Sandy aid to Hoboken on par

TRENTON, N.J.- The city whose Democratic mayor said GOP Gov. Chris Christie´s administration tied Superstorm Sandy aid to her support for a real estate project has, so far, received a level of aid from state-run programs that is similar to what other towns got, a review of grant data shows. Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer is no longer discussing her allegations that New Jersey´s second-largest city has been shortchanged on Sandy funds, that its aid is being held "hostage" as political leverage or that she feared further retribution in the next round of funding. But her spokesman, Juan Melli, said the

This proves Christi is in big trouble. This mayor demands political justice (more than her share).

She is a liar. Hoboken is completely recovered and recently added bike lanes to the already too narrow streets.....which by the way are bike free due to double parked cars etx.

I don´t live on the coast, but we´ve had flood insurance since we built this house in 1973. At the foot of our pasture is a small creek which becomes a raging torrent in a big rain. So far, only a bit of fence periodically washes away, but as development upstream continues, the creek is further challenged in a major rainfall. If your residence is in a flood plain, whether it´s a ten year or a hundred year, get flood insurance.

Mudslide survivor: ´I did not let

Associated Press, by Staff    Original Article

SEATTLE- Amanda Skorjanc was watching videos with her infant son when the lights in her home started to flicker and shake. She looked outside and saw a terrifying sight: a massive mudslide crashing down the hillside, and nearby houses "exploding" from its force. A neighbor´s chimney was barreling toward her door, so Skorjanc gripped her son tightly and turned away. "I held onto that baby like it was the only purpose that I had," she said. "I did not let that baby go for one second." When it was over, the powerful river of mud and debris had laid waste

Although the news media and Hollywood relish telling stories about horrific crimes and serial killers, they are strangely silent about Dr. Kermit Gosnell, an abortionist who killed living, viable babies by snipping their spinal cords with scissors, and who is “America’s most prolific serial killer,” said actor Kevin Sorbo and his wife Sam Jenkins in a video to promote funding for a movie about Gosnell. “Kermit Gosnell is America’s most prolific serial killer,” says Kevin Sorbo, who starred in the TV series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. “For more than three decades he was an abortion doctor in Philadelphia, where he

The House on Wednesday handily rejected a GOP budget alternative based on President Obama´s 2015 spending blueprint. It was defeated 2-413, following a pattern seen in recent years in House votes to overwhelmingly reject Obama´s budget proposals. Today´s vote is just slightly better than the unanimous vote against Obama´s budget in 2012. The two "yes" votes came from Reps. Marcy Kaptur (D-Ohio) and Jim Moran (D-Va.), who is retiring. Rep. Mick Mulvaney (R-S.C.) offered a budget alternative based on Obama´s budget plan as a substitute amendment to the House GOP budget. Mulvaney made this move as a way to force

A House committee voted Wednesday to formally ask the Justice Department to consider criminal prosecution against ex-IRS official Lois Lerner, the figure at the center of the political targeting scandal. The House Ways and Means Committee voted 23-14 to send the criminal referral. The vote marked an escalation in Republicans´ push to confront Lerner over her role in the agency´s controversial practice of singling out conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status for extra scrutiny. On another front, a separate committee will vote Thursday on whether to hold her in contempt of Congress for twice refusing to testify on the scandal.

The Medicare program is the source of a small fortune for many U.S. doctors, according to a trove of government records that reveal unprecedented details about physician billing practices nationwide. The government insurance program for older people paid nearly 4,000 physicians in excess of $1 million each in 2012, according to the new data. Those figures do not include what the doctors billed private insurance firms. The release of the information gives the public access for the first time to the billing practices of individual doctors nationwide. Consumer groups and news outlets have pressured Medicare to release the data for

In a contentious open-to-the-public hearing that lasted only few minutes, the House Ways and Means Committee voted this morning to immediately go into a closed session to discuss a letter proposed by the committee’s majority to refer former Internal Revenue Service official Lois Lerner to the Justice Department for possible criminal prosecution. When Ranking Member Sander Levin (D.-Mich.), seeking to make a point of order, repeatedly interrupted Chairman Dave Camp’s (R.-Mich.) attempt to start a roll-call vote intended to take the committee into closed session, Camp told him: “Just chill out. He was the frontrunner in the 2012 campaign before that debate when he could not recall the names of all the federal agencies he wanted to eliminate completely (three at the time, but maybe he should consider doubling or tripling it this go round). A good deal of his forgetfulness, I am certain, was attributable to Perry’s then recent

A caveat right off the bat: RAND’s estimate only runs through March 28 whereas the actual deadline for signing up was March 31st. Given the crush of traffic on Healthcare.gov in late March, many more people could have signed up over those last three days than were captured by these numbers. On the other hand, the White House was claiming six million sign-ups as of March 27. There’s no way to reconcile that with RAND’s data. One of them is wrong. Maybe both, in fact. There’s a big spike in Medicaid, just as everyone expected. There’s a less big but

How does the Republican Party establishment choose its presidential candidate? Typically, constitutionalists accuse their establishment rivals of being moderate, risk-averse, stubborn old fools who lack faith in conservative principles. This is a soothing interpretation, as it begins from the hypothesis that the contest between conservatives and the GOP elite is a family feud. But there is another hypothesis -- less soothing, but, at least from an outsider´s bird´s-eye view, more reconcilable with the facts. This hypothesis is that America has reached a stage of progressive soft despotism in which the only important family feud in national politics is between the fundamentally

As the House prepares for several key votes on former Internal Revenue Service employee Lois G. Lerner and potential legal action, analysts say she and her attorney have mishandled their case by picking and choosing when they want to talk, and to whom they are willing to talk. Ms. Lerner faces a vote in the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee on Thursday that could begin the process of accusing her of contempt of Congress. The Ways and Means Committee announced that it will hold a vote Wednesday on whether to officially accuse Ms. Lerner of breaking the law by

My first published column was in a local paper opposing the Equal Rights Amendment for the same reasons that Phyllis Schlafly, a conservative lawyer, campaigned on. As ambiguously written, the ERA, would eliminate the men-only draft requirement, repeal protective laws like sexual assault and eliminate the tendency for mothers to obtain custody over their children in divorce cases. Ironically, one of the arguments that helped sink the amendment from ratification was the fear that single-sex bathrooms would no longer be permitted. In addition, opponents of the amendment also warned that it would lead to abortion on demand and same-sex marriages.
