The Silent SOTU

As it happens, I watched the end of the State of the Union Address (it really does need another name at this point, since it effectively has nothing to do with the actual state of the union) from the vantage point of an exercise bike at a gym largely patronized by emigres from Armenia and their American-born kids. On two screens, President Obama, swivel-necked, flap-jawed and jug-eared, commanded almost nobody’s attention, while the basketball game on the other screens drew a host of viewers on bikes and treadmills. And this, I reflected, was exactly as it should be. The people all around me were the folks who run the restaurants,

Comments:
No, more than half of the country does not believe the president has the best interests of the union at heart. A pity, but true.

Obama has hired "Action Jackson as the new point man on his agenda. How long before an imperial raise in the minimum wage which will cause another slew of lay offs. How long before the first court challenge if he does it. he can´t tell the private sector how much to pay private employees and this law should have been challenged a long time ago.To me,the real wage gap is being created by the fed were a handful of people and business are getting huge sums of corporate welfare.

The other big reason for the wage gap is manufacturing jobs being replaced by low pay service jobs. There´s no where for high school grads to go,let alone college.

Chicagoans are being urged to power down tonight in honor of Earth Hour, called one of the largest global environmental events. EarthHour calls on residents, businesses and governments to switch off non essential lights and other electronic items beginning at 8.30 pm to raise awareness about climate change. This year Chicago has been named the 2014 U.S. Earth Hour City Capital by the event's organizing group, the World Wildlife Fund. Chicago will receive a $30,000 grant from the conservation organization to kick-start a solar purchase program for residents, according to the WWF website.

Every American should rejoice over last week’s stunning 2-1 Second Amendment decision in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, which invalidated San Diego’s unconstitutionally restrictive infringements regarding the right to bear arms. The irony will be lost on no one, especially on the Left. Per the Los Angeles Times: In a significant victory for gun owners, a divided federal appeals court Thursday struck down California rules that permit counties to restrict as they see fit the right to carry a concealed weapon in public. The 2-1 ruling by a U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals panel would overturn restrictions on carrying concealed

There Ought To Be No Law

The First Amendment clearly states: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. But the World’s Greatest Deliberative Body apparently thinks otherwise: Journalists and bloggers who report news to the public will be protected from being forced to testify about their work under a media shield bill passed by a Senate committee Thursday. But the new legal protections will not extend to the controversial online website Wikileaks and others whose principal work involves disclosing “primary-source documents . . . without authorization.”

The spectacular flameout of President Obama’s foreign policy in the Middle East should be a teachable moment — not only for all Americans but most especially for the president himself. For probably the first time in his life someone is about to say no to him. And not just no, but hell, no.Unless he backs away from the upcoming votes in Congress — themselves now in doubt – regarding the use of force in Syria, Obama is likely to be dealt a humiliating political blow, and it will be interesting to see how he reacts to it.

Although not articulated until a few months later by, of all people, President Nixon in a televised address about Cambodia, that was the goal of Obama buddies Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn and other members of the Weather Underground during their juvenile but destructive temper tantrum known as the “Days of Rage.” Using the Vietnam War (practically a wholly owned subsidiary of the Democratic Party, having been started by JFK and vigorously but impotently prosecuted by Lyndon Johnson) as a pretext for their highly selective indignation, these revolutionaries manqué believed they could bring down the government of the United States

There hasn’t been much evidence of “global warming” for at least 15 years. If anything, “cooling” has kicked in as part of an eternal cycle that stretches back through history. But President Obama is not one to let the facts stand in the way of a beautiful theory. Especially when it rallies his restive liberal base.

