GOP’s devious immigration trick:
Why Democrats have a looming dilemma

Salon Magazine, by Brian Beutler

After talking it over with John Boehner last night, Joe Biden says he’s pretty confident that House Republicans will be able to pass a consensus immigration reform bill. According to Nancy Pelosi, she believes Republicans will adopt a reasonable position on immigration reform that most if not all Democrats will ultimately support. In his State of the Union address, President Obama was much less critical of House Republicans for stalling immigration reform — “Republicans and Democrats in the Senate have acted, I know that members of both parties in the House want to do the same” — than for allowing emergency unemployment

Roger L. Simon, over at PJ Media, has a similar suggestion: a legal right to stay, but NEVER allowed to vote.

Along with these convoluted potential outcomes, no mention of whether the legalized get to collect Social Security, Medicare, etc. while they wait for what seems to be their ´inevitable Green Cards´.
Of course they will collect from those programs. And those programs are heavily designed to favor those who pay in the least to the programs.

Will the massive new burdens on SS, Medicare, etc. be added to the estimated costs of this foul and treacherous legislation?
Of course they won´t. Instead we will focus only on how much those additional low-income semi-citizens are bound to add to the nations economy on a total but not on a per capital basis. That is, amnesty may make our economy grow, but at the cost of lower growth per capita.

I cant believe this is even a serious argument. Its the same as debt limits and spending limits. Its all for for show and no one in the Republican Establishment has any intention of sticking to it, let alone making the democrat party abide by it. History and Google are all you need to see how idiotic this theory is.

Seriously. How stupid do you actually think the conservative base is? I realize you are grasping at straws trying desperately to defend the Republican Establishment and they haven´t left you much ammo but dang!

And your still a Republican because.....?

This whole ´unjust´ business is so much Bovine Scatalogy. Overwhelming percentage of the 11 million illegals who came here as adults are frankly not interested in citizenship, they want legalization and an opportunity to live their lives I peace. It is Nancy Pelosi and Chucky Schumer who are hung up on it. Offering quick legalization with a well earned path to citizenship reserved only for those who were brought here as minors or were born here is a very viable option. The others are in a different class compared to citizens because they broke the law, not because they are brown skinned and speak with a Speedy Gonzales accent.

And can the "legalized" bring their extended family members over the border too? The vast majority of these illegal invaders are males with wives and kids back home getting money wired to them to survive. Bringing them to the US for free everything will collapse our entire ´social safety net´, which is already strained to the breaking point.

There are some good GOP plans in the works, both in the House and the Senate. I read a good article in the WSJ this morning about how an excellent plan can be cobbled from the best parts of each of those. None of the plans grant citizenship, none of the plans include voting rights prior to citizenship, all of the plans require border security (but we know how that works), all of the plans require certain things: an admission of breaking the immigration law, a clean felony record, a fine, having been here for a "reasonable number of years", and to me the most important, no access to government financial assistance in any form. None of the plans require punishment for a person brought here prior to the age of 16.

Look, I know many of you would like to be able to just round up everyone who lacks documents and send them back home. I would be interested in how that could possibly work. We don´t know who they are. We don´t know where they are, or what they are doing. We haven´t the logistical means to gather up 12 million + people, process them and load them on buses.

The only logical means of getting control of what we are dealing with is to get everyone into a database within a specific period of time. With computer files, it can be determined who should be given a green card and for how long, who doesn´t qualify and should be deported, who has minor children born in the USA and what to be done about that. After the time for registering, if you´re not in the database, you´re out of here.

Back in the guest worker days, most Hispanics went back and forth, making no attempt to remain in the US.

Poster #10, please control your desire to patronize your fellow posters.

All your fastidious plans for databases assume we still have a will as a nation to fight this invasion. I fear not.

Why don´t we first require employers to justify the status of their employees. The IRS can do that just fine. And, speaking of "fine", you hammer the employers who don´t discharge the people who aren´t here legally. Once that element of self-deportation is exhausted, then we can count the residue with greater accuracy. Prosecute the residue who have fake SS numbers, and onto that residue and so forth. The numbers we are dealing with will become more tractable.

