President Obama may accept deal offering
11 million undocumented immigrants legal status

WASHINGTON — In a major shift, President Obama on Friday opened the door to a potential election-year compromise on the contentious issue of immigration reform. Obama said for the first time that he might accept a deal that would offer the 11 million undocumented immigrants in the U.S. legal status instead of full citizenship. House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and other Republican leaders had floated just such a proposal on Thursday.Until now, Obama and other Democrats insisted that any compromise on immigration reform contain a path to full citizenship.Anything short of that, they said, would create a two-tiered class system. It is to smile. Barack Obama is desperately grabbing at any life ring. "Legal status" is short of a green card (permanent residence) and is waaaaaayyyy short of what the Dems were demanding.

We´ll see what the rest of the offer contains.

This is just step one. Step two is citizenship with voting rights and that will occur sooner than the House Republican leadership could imagine possible. Most likely in time for the 2016 election you can count on that. The Supreme Court will side with the Democrats on that issue. What a bunch of idiots we have in the GOP leadership. Good bye Republic good bye GOP which is stuck on stupid.

Of course Obama would do that, as the "special path to citizenship" recently invented by the liberal Democrats, that was never included in any past amnesty, is a liberal Democrat ploy designed to move their amnesty negotiating goalposts away to the left, knowing that the Republicans would never be able to accept that, and knowing that eventually when the Republicans, egged on by their big business supporters, eventually cave on another amnesty, that the "special path to citizenship" ploy would be removed from the final bill, thus giving the Republicans phony political cover to claim that they kept the liberal Democrats from giving millions of illegal aliens a "special path to citizenship" that was bogus from the get-go. The result of all that will be essentially a final solution similar to the 1986 amnesty where a streamlined adjudication process will ensure that just about every illegal alien who applies, including a huge number who sneak into the USA during the two to three year amnesty application period, will be granted amnesty, then will be quietly be made permanent residents with eligibility to move on to citizenship, and most important to the Democrats, US voting rights in the years ahead. Out of all that the Republicans will get to tell their big business supporters that they legalized a mass of cheap foreign labor for them, and the average American will be the third man or woman out in a political process that will not stop future mass illegal immigration to this country.

Obviously, the answer to illegal invaders is to get them registered- that´s a form of legal status. The second answer is to get them green cards. They are here to earn. So, if we are not going to disallow that, then let them. Besides- most of the illegal movtivation is from employers- business that deeply depend on them. There is nothing wrong with that.

Here is why: It retains them as Mexican Citizens- not Americans. It eventually would allow a cross border agreement for both reimbursal for their care. It also keeps legal tabs on their kids. It also shows a registration status that would keep them outside the voter registrations. It could also keep them off the Social Security status (probably will not happen)

To have 18 million "ghost" people walking around inside your borders is nuts. We have simpy Got to do something. This is never going to get resolved if we don´t start counting them officially.

One thing is certainly never going to happen: rounding them up and deporting them by force- Not ever!

We simply must face reality on this issue.

Just what poster #7 said. It´s soo simple to "game" the idiots like Ryan and Boehner. They are massively stupid.

As soon as they get legal status, then the likes of Chuck Schumer will whine how this is unfair that we take their taxes and not allow them to vote bla, bla, bla,..."No taxation without representation." bla, bla, bla... It goes on and on until the Democrats get what they wanted all along. At that point that is the end of this republic and the Republican Party as we know it.

I can see granting illegal aliens with no criminal record a limited legal status -- but not citizenship. Instead, after paying a fine, a special class of green card should be issued that will allow them to work legally, but does not grant citizenship.

This would document these aliens and provide the protection of our labor laws so that they cannot be abused by unscrupulous employers. At the same time, they would be denied the reward of US citizenship because they entering the country illegally. Employers would have no excuse for employing undocumented aliens. Allowing them to apply for citizenship, after an extended waiting period, should be considered in the future. In the mean time, our immigration laws should be revised to make them less restrictive.

This would work to mitigate a situation caused by our overly restrictive immigration laws while requiring illegal aliens to acknowledging their transgression to obtain legal status. If citizenship is to granted in the future, it should be earned! It should not be given away as an undeserved gift!

The only reason politicians want to reward these illegal aliens, who have broken our laws, with citizenship is to create a beholden voting block.

Dual status solutions never work and never last.

Republicans behind this foolishness think that legalization will end the demand for full amnesty ending in citizenship.

Liberals see legalization as just a temporary stop on the path to full citizenship.

Once the illegals are legalized it is only one SCOTUS decision away from becoming citizens. And you can bet that as soon as an agreement is in place there will be plenty of challanges claiming a dual status is unconstitutional.

And John Roberts is there, waiting to render another decision in the democrats favor.

The Democrats really don´t care if the illegal alien population is immediately given a duel-national status, essentially allowed to maintain their foreign citizenship while being granted US citizenship right away.

You see the vast majority of the aliens who would be legalized are poor, generally uneducated, low wage earning people, who once they get their foreign families here will need to be highly subsidized through all sorts of social welfare programs to survive at what the liberal Democrats consider an exceptable living standard in this country. In other words the vast majority of them will be natural potential Democrat voters.

Once the liberal Democrats have that many, probably about 20 million, potential new foreign born voters with some sort of a legal immigration status sitting out there, just that fact alone is bound to scare the hell out of the wimpy Republicans and to liberalize Republican political positions on a host of liberal Democrat social welfare priorities, as the Republicans certainly won´t want to discombobulate all those potential new Democrat voters, who once they attain US voting rights will start voting for the Democrats at a percentage of about 85%, to about 15% for the Republicans, as such legalized aliens have always done in the past. Then at the same time there will be a new wave of illegal aliens coming in the USA encouraged by the amnesty, to blunt that future silent invasion, the Democrats and some cheap labor Republicans want to give them a worker visa status right from the get-go.

Can we take care of the 90 million unemployed Americans first? Is that really too much to ask of either party, especially the GOP?

I have heard the argument that it would be impossible to ´round ups and deport" all the illegals used as a way to dismiss anything but legalization or citizenship.

That is a straw man argument. A roundup is not the only way that could be achieved. If there is no work due to severe employer penalties (including jail time for blatant violations), they will leave. It has been effective in every state that has implemented such laws. I think we should try that on a national level WITH actual enforcement at the state level (not by Holder´s Justice Department).

Why is it that America has to reform anything? These people came here ILLEGALLY, that makes them law breakers.

Let me suggest this solution to immigration reform.DEPORT any one who came here illegally!

Why is it native born Americans get screwed anytime the government wants to institute immigration reform?

Bottom line, none of the amnesty proposals mentioned so far will stop future mass illegal immigration into the USA in the future. They are designed to take some heat off the politicians by temporarily reducing the illegal aliens population group numbers that are making a lot of Americans nervous. While at the same time potentially supercharging future Democrat voter demographics that will come into play big time in the years ahead, while allowing the Republicans to tell their business supporters that they legalized a large mass of cheap foreign labor to keep wage rates down, and ensure that income inequality gets worse across the land, thus giving the progressives another populist talking point.

A triumphant President Barack Obama declared Tuesday his signature medical insurance overhaul a success, saying it has made America´s health care system ´a lot better´ in a Rose Garden press conference. But buried in the 7.1 million enrollments he announced in a heavily staged appearance is a more unsettling reality. Nearly a year into the IRS scandal, we still don´t know exactly what happened—though we are finally getting an inkling.