The Senate — and the nation — should think long and hard before agreeing to President Obama’s choice of veteran spook John Brennan to head the Central Intelligence Agency. As I’ll explain below, the move would finalize the militarization of the agency — but that’s only the biggest problem. Brennan, 57, is a careerist who spent a quarter-century with the CIA and now serves as Obama’s top counter-terrorism adviser. In his agency days, he was an architect of “enhanced interrogation” techniques and overseas “rendition” prisons — history that put him under fire from left and right

Bush, the second-oldest son of former president George H. W. Bush and younger brother of George W. Bush, spoke at an event marking the 25th anniversary of his father´s presidency at the library and museum that bears the patriarch´s name. Why does Hillary Clinton hate America? That is the question that should be on everyone’s mind as she embarks on a worldwide tour to plug her forthcoming memoir. Check out this THE POLITICO article [emphasis mine]: Hillary Clinton discussed her work at the State Department, called for young women not to take criticisms personally and rapped the media for treating powerful women with a double standard at the kickoff of “Women in the World” in New York City Thursday night. Clinton’s appearance on a panel with International Monetary Fund Managing Director Christine Lagarde, moderated by New York Times columnist Tom Friedman, ran

Kathryn Riffenburg decided on a closed casket for her baby´s funeral. She didn´t want her family to see what whooping cough, her son´s first illness, had done to 9-week-old Brady Alcaide. The nearly forgotten disease, which has in recent years afflicted thousands of Americans, left Brady´s tiny body swollen and unrecognizable. So his mother dressed him in a white baptismal suit and hat and tucked him into a tiny white casket. Brady´s burial came just four weeks after his first laugh — inspired by her version of I´m a Little Teapot — and two weeks after his family learned that he had

In Dearborn, Mich., home to over 40,000 Americans of Arab descent, some Muslim parents have complained about flyers handed out at public schools advertising an Easter egg hunt at a local Presbyterian church. The Muslim parents assert that the flyers – emblazoned with the word “Eggstravaganza!” – violate the separation of church and state widely ascribed to the First Amendment’s Establishment Clause, reports the Detroit Free Press. Students at three Dearborn elementary schools received the flyers. A large number of Muslim students attend the schools. The “Eggstravaganza!” is scheduled to take place on April 12 event at Cherry Hill Presbyterian Church

When friends and family members gathered recently at the White House for a private celebration of Michelle Obama’s 50th birthday, one of the invited partygoers was a former paid FBI Mafia informant. That same man attended February’s state dinner in honor of French President Francois Hollande. He was seated with his girlfriend at a table adjacent to President Barack Obama, who is likely unaware that, according to federal agents, his guest once interacted with members of four of New York City’s five organized crime families. He even secretly taped some of those wiseguys using a briefcase that FBI technicians outfitted

Democrats are facing a senior problem that could get even worse this year. The party has traditionally had trouble with older voters, losing the group aged 65 and over by 21 points in 2010 — when Republicans picked up 63 seats — and by 12 points in the 2012 presidential race. Seniors are the GOP’s most reliable voting bloc in midterm years, turning out in higher numbers than Democratic base voters. A recent Gallup poll showed seniors have become even more Republican over the last two decades; in 2013, 48 percent considered themselves Republican. That spells trouble for Democrats, who are already facing

LONDON - Peaches Geldof, the wild-child second daughter of concert organizer Bob Geldof who worked as a model, a television presenter and a fashion writer and filled the pages of British tabloids with her late-night antics, has died at age 25. There was no immediate word on the cause of her death at her home in Wrotham, Kent, southeast England. Her father said in a statement Monday: "Peaches has died. We are beyond pain." "She was the wildest, funniest, cleverest, wittiest and the most bonkers of all of us," he said. "Writing 'was' destroys me afresh. What a beautiful child. How is this possible that we will not see her again? How is that bearable? We loved her and will cherish her forever."

The Democratic National Committee is furious by a conservative website’s ad campaign that depicts Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi clad in a bikini in a provocative pose with her tongue sticking out. The image of Pelosi, beneath one of California Gov. American public school students sick of the smaller portions and healthier offerings they get at lunch thanks to Michelle Obama´s anti-obesity initiatives are sounding off on social media. Just a month after school lunch participation saw the steepest drop on record following the implementation of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act, students tired of going home hungry are making sure the first lady knows why. ´I´ll never forgive Michelle Obama for this school lunch,´ tweeted one angry student.
