economies. California already had a cap and trade regime, and British Columbia had imposed a carbon tax in 2008. Supporters of the plan worried that the actual policies it called for would get tied up in Oregon and Washington. Republicans controlled the Washing- ton state senate, supporters noted, and they’d been cool to some

A bit of a read but worth it. Once again money´s influence in politics is everywhere and neither party is beyond reproach.

It´s not just the money. i disagree with OP about both parties doing it.
The NYT and all the MSM falsely vilified Koch brothers and AFP about the shutdown -which they did not engineer- and give a pass to Steyer and his Dark Money throughout the entire US for carbon credit scam and opposition to Keystone.
Rich liberals seek to control the Middle Class - libertarians seek to unshackle them from excessive taxes and regulations.
Liberals like Steyer want to inflict their vision on America- Koch brothers and AFP want to end the Obama nightmare.

Nothing wrong with carbon. There is a fixed number of carbon atoms on earth and it will never change. This whole scam is just wasted effort.

Finally, a Conservative Leader
American Spectator, by Samuel Gregg    Original Article

In the middle of 2013, a French journalist asked me who I thought was today’s outstanding center-right head of government. After a few moments’ thought, I responded: “She died in April. Requiescat in pace.” Looking around the world, the search for what might be called a full-spectrum conservative government leader was, until recently, a depressing exercise. On many issues, Britain’s Conservative Prime Minister David Cameron seems positively ill-at-ease with most of his own MPs (and certainly grass-roots Tories) who are more-than-a-few clicks to the right of him. Across the Channel, most European center-right governments are pursuing policies best described as

Citizens on the left and right agree that the government is in dire need of reform. So why are the political parties, including the Tea Party, of so little help when it comes to working for legitimate reform? Walking across New Hampshire last month, recruiting citizens in the “Live Free” state to the cause of fundamental reform—a 185 mile walk that we just finished, with about a hundred crossing the finishing line: read more here—I met a man who told me he was a “conservative Republican,” which, as he explained is “spelled ‘T E A P A R T Y.’”

Conservative radio host Laura Ingraham battled the rest of the Fox News Sunday panel over immigration, arguing that immigration reform and current enforcement of immigration laws were weakening the American workforce, even as her fellow panelists countered that reform would bolster the economy. “I think what we’re seeing here is a split inside the Republican Party between two staunch conservatives,” host Chris Wallace said, going on to ply Ingraham with a Wall Street Journal editorial that called flinching on reform “de facto amnesty.” “As far as I can tell, the Wall Street Journal is on the side of Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer,

A Republican senator facing a Tea Party challenger this year revealed that he doesn´t live in his home state, an admission likely to fuel an opposition that has already accused him of going native in the nation´s capitol. “I have full access to the recliner,” Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kan., told the New York Times, referring to the fact that the Kansas residence he listed as his voting address actually belongs to two donors. "He established his voting address there the day before his challenger, Milton Wolf, announced his candidacy last fall, arguing that Mr. Roberts was out of touch with his High

The American left has never had it this good. It has never had two terms of an unabashed and uncompromising leftist in the White House dedicated to its agenda functioning as a dictator without the military uniform, making and unmaking laws at a whim, siccing the IRS and Federal prosecutors on political enemies and transforming the country at a breathtaking pace. Obama is what generations of the left have dreamed of and worked toward. This is the flicker of hopethey kept alive after JFK’s assassination, the Nixon years, Carter’s collapse and the long stretch of Reaganomics. This is what Bill Clinton

Gen. George McClellan commanded Union forces during the Civil War. He famously and constantly retreated across the map despite having larger forces than Gen. Robert E. Lee. At one point, meeting with his generals in the White House, Abraham Lincoln commented, "If General McClellan does not want to use the army, I would like to borrow it for a time." Ultimately, Abraham Lincoln dismissed him. Gen. McCellan seems alive and well, having returned as the senior consultant to the Republican leadership on Capitol Hill. After Republicans regained control of the House of Representatives in January 2011, they fought a significant fight against

One of the reasons the national Republican Party is such a mess is because Republicans are far too reluctant to criticize their own. Republicans are nice people. Too many Republicans think it´s wrong to criticize other Republicans.{SNIP}Here is wisdom: if you, as a Republican, remain true to small-government principles, many of your worst enemies will be found in your own party, and they are likely to be much more vicious, petty, vindictive, and malicious than most of your adversaries on the left.

