Don’t Do It

The House Republican leadership has been confronted by devilishly difficult tactical choices over the years. But what to do on the issue of immigration right now isn’t one of them. The correct course is easy and eminently achievable: Do nothing. The old Reagan catchphrase calling for non-action — don’t just do something, stand there — has never been more apt. Yet the House leadership is about to roll out a set of immigration principles reportedly including an amnesty for illegal aliens, and presumably will follow up with a push to pass them through the House. This is legislative strategy as

Comments:
Amen to that! "The other prudential reason not to act is that President Obama obviously can’t be trusted." Truer words were never spoken. For Boehner to play right into the hands of the Democrats is pure insanity.

Great nations have always produced strong willed and visionary leaders during periods of stress and turmoil; which is the primary reason they remain great. Instead we have the likes of Boehner, a feckless and timid weakling; devoid of grit, resolve and a hapless time server. Ordinary voters, in their collective wisdom, have taken the measure of this immigration fandango and rejected it. Yet this embarrassment persists in pushing it. And the reason you vote R is.....???

The Republicans would have to be nuts to facilitate what would be in the end a massive liberal Democrat amnesty for up to 20 million illegal aliens along with all their close foreign family members who under the Democrat plan would be allowed into the USA in unlimited numbers.

The Democrat amnesty would also fund the liberal Democrat aligned community organizing groups and the very liberal ethnic and immigrant rights groups to in effect chaperone all those aliens through a Democrat designed "Americanization" process to where upwards of 85% would eventually become Democrat voters. With such a massive influx of New Democrat voters in a decade the Republicans would have no chance to win future national elections or many of the seats that they now hold in Congress.

This editorial is correct, the Republicans have a good chance to win the Senate in the November election and they should wait until after that to fashion new immigration reform legislation that will not have the great potential to change the voter demographics by in-sourcing a massive influx of foreign born new voters and thus the future political balance of the USA.

I take a Corinthian Leather back seat to no one in my commitment to small goobermint, free market principles.....but...in this matter there is a perverse incentive for labor intensive businesses to lobby for more cheap, foreign labor.

The notion of free competition would tend to suggest that cross-border labor or products would be just fine...(See:Canada) but....when your ´partner´ is a third world hell hole, then everything changes.

North Carolina Democrat Verla Insko got some chuckles from some of her colleagues in the state Senate during legislative hearings on Obamacare after she asked about the percentage of prostate cancer patients that were women. "What percent of the prostate cancer patients are women?" Insko, a state representative from Chapel Hill, asked Duke University research scholar Chris Conover during the hearing in Raleigh on Tuesday. "I have no idea," Conover replied, as people in the room began laughing. "I would guess zero," he added. "But I don´t know that for sure." Insko´s question was captured by an America Rising tracker

Michael Rothman hyped Johnny Weir "amazing style and eye-catching outfits" in a Thursday item for ABCNews.com about the openly-homosexual figure skater´s "split from his husband." Rothman labeled Weir "the man who stole the show at the Sochi Olympics," after the former Olympian provided on-air commentary in his "flamboyant outfits," including "black leggings...ankle-high boots" and even a tiara. Rothman´s short write-up included Weir´s Tweets on his break-up with Victor Voronov: "It is with great sadness that I announce that my husband and I are no longer together. President Obama said in a Norwuz greeting released Wednesday that the Iranian regime’s selection of a new president last year was in fact an election in which “the Iranian people” were allowed to choose a new leader. “Last year, you—the Iranian people—made your voice heard when you elected Dr. Hassan Rouhani as your new president.” Obama said Rouhani “was elected with your strong support.” Shortly after the regime’s selection of Rouhani, the Wall Street Journal’s Sohrab Ahmari described the process for subverting democratic choice in Iranian elections: Iran’s presidential campaign season kicked off last month when an unelected body of 12 Islamic jurists

Some applicants to the New York health insurance exchange saw their email addresses revealed this week in a message reminding them of a March 31 enrollment deadline. The automated email sent by the exchange on Monday went to New York residents who completed an online application process but hadn’t yet enrolled in insurance coverage. The message didn’t make use of the blind carbon copy feature, allowing recipients of the email to see the addresses of others who received it. It wasn’t clear Wednesday how widespread the apparent privacy breach was. The New York Department of Health tried to downplay things

Former White House advisor and current MSNBC contributor David Axelrod appeared on Now with Alex Wagner on Thursday where he insisted that the Affordable Care Act will be a boon for Democratic incumbents running for reelection in November. He added that he believes too many incumbent Democrats have accepted the “myth” that the ACA is unpopular, and he advocated that they “embrace the very good elements” of the ACA when they run for reelection. Alex Wagner and Axelrod both agreed that Democrats have done a poor job of attacking Republicans for advocating what they said was the health care delivery system

Rush Limbaugh is officially a children’s book author. Late last year he released Rush Revere and the Brave Pilgrims, an American history book with elements of time travel, and Limbaugh was actually nominated for Author of the Year by the Children’s Book Council. You can imagine how well people took that. A few liberal sites picked up on the news last week, and the group got a few negative reactions on Facebook. (Snip) So, of course, earlier this week, the CBC had to put out a statement explaining that they didn’t actively choose to put Limbaugh on the list. The Author of the

Opposition to President Obama´s healthcare law is close to its all-time high as the reform reaches its fourth birthday. A new survey by the Pew Research Center found that 53 percent disapprove of ObamaCare, compared with 41 percent who approve. Disapproval has not markedly risen over the last six months as the rollout encountered its most severe technical and policy problems. But the consistency of public opposition to healthcare reform is creating challenges for the White House and Democrats as they seek to keep the Senate in November. The survey offers insight into the public´s opinion of ObamaCare, just as

President Obama pushed back on criticism of his recent appearance with comedian Zach Galifianakis to promote the Affordable Care Act, noting that President Lincoln "loved telling the occasional bawdy joke." The president´s remarks, during an interview with ESPN Radio´s Colin Cowherd that aired Thursday, were an indirect jab at Fox News host Bill O´Reilly, who argued during a segment of his show earlier this month that the 16th president would never have agreed to such an appearance. As the service, like other branches of the military, makes do with less, drug smugglers are increasingly turning to the high seas -- and challenging the Coast Guard´s already strained resources. Officials tell Fox News that drug smugglers are moving some of their operations away from the U.S.-Mexico land border and out into the ocean where it´s easier to avoid law enforcement. And for U.S. patrollers, that theater is becoming harder and harder to defend. "As the Department of Homeland Security became more effective at stopping smuggling across

President Obama’s reliance on the bully pulpit to bump up ObamaCare’s enrollment and hammer Republicans in an election year is facing a serious challenge with the crisis in Ukraine.
