House GOP wants legal status but
no citizenship for illegal immigrants

Washington Times, by Stephen Dinan

Original Article

House Republican leaders have ruled out a special pathway to citizenship but do support granting some form of legal status and work permits to most illegal immigrants, according to the broad set of principles GOP leaders released Thursday that pushed the issue back to the political forefront. The brief document, circulated to House Republicans who are holding their annual policy retreat in Maryland, calls for giving young illegal immigrants — known as Dreamers — a chance at citizenship. Republican leaders also said they will insist on a “zero tolerance policy” for future illegal immigrants and will revamp the system to

There´s no difference between legal status and citizenship in the eyes of democrats if states can´t require voter ID. They want Latino votes, citizens or not...

The liberal Democrats define so-called "Dreamers" as being illegal aliens up to about 35 years of age. If the Republicans were to go along with US citizenship for them, probably about 85% of them would then register as new Democrat voters, and it would not be long before the Republicans figure out that they just committed long-term political suicide!

This is a big mistake and can only end up by all illegals being granted amnesty.

Dual status agreements never work.

Agents of change see them as just a temporary stop on the way to full acceptance.

As soon as illegals are legalized liberals will start crying about fairness and how right wing hate mongers treat innocent people as second class residents.

Liberals won´t let up until the illegals are granted full citizenship and the right to vote.

A drivers license = citizenship in the US. Having a license confers legal status domestically. When the illegals want to fly home for a holiday, then they show their Mexican or whatever passport. Domestic flights, voting, banking, doctors, health care only require a drivers license. Even on voting, Obama/Holder are working to suppress this requirement.

Republican elites are simply Democrats with better genetic structure.

#3 is correct. A recent example is how the gay activists "just" wanted benefit recognition through domestic partnerships. Remember, we were assured they weren´t interested in "marriage".

It is beyond obvious that the Republicans are much more comfortable being the junior partner in the Cartel Party, and have no interest in winning elections.

I can almost hear McConnell to Boehner, "Holy Carp! The national disgust with Obamacare may give us the majority in the Senate and then citizens will expect us to actually live up to our promises. Quick, push amnesty so we finally push away those pesky conservatives!"

I don´t disagree that cheap labor plays a hand in this but there´s other reasons also. Most immigrant workers show up on time,do their job and go home.

I´m sorry but i just have a lot of respect for people willing to work but done in an organized fashion. The gov´t shouldn´t be allowed to cherry pick who stays and who goes home based on who they´re likely to vote for.ICE,border agents DEA etc. want to do their job also but are being hamstrung by Obama´s lackadaisical attitude towards any rule of law.The rule of law to people like him is a form of white imperialism.

Boehner,Cantor,Ryan et al are flapping their gums but I suspect they haven´t brought anything to the floor until all the trial balloons are exhausted. They know they´re risking their base.

There is only two reasons the Republican Establishment are floating immigration reform:

1)Because their benefactors in big business want cheap labor to be able to avoid doing their responsibility in keeping the free market system alive and healthy. They want to undercut the system by suppressing wages with the false canard of "jobs Americans wont do". That idiotic statement is simply a lie. There are NO jobs Americans wont do. There are jobs Americans wont do if not paid a reasonable wage. In a free market system an employer would have to pay a higher wage to attract a worker to do a job no one is will to do for the wage currently offered. This is how Bob and Joe middle class was able to provide for a family. Wages rose per demand needed to attract someone to do the job. What the Chamber of Commerce and big business is trying to do is avoid paying Bob and Joe a higher wage as would be created by the free market system. They now want to import Hector and Jose to do a job at a unnaturally lower wage so they can undercut Bob and Joe middle class, who now have to scramble trying to find 2 jobs to support their families.

