Obama’s Plan to Use Executive
Action Triggers Criticism

Bloomberg, by David Lerman & Gopal Ratnam

Republican lawmakers said President Barack Obama risks antagonizing an already polarized Congress by threatening to use executive authority to make good on the policy agenda he will outline in his State of the Union address. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky said Obama is wrong to think he can bypass lawmakers if they don’t make legislative progress this year. “Ronald Reagan didn’t think that and Bill Clinton didn’t think that,” McConnell said yesterday on Fox’s “Fox News Sunday” program. “Frequently, times of divided government are quite good times in terms of achieving things for the American people.” McConnell said Obama erred since

My optimistic side is hoping the Republicans are sitting on their hands to give Obama enough rope to hang himself.
My pessimistic side is not so sure.

"Triggers criticism"? It ought to trigger the republicans to rise up off their fat butts and impeach the SOB! Triggers criticism!!! That´s the kind of thing that happens when boyfriend gets my daughter home at half an hour past curfew. A lawless president deserves far worse.

#3 Yeah, THATS the sad part isnt it. The plan to use executive action SHOULD trigger howls of rage and serious action by Congress to remind the punk that he is not king, that NO man is king in the U.S....but we´re not seeing it, so it emboldens the obamination and the left.

Congress should be filing suit after suit against the E. O.s. They are not LAWs written by Congress as required. They let this dope smoking, skinny jugeared, illegal W.H. squatter do anything he wants and then whine about it. Yes, McConnell as well as Boehner should have been "leaders" against obama´s illegal actions.
They certified him the first go around knowing about his BC and they are just as complicit as Pelosi in allowing him to be the W.H. resident boot shiner.

White House’s phony wage

I’m betting the White House staffer who thought up the equal pay initiative is getting some fairly icy looks and snippy calls from Democrats. This has to be the worst idea since a staffer sent Air Force One’s backup plane to fly low over Manhattan. But at least the jet didn’t cause grief to fellow Democrats around the country. Day 2 of the president’s equal pay calamity continued today. A few highlights: The Post’s Nia-Malika Henderson catches the White House in its time warp, citing an e-mail in which working women bear an uncanny resemblance to Betty Draper: She The

NY Times Corrects Serious Error About
McConnell ‘Bizarre Obsession’ Quote
Mediaite, by Josh Feldman    Original Article

The New York Times reported this week that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell called gender pay equity a “bizarre obsession” of the left. The quote was picked up by a number of sites, including the Daily Kos, Talking Points Memo, The Huffington Post, and ThinkProgress. But as it turns out, that was not what McConnell made the comment about a “bizarre obsession” in reference to. McConnell’s comments on the Senate floor were meant to attack Democrats and President Obama for not being serious about jobs and the economy, referring to the liberal attacks on the Koch brothers. The Times ended up

On March 20, the Washington Post published an article by Steven Mufson and Julie Eilperin, the import of which was that Koch Industries is the driving force behind the Keystone Pipeline. The article, based entirely on a six-month-old report by a far-left group called the International Forum on Globalization that I demolished last October, was headlined, “The biggest lease holder in Canada’s oil sands isn’t Exxon Mobil or Chevron. It’s the Koch brothers.” The piece’s point was summarized succinctly in a quote by a spokesman for IFG: “IFG’s intention is to demonstrate the Koch-Keystone connection.” I critiqued the Post story

