Rep. Steve King: Congress
needs to restrain Obama from
‘extraconstitutional behaviors’

Washington Times, by David Sherfinski

Rep. Steve King, Iowa Republican, chastised President Obama Tuesday for ignoring Congress on big-ticket items — for example, a new executive order to raise the minimum wage for new federal contract workers — saying lawmakers on Capitol Hill need to act to rein in the Executive Branch. “This Congress should lay out the violations that the president’s had, and there are many,” Mr. King said on CNN’s “New Day.” “He goes through the immigration piece, No Child Left Behind, welfare-to-work, many of those components — Obamacare itself is probably the clearest one. When the president extended the employer mandate for

Comments:
Rep. King is a lone voice in the wilderness. The Republicans have a lot of power by controlling the purse and they are too weak and spineless to wield this power.

Simple-cut funding Congressman. Tell him that each executive mandate costs him 20% budgetary cuts to one of his pet departments. Start with EPA, next Education, FDA, etc. Will see if we can get some extra cheese from Gov. Walker to strengthen some Republican spines.

Peter King has zero credibility. Zero. He´d actually rather restrain Cruz, Paul and Lee from their free speech rights than restrain Democrats from anything.

With King you always have to follow the money. If he´s complaining, then there´s something in it for him personally to do so.

The Obama administration is denying that the National Security Agency or any other part of the government knew about a flaw in the way that many websites send sensitive information, known as the Heartbleed bug, before it was discovered earlier this month. “Reports that NSA or any other part of the government were aware of the so-called Heartbleed vulnerability before April 2014 are wrong,” White House National Security Council spokeswoman Caitlin Hayden said in a statement released late Friday afternoon. The federal government, she said, was not aware of the recently identified vulnerability, one of the biggest Internet bugs affecting the basic

The government is putting its (big) foot down. No more junk food in schools. As Danica Lo of Epicurious writes: New rules for school food kick in this July -- and for kids going back to school in the fall, it´s sad sad news (okay, not really sad, but healthy healthy news). According to new regulations being instituted by the USDA, junk food is now totally verboten -- in school vending machines, stores, and lunchrooms. That means that fruits, veggies, whole grains, and dairy are good to go -- high-sodium, high-sugar, and high-fat foods are not. Rules, as we all know, exist

House and Senate Republicans have been mostly silent about the nomination of Sylvia Mathews Burwell to succeed Kathleen Sebelius as Health and Human Services secretary, but they will likely have a lot to say when her confirmation hearings begin in May. With Obamacare at the center of a protracted fight in Congress, Burwell, who would essentially be left in charge of the new law, is unlikely to win the same unanimous support from the Senate that she did when confirmed a year ago as the director of President Obama´s Office of Management and Budget. “This is not going to be another

Never let it be said that Barack Obama doesn’t reward loyalty. Loyalty to himself, of course. Within seconds of the announcement that HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius was resigning Thursday, news broke about who her replacement would be: Sylvia Burwell of OMB. Burwell is famous for something that she did last year. NBC News: A single person shut down the entire U.S. government for the first time in 17 years. Not a congressman, but an unelected woman named Sylvia Burwell who, as the relatively new director of the Office of Management and Budget, sent the email that initiated the process that has closed national parks,

The co-pilot of missing flight MH370 made a call from his mobile phone as the aircraft flew low over the west coast of Malaysia. Investigators have learned that the call was made from Fariq Abdul Hamid´s mobile phone as the Boeing 777 flew low near the island of Penang, on the north of Malaysia´s west coast. The New Straits Times reported today that it was understood the aircraft, with 239 people on board, was flying low enough for the nearest telecommunications tower to pick up Fariq´s signal. The son of the Nevada rancher locked in an increasingly tense land dispute with the federal government, says their cowboys managed to break a blockade and retrieve around 30 head of cattle. Federal agents swooped on Tuesday after Cliven Bundy, dubbed the last remaining rancher in southern Nevada, refused to remove his herd of 900 cows from land he claims has been in his family since 1870. The heavily-armed federal agents, equipped with eight helicopters and backed-up by snipers, surrounded the Bundy ranch after the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) attained a federal court order to confiscate the family´s herd. In fact, the reality of the dispute goes far underneath what is being talked about. The more appropriate source of the dispute is ground water as well as surface water -- this is a war over water. Following the massacre of grammar-school children in Newtown, Conn., in December 2012, high-powered weapons have been used to kill innocent victims in more senseless public incidents. Those killings, however, are only a fragment of the total harm caused by the misuse of firearms. Each year, more than 30,000 people die in the United States in firearm-related incidents. Many of those deaths involve handguns. The adoption of rules that will lessen the number of those incidents should be a matter of primary concern to both federal and state legislators. Legislatures are in a far better position than judges to assess the