2)They have officially given up trying to court the conservative base because it no longer believes anything the Republican Establishment says. They have been lied to and burnt to many times and now have lost any faith in the current Republican Establishment. In effort to save themselves, the Republican Establishment is going all in on immigration reform hoping that Hispanic voters will become their version of a reliable source of unwavering votes like blacks have become for the democrat party.

And your still a Republican because.....?

The only "principle" the GOP is embracing here is that, in total agreement with the Democrats, current immigration laws - laws which if enforced! would have solved the problem long ago - should continue to not be enforced! Which, of course, indicates clearly GOP willingness to ensure that any news laws or "deals" are enforced. That is, nada. This would be bad kabuki, if it weren´t such a transparent surrender.

The GOP knows that immigration reform is at the bottom of most voters’ priority list. So why do they push it?

Because some entities who want it for cheap labor, also can promise to fill re-election coffers if a Congressman will play ball on immigration. Those representatives are in it for themselves and couldn’t care less what it all means for the Party or the country. If the big donors want amnesty and will donate handsomely to get it, the vote is theirs.

As Will Rogers said, we have the best politicians money can buy.

One thing is for sure, both political parties disparaging and undermining the immigration laws that were passed by Congress is not going to stop future mass uncontrolled illegal immigration, and is going to make it much harder politically to administer and maintain a viable borderline and immigration laws.

Without those borders and immigration laws the USA will slowly lose it´s sovereignty with foreign events and entities deciding the future demographic make-up of the USA. Those circumstances could easily result in the USA becoming just another third world country, as we all know that a snowball rolls down hill.

The Social Security Administration announced Monday that it will immediately cease efforts to collect on taxpayers’ debts to the government that are more than 10 years old. The action comes after The Washington Post reported that the government was seizing state and federal tax refunds that were on their way to about 400,000 Americans who had relatives who owed money to Social Security. In many cases, the people whose refunds were intercepted had never heard of any debt, and the debts dated as far back as the middle of the past century. “I have directed an immediate halt to further

Democrats have had a recurring problem in special elections this year: Their voters aren’t turning out. If a weak economy and continued Obamacare problems persist, the November elections could be a disaster for Democrats. Last week, Democrats lost two special elections they weren’t planning to. Arlington, Va., is a classic wealthy ObamaTown, filled with government workers and limousine liberals. Mitt Romney won only 29 percent of the vote in 2012. But last Tuesday, Democrats lost their first election for the five-member Arlington County Board in 15 years when John Vihstadt, a Republican running as an independent, won a vacancy on

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said little as federal agents seized and then released cattle last week from the Bundy ranch, but there is little doubt that the highly charged episode was threatening to become a political headache for the Nevada Democrat. On the defensive about their prospects in the midterm elections this fall, congressional Democrats have spent all of April savaging the Republican budget proposal, decrying the Koch brothers and championing a series of bills meant to ingratiate themselves to struggling middle-class voters. In promoting legislation that would extend unemployment benefits, increase the minimum wage and promote equal pay for women, the Democrats have declared themselves the party that will ensure a “fair shot” for all. Republicans, they insist, are the party of special interests. It has been a classic Washington messaging campaign for these partisan

Following the massacre of grammar-school children in Newtown, Conn., in December 2012, high-powered weapons have been used to kill innocent victims in more senseless public incidents. Those killings, however, are only a fragment of the total harm caused by the misuse of firearms. Each year, more than 30,000 people die in the United States in firearm-related incidents. Many of those deaths involve handguns. The adoption of rules that will lessen the number of those incidents should be a matter of primary concern to both federal and state legislators. Struggling homeowners across the country could face significant new tax bills if they receive mortgage relief from their banks, a prospect that threatens to slow the housing recovery and put further strain on distressed borrowers. The collapse of the housing market and plunging home prices left millions of people stuck owing more on their mortgages than their homes were worth. Some have worked with their banks to reduce the loan amount to avoid foreclosure or enable a sale. In 2007, Congress adopted a law that spared those homeowners from being taxed on the amount of the loan that was forgiven. But
