Scarlett Johansson Leaves Humanitarian
Group Over Israeli Controversy

Mediaite, by Evan McMurry

Original Article

Posted By:Drive, 1/30/2014 8:55:55 AM

Ghost World star Scarlett Johansson recently signed on as “global ambassador” for SodaStream, a move that includes a Super Bowl ad—but that has now ended her tenure with Oxfam International, a humanitarian group she has worked with for eight years. SodaStream has a large factory presence in the West Bank, while Oxfam boycotts trade from Israeli settlements. The Palestinian Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement quickly called on Oxfam to drop Johansson over the sponsorship, which Oxfam did on Thursday.

Washington Post, by Gail Sullivan    Original Article

On New Year’s Eve in 2011, software developer Robin Seggelmann was in front of his computer trying to work out some kinks in the security software most of the Internet uses. That’s when he made a mistake, which led to one of the worst bugs ever in the Internet known as “Heartbleed,” a flaw in the security infrastructure (OpenSSL) for a large swath of the Web. Nowadays, it’s unusual for someone to step up and take responsibility, But Seggelmann, a German developer, did just that.

I never wanted to be a pawn in President Obama’s absurd and irresponsible attempt to mandate, regulate and complicate the American health care system. Unfortunately, there wasn’t much of a choice. I was a casualty of Mr. Obama’s Big Lie. You know the one: “If you like your health care plan, you can keep your health care plan.” By the time my plan vanished, the only individual health insurance plans available had been captured by the tentacles of Obamacare. Signing up for insurance under Obamacare was harder than making sense of Donald Trump’s hair. It took more than 20 attempts over

NEW YORK — Millions of passwords, credit card numbers and other personal information may be at risk as a result of a major breakdown in Internet security revealed earlier this week. The damage caused by the "Heartbleed" bug is currently unknown. The security hole exists on a vast number of the Internet´s Web servers and went undetected for more than two years. While it´s conceivable that the flaw was never discovered by hackers, it´s nearly impossible to tell. There isn´t much that people can do to protect themselves until the affected websites implement a fix. Here are answers to some common questions about

Last week Hillary Clinton gave what appeared at first to be a rambling and unfocused answer when asked to name the proudest achievement of her four years as Secretary of State. The short version is, she doesn´t have one. But Clinton´s words make a lot more sense when seen not as a non-answer to a specific question but as an effort to lay the foundation and establish a theme for a presidential campaign. The occasion was her appearance on a panel discussion at the "Women in the World" meeting in Manhattan. It was pretty easy going; the moderator, New York

After all, she had been a Rhodes scholar, and her mother — who later became mayor of Hinton, population 2,600 — had driven her daughter’s interest in politics. So far that has not happened, but plenty of other things under two presidents have. Following the massacre of grammar-school children in Newtown, Conn., in December 2012, high-powered weapons have been used to kill innocent victims in more senseless public incidents. Those killings, however, are only a fragment of the total harm caused by the misuse of firearms. Each year, more than 30,000 people die in the United States in firearm-related incidents. Many of those deaths involve handguns. The adoption of rules that will lessen the number of those incidents should be a matter of primary concern to both federal and state legislators.
