Newspaper chain plans ´state-by-

A national newspaper chain with nearly 100 publications and 1.6 million readers is considering building “state-by-state databases” on concealed weapons permit holders, according to an internal e-mail. The plan, laid out in an email from a top editor at North Carolina-based Civitas Media, could be similar to a controversial project a New York state newspaper carried out in 2012 which included an online map that identified gun owners in two counties by name and address. Civitas´ database project was detailed the plan in a Jan. 19 e-mail to newsrooms in 11 states, including Ohio, Illinois and Pennsylvania. The newest project

Newspapers used to keep government in check... now they are tools of the tyrannical government to keep citizens in check.

FTA: Civitas Media, according to its website, employs more than 1,400 people...

IIRC, the NY newspaper halted this caper when some group set up a website showing where all the newspaper staff lived.

We know what to do...

Given that firearms are often targets for theft in anticipation of other, more serious crimes, publishing such a list is, at a minimum, negligent.

Suppose, for example, a newspaper were to publish a list of who owned what jewelry, and whether or not they kept it at home.

From their Website:

Civitas Media never had any plans or intentions of publishing in print or online lists of holders of “conceal and carry” permits. Nor will Civitas Media develop databases of permit holders. A poorly crafted internal memo meant to highlight editorial discussions and planning incorrectly indicated that such a database was being planned; it has been considered and rejected.

If they feel entitled to do this because CCW licenses are in the public record, couldn´t the Westboro Baptist Church compile and publish a database of the names and addresses of all same-sex couples who get marriage licenses? That´s also a matter of public record.

FTA: National Rifle Association spokesman Andrew Arulanandam said the project serves no journalistic purpose.

That´s because they´re not journalists - they´re agenda-driven propaganda ministers.

Since this Lawitz dirtbag seems so intent on publishing information on private citizens, I would suggest that his private information can be published as well. If anything unseemly were to happen to him... well, I guess the publisher of HIS information can always claim it was done under FOIA and the 1st Amendment.
What a disgusting tool he is.

Get a list of all their papers. Then, start a subscription cancelation project. These swine need subscriptions - especially in more well-to-do zip codes - to get advertisers. No advertisers. No papers. No jobs for propagandists.

This Communist Left --in this case, a newspaper chain, never give a thought to unintended consequences.

If I wasn´t a CCP holder, I would feel as if this newspaper chain was making me a target for criminals. If something bad happened at my residence, I might be able to make that case to a jury when I sued the newspaper chain. I would at least be inclined to try.

On the flip side, the criminal is being given a false sense of security if he´s depending on a published list of CCP holders, and he believes that just because a name and address doesn´t show up on the list, the household is unarmed --in which case there could be some pain and suffering involved for the criminal, if not outright death.

How about a database of all households that are "gun free"? Such a list might be invaluable to burglars and such, who prefer to practice their trade with less fear of being ventilated.

Criminals would use this database to decide who to victimize. Knowing that a household owned guns would persuade them to to choose other people as their targets.

Step 1, of course, was Cuomo´s anti-conservative rant demanding they be driven out of New York state, with backup from Comrade deblasio.

I wonder when Democrats will demand conservatives wear an identifying symbol on all their clothes, and when their property will be subject to forfeiture for no reason?

Here, in Missouri, the DMV was getting fast and loose with CC info. The County Sheriffs stepped in and the legislature passed a law prohibiting any entity other than law enforcement access to that info. Now the individual county sheriffs process the ID cards and info, not the DMV.
By the way our local paper is a Civitas property and I sent the article to the publisher and editor with

Other than being far and away the best film yet to come out of the ho-hum Marvel Universe, "Captain America: Winter Soldier" is a blatant $175 million "screw you" to Barack Obama´s surveillance state, and especially the President´s dishonesty and rationale surrounding it. Obama might have destroyed America´s economic recovery and healthcare system, but we can at least thank him for inspiring a 4.5 star superhero movie. With the exception of the first "Iron Man," Marvel´s heavy mythology, even heavier CGI, and over-reliance on flashy Euro-trash villains disguised as non-humans has left me cold.