#11, I don´t know where you are geographically located. I am in Texas. Most of the low-skilled illegals are not going through the usual employer checks. They are paid in cash, so have no need for a social security number. If they do have to have a SS#, it is probably fake. So, you´re right, employers have to be responsible for the people they hire, but EVerify doesn´t cover the majority of the unskilled.

What is the matter with getting everyone into a database? I can´t see a downside.

I didn´t mean my suggestions to be patronizing. I assume you didn´t mean your response to be patronizing, either.

You don´t have to read very far between the lines of this article to see that the liberal Democrats have a huge political conflict of interest in dealing with this issue, as they know that historically about 85% of legalized aliens who went on to attain US voting rights eventually became Democrat voters. They know those percentages are not about to change much, as most illegal aliens are poor, generally uneducated, and when they can find work are low wage earners, and to survive here with their foreign born families will need to access all sorts of social welfare benefits and services that the Democrats are always attempting to expand, and that in fact they have a chance of even registering a higher percentage of those immigrants, because since the last amnesty the Democrats have created all sorts of ethnic and immigrant rights and community organizing groups throughout immigrant communities where the Republicans have little to no presence at all.

You can bet your boots that if the liberal Democrats ever thought there was even a slim chance that a majority of legalized aliens who eventually attain US voting rights would vote for conservative Republicans, that the liberal Democrats would be blocking any attempt to grant legalized aliens US citizenship, and would probably be calling for a big push to deport the illegal alien population group.

No previous amnesty has ever had a so-called "special pathway to citizenship" for illegal aliens. Giving illegal aliens US citizenship is all about expanding liberal Democrat demographic politics and the Republicans would have to be political morons to go along with that.

Vladimir Putin, the Russian President and autocrat, had a plan for the winter of 2014: to reassert his country’s power a generation after the collapse of the Soviet Union. He thought that he would achieve this by building an Olympic wonderland on the Black Sea for fifty-one billion dollars and putting on a dazzling television show. It turns out that he will finish the season in a more ruthless fashion, by invading a peninsula on the Black Sea and putting on quite a different show—a demonstration war that could splinter a sovereign country and turn very bloody, very quickly. WASHINGTON — The Environmental Protection Agency plans to unveil a major new regulation on Monday that forces oil refiners to strip out sulfur, a smog-forming pollutant linked to respiratory disease, from American gasoline blends, according to people familiar with the agency’s plans. When burned in gasoline, sulfur blocks pollution-control equipment in vehicle engines, which increases tailpipe emissions linked to lung disease, asthma, emphysema, chronic bronchitis, aggravated heart disease and premature births and deaths. Proponents of the rule say it will be President Obama’s most significant public health achievement in his second term, but opponents, chiefly oil refiners, say it is unnecessarily

Barack Obama is the second U.S. president in a row to badly misjudge Vladimir Putin. In 2001, after his first meeting with Putin, George W. Bush famously told Colin Powell, his secretary of state, that he thought the Russian leader was religious. “Powell, I looked into Putin’s eyes and I saw his soul.” To which Powell replied: “Mr. President, I looked into President Putin’s eyes and I saw the KGB.” Barack Obama hasn’t made that mistake. President Obama´s proclaimed strategy to "bypass Congress" — most conspicuously his broad rewriting of the Affordable Care Act — has given unusual prominence to a fairly arcane legal doctrine: standing. Standing is what is preventing a potential blizzard of litigation against the president´s unilateral decrees, and ironically, it´s a doctrine liberal jurists have long decried. To challenge the government in federal court, it isn´t enough to simply believe that the government´s conduct is illegal or even unconstitutional. Federal courts can hear only specific disputes about the law as applied to particular people. To be heard in court, a person must have

FOR FIVE YEARS, President Obama has led a foreign policy based more on how he thinks the world should operate than on reality. Other leaders, in this vision, would behave rationally and in the interest of their people and the world. Invasions, brute force, great-power games and shifting alliances — these were things of the past. Secretary of State John F. Kerry displayed this mindset on ABC’s “This Week” Sunday when he