Will House Republican leaders bring up immigration reform after their primary season is over? Conservatives aggressively oppose the idea. While they acknowledged Wednesday that there were rumors to that effect, they warned Republicans would severely damage their relationship with their constituents if that strategy is tried. "When there is the rumor that immigration is going to be worked on after the filing deadline for primaries, everybody believes that at home. Because they think that the establishment, K Street, is going to pull that stunt because they don´t trust them," Rep. Tim Huelskamp, R-Kan., told the Washington Examiner. Rep. On my wife´s side, I have a very large family in Fairbanks, Alaska. Culturally, Fairbanks is a lot further from New York City (where I grew up) or Washington, D.C. (where I live now), than the several thousand miles on the map might suggest. Alaska wins a lot of comparisons, and not just the obvious ones such as physical beauty or salmon fishing. For instance, Alaska ranks second best in terms of economic equality (just behind Wyoming) while New York and the District of Columbia compete for dead last. Frankly, I don´t much care about the issue of income inequality beyond

A new break in the GOP´s debt-ceiling strategy emerged at a private lunch on Wednesday, where House Speaker John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) encouraged his allies to consider linking a restoration of recently cut military benefits with a one-year extension of the federal government´s borrowing authority. According to two people present at the lunch and two others familiar with the session, Boehner said the maneuver would likely force Democrats to join with Republicans and also win support from conservatives, who have been upset about changes to the military´s cost-of-living benefits, which were adjusted in December. Rep. Mick Mulvaney (R-SC) announced in a release he introduced a bill this week that would establish term limits for members of Congress. The bill would limit members of Congress—in both the House and the Senate—from serving more than 12 years in either chamber, or 24 years total between the two chambers. “Believe me, 24 years is more than enough time to serve in Washington,” Mulvaney said in a statement. (I actually pushed for much shorter terms but compromised at 12+12 in order to gain the support of additional co-sponsors). And I want to thank my friends Steve Scalise (R-La.), Reid Ribble (R-Wis.)

It was the perfect Christmas tableau at the Allen-Farrow household: There sat Mia and nine of her children around the dinner table. Long before the scandals — Woody taking off with Mia’s adopted teen daughter Soon-Yi, Mia accusing Woody of molesting their 7-year-old daughter, Dylan — the Allen-Farrow family was regarded as the ultimate cosmopolitan clan, a multiracial brood of 11 children,

BAGHDAD — A group of Sunni militants attending a suicide bombing training class at a camp north of Baghdad were killed on Monday when their commander unwittingly conducted a demonstration with a belt that was packed with explosives, army and police officials said. The militants belonged to a group known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, or ISIS, which is fighting the Shiite-dominated army of the Iraqi government, mostly in Anbar Province. But they are also linked to bomb attacks elsewhere and other fighting that has thrown Iraq deeper into sectarian violence.

President Obama has broken many promises. One that he has not broken is his boast that he would "fundamentally transform America." He and his fellow Democrats are on the verge of doing just that by turning us into a nation of loafers. A loafer is an idle person who lives off others. Barack Obama seemingly has no problem with such people. He might even relate to them. He does have a serious problem with his own work ethic, and finds work boring. Powerful winds in the Pacific Ocean, which have driven surface heat deep underwater, could be the reason behind the current ‘pause’ in global warming. This is according to a joint Australian and U.S. study which has looked at why there has been a slowdown in the planet’s global average surface temperature over the past decade. Their research shows that trade winds in central and eastern parts of the Pacific have caused warm surface water to sink to the ocean´s depths, reducing the amount of heat in the atmosphere. Last year, scientists on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) said the pace of

From its inception, the strategy behind the Obama administration’s implementation of ObamaCare has been simple: to frontload the benefits and postpone the pain and costs of this massive government intrusion into the private sector for as long as possible. This deceitful approach enabled President Obama run for reelection in 2012 on the spurious promise of extending insurance coverage to the poor and those with pre-existing conditions without being held accountable for the problems with the law that would only become apparent in his second term.
