Republicans Will Support
Immigration Reform (Once the
Primary Threat Has Passed)

Atlantic Wire, by Philip Bump

Original Article

Only 20-some months after Latino voters helped propel President Obama back to the White House, Republican leaders will likely bring immigration reform proposals to a vote in the House this summer. Why wait? First, they have to get past the threat posed by their congressional primaries. This is a pretty remarkable commentary on the imbalance within the party. The Republicans´ very vocal, very energized far-right conservatives strongly oppose any measures meant to relax rules around immigration. The party´s quieter, more moderate majority is less fervent; in most cases, the party´s establishment recognizes the need to reach out to the Latino

Comments:
I have seen this scenario mentioned a few times now. If they do this it will be one of the most devious, malevolent moves they perform to really cause extreme turmoil in the party at a time when we should be completely united against the Democrats. The WSJ article requires a subscription.

Do we not understand the party establishment is not scared of conservatives? McCain, Hatch, and so many others who have betrayed us so many times have been in office for DECADES. Repeat - the RINOs believe that they can always deceive us into keeping them in office. It has worked very well. (Case in point-Lindsey Graham right now. He´s not worried but he´s mouthing conservatism and Reaganism as he approaches reelection.). Mrs. McCain, John´s Mom, TOLD us flat out what is going on. Vote out every one who will vote for immigration. No excuses.

If the Republicans offer US citizenship to illegal aliens who came here when they were minors before yesterday, they will also have to offer citizenship to illegal alien minors who gain entry to the USA after tomorrow. That means there are a lot of potential US citizens out there in foreign countries, as there are now 7 billion people in the world, and all the younger ones would have to do is get into the USA in the future to be offered citizenship. As a politician you really can´t do more then that to encourage more mass illegal immigration on into the future. Remember with amnesties like that the USA will have to accept both the good and the bad and will no longer be able to choose among them.

This is ridiculous. You guys are like kids sitting around a campfire trying to outscare each other. "Immigration reform" can fix some holes in the current law and do a lot of the things most of you have been yelling for. "Immigration reform" does not mean handing citizenship to anyone not already a citizen.

#11 Really? The day after amnesty is passed the Democrats lead by Chuck U Schumer and the msm will demand citizenship with voting rights. It would be unfair not to let them vote, it is a civil right for them to vote (to hell with the law) and all the other leftist drivel. The Republicans will be demonized if they don´t go along so they will cave. Presto the Democratic Party has 15-20 million new voters, Texas and Arizona turn blue, America becomes a one party country and the elite GOP and Rinos who voted for it will be sent packing by the very illegals it gave amnesty to.

the "holes in the current law" are not so much issues with the laws as written.
The problem is the consistent, dishonorable, and despicable refusal, not failure, but REFUSAL to uphold and honor those laws.
A dishonorable and despicable attitude and practice that includes senior elements of both major parties going back nearly 50 years.
We don´t need to revise the laws. We need to uphold, enforce, obey, and honor those laws. And to expect those in positions of public trust to do so, consistently.
The law says that if you wish to come here, you *ask first*, just as if someone came to your front door unbidden. That´s not only a matter of law, consistent across virtually all nations, it´s also basic manners. If you don´t understand that, then you´re not sort of person we want here anyway. And if you think you´re so superior to the peasants that you can choose to ignore the law, you are a creep and a felon and belong in jail yourself.
We are fast approaching the time for the end of a polite tea party gathering, and into the time for tar, feathers, and perhaps more. I do not like that, but this is a situation caused by the self-anointed rulers. King George found the hard way that we are not made like that and perhaps it is time to refresh some memories.
All illegals out. Now. And imprison their enablers, no matter who.

In other words, RINOs don´t give a damn about our national interest any more than Democrats do.

John McCain and his vile 2007 amnesty efforts (which were clearly against the interests of the American people) convinced me it was time to register as an independent. I suspect I am not alone. It was a great relief to leave a party so eager to sell out middle class Americans.

The funny thing about all this is that it has been the liberal Democrats from about 1965 who have been designing America´s immigration laws to fail, and during that time period for the most part the Republicans have been going along to get along with the liberal Democrats, as long as any new immigration laws that the Democrats designed was full of loopholes that provided a massive amount of cheap foreign labor and could not be effectively enforced.

Now the liberal Democrats are again claiming that the immigration laws that they designed are broken, are blaming the Republicans, and are demanding another massive amnesty for illegal aliens with the intention of eventually flipping the vast majority of the legalized aliens into new, mostly socialist oriented Democrat voters. From some accounts it appears that the Republicans are again getting ready to go along to get along with the liberal Democrats, and the Republicans wonder why conservative American are up in arms with a good many bailing out of the Republican Party and becoming independent voters.

The potential new demographic voter numbers as the result of such an amnesty have now become so massive that if the liberal Democrats accomplish their mission to transform the illegal alien population into mostly Democrat voters in the years ahead that it will be impossible for the Republicans to ever again win presidential elections, or keep a lot of the seats that they now hold in the Congress. All the Democrats have to do is flip a few key states like Arizona, Florida, and Texas into the solid Democrat column, just like they did in California, and it will be long-term political suicide for the Republicans. If you know basic arithmetic you can easily figure that out.

As soon as the Republican Establishment cowards avoid the immigration issue in the primary, they will within the month announce immigration reform to pander to Latino´s for the upcoming election. That´s the other reason they want to push back the convention. They are praying that Latino´s will come running into their open arms and replace the conservative base they know are leaving them in droves.

Is it enough? Obama imposes sanctions

WASHINGTON – Faced with calls for a swift and stern reaction to Russia´s threatened annexation of Crimea, President Obama wielded his executive pen Monday morning, slapping seven in Vladimir Putin´s inner circle -- but not the Russian president himself -- with sanctions freezing their U.S. assets. But almost immediately, some criticized Obama´s response as not being enough to change Putin´s course. With Crimea voting Sunday to break off from Ukraine, Russia is poised to potentially annex the disputed peninsula -- and freezing U.S. assets of Putin cronies and barring them from traveling to the U.S. may have limited effect. Thanks to Obamacare, Democrats just lost a special election in a Florida House district that President Obama won in 2012. So what do you think vulnerable Democrats in states and districts Obama lost in 2012 are thinking today? The problem is Democrats can’t run from Obama or Obamacare. Yes, the president is electoral kryptonite in 2014. But Democrats are caught in the Obama trap — unable to either embrace or repudiate their unpopular president and his unpopular health law. This is precisely the position vulnerable Republicans were in during the 2006 midterm elections, when Democrats retook control of Congress thanks to George W. Bush’s sinking poll numbers. Like

By now it’s settled on most people, including Democrats, that the loss of Alex Sink to David Jolly in Florida’s 13th Congressional District was, in the words of the New York Times, “devastating” to Democrats.
