Maine’s highest court: Transgender
student’s rights were violated

Portland (Maine) Press-Herald, by Matt Byrne

Original Article

Posted By:KarenJ1, 1/31/2014 7:41:52 PM

The rights of a transgender girl from Orono were violated when school administrators made her use a staff bathroom at her elementary school instead of the girls’ restroom, the Maine Supreme Judicial Court ruled Thursday. The ruling is the first in which a state supreme court has affirmed a transgender person’s right to equal access to restrooms in places of public accommodation. Lawyers representing Nicole Maines, who is now 16, said the decision could lay a foundation for other states’ courts that are facing questions about the emerging rights of people who identify as the opposite of their birth gender.

Comments:
Another state bits the dust. How long before this cancer spreads across the whole country? It is just infuriating that a tiny minority is allowed to rule over and destroy the majority. It takes almost to the end of the first page of the article to find out that "Nicole" was born born Wyatt Maines – had identified as a girl since as early as age 2.

Pitiful. Last Sunday, during his homily, our Pastor repeatedly referred to "this once great Nation". He is usually a really upbeat and optimistic guy. To hear these words from him was stunning and sad.

Wyatt as a young child had a normal, healthy, naturally male body and a confused mind.

His parents made the decision to sabotage his healthy body to match his confused mind, rather than heal his mind to be in harmony with his body.

All the doctors involved are guilty of gross ethical violation. They should lose their licenses.

No matter which side you are on, this will not end well. Sooner are later some smarty will sexually abuse the person in a restroom.

Again today when I entered a public restroom, a ´ify´ was leaving. It´s very unsettling. At the same place, I have no idea if a cashier is a boy or girl in a cheap wig. Worse yet, I called an older she a ´he´ in a conversation when paying for my gas.

A two year old child is in no condition to decide it´s gender identification. It would be the odd parent who would disagree with that.

Common sense will tell you that mixing genders in school bathrooms will end up creating all sorts of unintended consequences.

Were my child in this school, I would strictly instruct her to leave the restroom and wait in the hall while this person was in there doing their business. If the teachers had a problem with this, they could call me and I would explain like this:

When I was a child, I had a horse. I loved that horse with its shiny mane and sturdy features. It had a custom saddle and a strong back and could run like the wind. I rode it every day and cared for it carefully before bed each night.

When I got older, I saw the truth about my precious horse - it was a broomstick with yarn on each end, a chunk of leather on wood that was fashioned from woodshop scraps and a bag of sawdust for a face. Oh, I still loved my horse, but I saw the truth. You can dress up a piece of wood, throw whatever you want on it and call it whatever you like, but underneath it all, when the dust settles and the truth is evident, in the end it is still just a broomstick with yarn on it - NOT A HORSE!!!

It’s not every day that Bill O’Reilly accuses someone else of expressing “right-wing paranoia,” but that’s what happened Tuesday night when he faced off with Fox News contributor Monica Crowley over a proposed solution to the controversy over voter ID laws. O’Reilly began his show by giving a soft endorsement to an idea put forward by former President Bill Clinton that would add photos to social security cards, which American citizens are already required to have in their possession. “I am all for combating voter fraud by using voter I.D.,” Crowley told O’Reilly. “My issue with the social security card in particular

Sylvia Mathews Burwell, President Obama’s nominee to lead the country’s health care overhaul, remains entangled in a lawsuit brought by shareholders of MetLife accusing her of misleading investors as a director of one of the country’s biggest insurance companies. The federal lawsuit, filed in New York, says the company used a Social Security death index to stop making payments when beneficiaries died, but the company wasn’t as diligent about using the database to track deaths of its policyholders, which triggers payouts, the lawsuit said. Last year, a judge refused to toss a federal lawsuit against the company, including claims against Ms. Burwell

A Republican congressman has introduced a bill that would stop government paychecks for officials who have been found in contempt of Congress — a move that seems designed in the short term to go after Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. Mr. Holder has refused to cooperate with the House GOP’s probe into the Fast & Furious gun-walking operation, and the House has voted to find him in contempt. Mr. Holder is challenging that vote in court. Rep. The New York Police Department has abandoned a secretive program that dispatched plainclothes detectives into Muslim neighborhoods to eavesdrop on conversations and built detailed files on where people ate, prayed and shopped, the department said. The decision by the nation’s largest police force to shutter the surveillance program represents the first sign that William J. Bratton, the department’s new commissioner, is backing away from some of the post-9/11 intelligence-gathering practices of his predecessor. The move comes as the federal government reconsiders and re-evaluates some of its post-9/11 policies, including the National Security Agency’s bulk data collection.

Wilkinson detailed the fact that income inequality between whites and blacks is worse in leftist cities: Minneapolis-St. Paul. San Francisco. Chicago. Even Madison, Wisconsin. If you are politically liberal and value relatively high levels of income equality, you might live in one of these quintessentially liberal U.S. cities. Yet all four lurk in the bottom half of the 2014 National Urban League’s State of Black America report on income inequality between blacks and whites. Although the Civil Rights Act, the landmark legislation which just reached its 50th anniversary, made great strides in desegregating the economy, economic discrimination is still widespread, and anti-discrimination legislation alone can never rectify the economic damage inflicted upon blacks by slavery and our Jim Crow apartheid regime. The Civil Rights Act was a mild reform, all things considered, but one conservatives fought with vigor and one many conservatives are still bitter about to this day. When the Civil Rights Act passed in 1964, the primary purpose was to root out discrimination in public accommodations (like hotels and movie theaters)

Ship commanders considered the actions provocative and inconsistent with international agreements, prompting the ship to issue several radio queries and warnings.
