BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Donald Trump is one man who is known for speaking his mind. On Friday night he was in town to host an Erie County Republican party fundraiser. About 600 guests attended the Erie County Republican Committee´s Lincoln Leadership Reception at Salvatore´s Italian Gardens in Depew. During prepared remarks at the podium Trump assailed New York State´s high tax rate and criticized the SAFE Act gun control legislation, which he called a "disaster." In a subsequent question-and-answer session with reporters he reasserted his intention to run only if

Comments:
This was Trump´s first Upstate New York exploration of a run against Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo. He´s said if he wants he can put up $200 million against Cuomo´s $33 million war chest.

His talk was aired live on a local radio show. First time I´ve ever heard the Donald speak extemporaneously for more than 30 seconds but it was enlightening. Here is what I learned:
-He´s an interesting, very smart and personable man.
-He knows how to work with other people to get things done - from Ed Koch to Michael Bloomberg to Andy Cuomo to Rudy Guilian.
-He does not seem like someone who is petty or who holds personal grudges. Live and let live guy, perhaps.
-Other people know they can count on him to get things done, moving through regulatory barriers efficiently.
-He knows everybody. (He mentioned that several times).
-He understands the ineptness of Mr. Cox and the NYS Republican Party poopers.
-He will not go through a primary fiasco with an unknown GOP candidate who has neither name recognition or money or the ability to raise money.
-He loves New York State/City; he is a New Yorker.
-He has strong relationships with his children.
-If he has an ideological bent he doesn´t much let on.

Would he be a good governor? I don´t know. Would he offer a credible alternate to Andrew "Thug" Cuomo? Possibly. Will watch and see.

Hamilton, N.Y. - If Hillary Rodham Clinton was a candidate for president, the terms "scorched earth" and "evidence-free zone" would likely be household terms. [Snip] Her first public speech was Oct. 4 at Hamilton College, in Clinton. She spoke at the University of Buffalo on Wednesday. She said she visited Corning, Inc. earlier Friday. Her talks are essentially a briefing on the state of the world with context about the way others view a country that shut down its government and fought to the brink of a debt crisis. Washington - Both of Western New York’s Republican congressmen find themselves backpedaling furiously from the tea party strategy they supported that led the nation to a 16-day government shutdown as well as the brink of default. Both Rep. Chris Collins of Clarence and Rep. Collins, in an interview, blamed the failed strategy on Sen. Ted Cruz [Snip]. “I think Sen. Cruz has done a disservice to the Republican Party,” Collins said.

A new review is questioning the effectiveness of two key drugs enlisted in the fight against influenza and in turn the investments by governments to stockpile the drugs in the event of a global flu outbreak. The antiviral drugs Tamiflu (oseltamivir) and Relenza (zanamivir ) are commonly used to treat influenza in healthy adults and children. In the case of Tamiflu, the drug does shorten symptoms of influenza by about half a day - as the manufacturer suggests - but there is insufficient evidence to support claims that it reduces hospital admissions or serious complications, such as confirmed pneumonia or

Solar power has won the global argument. Photovoltaic energy is already so cheap that it competes with oil, diesel and liquefied natural gas in much of Asia without subsidies. Roughly 29pc of electricity capacity added in America last year came from solar, rising to 100pc even in Massachusetts and Vermont.[Snip] The technology is improving so fast--helped by the US military--that it has achieved a virtous circle.