The April 29th deadline has not yet been reached, but it may be said with confidence that the initiative by Secretary of State John Kerry to revive the ‘peace process’ between Israelis and Palestinians has already reached its final destination: failure. The failure of this initiative was obvious from the beginning. To everyone except, apparently, Kerry himself. This reality lent an element of low farce to the entire proceedings. By now, it should really be obvious to any serious observer that there is no chance that the Israeli-Palestinian negotiating process will produce a comprehensive peace between the two sides. A caveat right off the bat: RAND’s estimate only runs through March 28 whereas the actual deadline for signing up was March 31st. Given the crush of traffic on Healthcare.gov in late March, many more people could have signed up over those last three days than were captured by these numbers. On the other hand, the White House was claiming six million sign-ups as of March 27. There’s no way to reconcile that with RAND’s data. One of them is wrong. Maybe both, in fact. MOKPO, South Korea -- The aroma of one of South Korea´s most popular delicacies is regularly compared to rotting garbage and filthy bathrooms. And that´s by fans. The unusual dish is typically made by taking dozens of fresh skate, a cartilage-rich fish that looks like a stingray, stacking them up in a walk-in refrigerator and waiting. Up to a month in some cases. "You know when it´s done by the smell," said Kang Han-joo, co-owner of a seafood store in the bustling fish market of Mokpo, a port city on the southwestern tip of the Korean Peninsula, a region that´s considered the

A White House adviser had to walk back the oft-repeated myth that women make 77 cents on the dollar that men make after being questioned about the figure during a conference call Monday. While detailing executive actions President Obama plans to take Tuesday regarding equal pay for women, Betsey Stevenson, a member of the White House Council of Economic Advisers, said very defiantly that despite women contributing 44 percent of their household incomes, they continue to make less than men. Obama has declared Tuesday "Equal Pay Day" to highlight his administration´s focus on that issue. “They’re stuck at 77 cents on the

Morgan Stanley’s healthcare analysts conducted the proprietary survey of 148 brokers. The April survey shows the largest acceleration in small and individual group rates (for renewing health plans) in any of the 12 prior quarterly periods when the regular analysis has been conducted. The average increases for the present quarter are in excess of 11% in the small group market and 12% in the individual market, where consumers purchase

Paralyzed Patients Move Again

For people who become paralyzed after a spinal cord injury, the condition is usually permanent, but a new study suggests that zapping the spine with electricity during physical training could help paralyzed patients regain movement. Researchers applied electrical stimulation to the spines of four people who had been paralyzed for more than two years. All four patients were able to flex their toes, ankles and knees again, and their movements improved further with physical rehabilitation, the research showed. If proven effective in more people, the stimulation therapy could ultimately change the prognosis for people living with paralysis, researchers say.

Last week, continuing the sometimes catty intraparty feud between Republican hawks and GOPers skeptical of foreign intervention, former Vice President Dick Cheney took a shot at Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.). But Paul is not likely to be fazed by criticism from Cheney, for several years ago the Kentucky senator was pushing the conspiratorial notion that the former VP exploited the horrific 9/11 attacks to lead the nation into war in Iraq in order to benefit Halliburton, the enormous military contractor where Cheney had once been CEO. It will be weeks before the final results of Afghanistan’s presidential election, held Saturday, are announced. And the winner won’t take office until June. Nevertheless, the voting, the third of its kind since the fall of the Taliban in 2001, has already provided a new and exciting political snapshot of a country emerging from four decades of turmoil. The first feature of this snapshot is that a majority of Afghans have adopted elections as the best means of choosing and changing governments. How does the Republican Party establishment choose its presidential candidate? Typically, constitutionalists accuse their establishment rivals of being moderate, risk-averse, stubborn old fools who lack faith in conservative principles. This is a soothing interpretation, as it begins from the hypothesis that the contest between conservatives and the GOP elite is a family feud. But there is another hypothesis -- less soothing, but, at least from an outsider´s bird´s-eye view, more reconcilable with the facts. This hypothesis is that America has reached a stage of progressive soft despotism in which the only important family feud in national politics is between the fundamentally

My first published column was in a local paper opposing the Equal Rights Amendment for the same reasons that Phyllis Schlafly, a conservative lawyer, campaigned on. As ambiguously written, the ERA, would eliminate the men-only draft requirement, repeal protective laws like sexual assault and eliminate the tendency for mothers to obtain custody over their children in divorce cases. Ironically, one of the arguments that helped sink the amendment from ratification was the fear that single-sex bathrooms would no longer be permitted. In addition, opponents of the amendment also warned that it would lead to abortion on demand and same-sex marriages.
