The Cheerios ad and MSNBC’s
apologetic pathology

Washington Post, by Eric Wemple

Original Article

MSNBC is now advancing its mastery of the apology. Here’s the network’s official Twitter account:(Snip for series of tweets)The Cheerios ad is in the video at the top of this post; it features a biracial family in a very cute moment with a certain General Mills cereal right in the thick of things. (Snip)The string of offenses raises doubts about Wolffe’s claim that the tweet from last night doesn’t reflect “who we are at msnbc.” Rather, the tweet appears to a careful observer to define precisely what MSNBC is becoming: A place that offends and apologizes with equal vigor.

It has become such a running theme with them lately they might just as well keep a crawling apology (similar to an apology crawl, only more groveling) on the screen 24/7 and change their logo to: "MSNBC We´re the Sorriest Network on the Planet"

Who told them conservatives didn´t like this commercial because of the mixed race parentage? I think it´s cute and only just noticed dad was black and mom was white. Liberals have no concept of truth.

I have a theory about race in the U.S. Having grown up in a pretty well ethnically diverse area I was shocked when I moved east to find that race was a big issue. Then came the era of affirmative action and the obsessive preoccupation with all things race including the suspicion that everyone was a secret racist if they dared criticize anyone of color. My hunch is that those who harbored feelings of racism were the very ones who accused others of racism in some sort of bizarre and twisted attempt to purge themselves of guilt about their own racism. Those of us who grew up in an atmosphere of acceptance free of racist inclinations are always shocked at this response since race hasn´t occurred to us in each instance. These people are truly trying to pay a sort of atonement for their sins and in the process engage in a sick kind of projection toward everyone else.

A good shrink needs to explain to the misfits at MSNBC the meaning of "projection".
They are all ticked off and attack conservatives based on THEIR false ideas of what conservatives really are, and build anger and resentment for something that hasn´t happened and isn´t true. MSNBC is full of Sickos.

A commercial very similar to this one (different white actress portrays wife) has been airing in Texas for over a year. I´m sure MSNBC would expect us knuckle dragging, gun toting Texans to be in a racist froth of outrage. Not a whiff of controversy over the ad...anywhere, ever. They are just trapped in their own hateful racist hell. I wouldn´t want to be like them.

I am sick of the Cheerios ad kerfuffle. It has taken over Fox News, even taking Megyn away from her (better) new program to her former ranting that drove many of us away from her daytime gig.

MSNBC is the lowest. They do what they do. The best way to combat it is to ignore this channel. Boycott it. Stay away. Their slumping ratings (already on the way down) are the best punishment.

The Cheerios people were very clever to get all that free publicity for their commercial through creative casting. I wonder if they were counting on a prejudiced remark from the right or something like the bigoted remark that assumes the racial prejudice of the right that they actually got. Given the obvious and rampant political correctness in our society today, nobody is going to publicly mention that they even notice the race of the individuals in that commercial much less comment on it. Well, that is except those who consider themselves to be so pure they are above being suspected of prejudice, that is most liberals. So I suspect the Cheerios people were counting on something like what actually happened.

Prescription drugs: Harder to get in O-Care?

ObamaCare participants are twice as likely to face administrative barriers to using certain prescription drugs as people who receive health coverage through an employer, according to a new analysis. The research from consulting firm Avalere Health points to a little-known facet of policies on the ObamaCare exchanges known as "utilization management controls." The controls allow insurance companies to limit access to certain medications to try and control costs and prevent abuse. People who enroll in ObamaCare plans are likely to encounter the hurdles if they´re prescribed brand-name cancer or mental health drugs, Avalere found. At least 51 percent of brand-name mental health meds

Most people (53 percent) now disapprove of Obamacare, compared with 41 percent who approve. Indeed, just a week before the deadline to buy health insurance on the Obamacare exchanges, opposition to the law is as high as the annual cap on out-of-pocket expenses for a family plan at the Bronze level. The bigger problem? Many uninsured people have no idea what that last sentence means. For a new study released today in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, researchers asked 3,414 Americans a battery of questions about Obamacare. Since most people get health insurance through work, they also

The Supreme Court was hearing arguments Tuesday in a landmark religion-based legal challenge from family-owned companies that object to covering certain contraceptives in their health plans under ObamaCare. The case challenges the health care law´s so-called "contraceptive mandate," which requires employers to offer health plans with a range of services at no extra charge, including all forms of birth control for women that have been approved by federal regulators. Some of the nearly 50 businesses that have sued over covering contraceptives object to paying for all forms of birth control. But the companies involved in the high court case are willing to

President Obama is unwilling to engage militarily in Syria. Assad’s butchery has not moved him, nor have the 150,000 deaths produced thus far by the civil war. When Assad and his Hezbollah/Iran backers crossed the “red line” by using chemical weapons, Obama punted. He has even been unwilling to provide meaningful assistance to Assad’s non-radical opponents. In Iraq, Obama opted for a total U.S. pullout. He appears poised for a similar pullout in Afghanistan, which would mean abandoning those Afghans who put their life on the line to support his surge. In addition, Obama has thus far turned down requests for arms

The Roosevelt administration once talked loudly of pivoting to Asia to thwart a rising Japan. As a token of its seriousness, in May 1940 it moved the home port of the Seventh Fleet from San Diego to Pearl Harbor — but without beefing up the fleet’s strength. The then-commander of the Pacific Fleet, Admiral James O. Richardson, an expert on the Japanese Imperial Navy, protested vehemently over such a reckless redeployment. He felt that the move might invite, but could not guard against, surprise attack. Richardson was eventually relieved of his command and his career was ruined — even as he was

Most political pundits believe that the November 2014 elections spell serious trouble for Democrats. Not so fast. Despite their blustering for the benefit of their friends in the apparatchik press, the party appears to have conceded that it can’t regain a majority in the House of Representatives. One might therefore think that Republicans have a chance of greatly expanding their current 33-seat House advantage. That doesn’t seem likely. It’s difficult to overestimate how much harm supposedly helpful GOP gerrymandering in certain red states has done in the current situation. For example, in Ohio, the state’s GOP-dominated apportionment board “cleverly” carved out four heavy-majority
